Chapter 50: It Has Nothing to Do with Him
To prevent the news from spreading about Ji Xueli’s car accident, Han Chen only told the director and a few others. The director then announced to the public that Ji Xueli had taken a leave of absence due to personal matters and her scenes would be postponed.
Fortunately, Ji Xueli’s injuries weren’t severe, so she didn’t need an extended recovery period.
Ji Xueli didn’t understand what her mother was thinking. Despite everything, her mother was still not giving up and kept bringing different supplements into her room, claiming that they were personally sent by Ji Yan Zhou.
In the end, she gave the supplements to Duan Qingyu, and Duan Qingyu fed them all to the dog in the hospital…
“Who’s here?” Ji Xueli asked as she chewed on an apple, noticing Duan Qingyu chatting with someone in the chat room. She turned to Zhen Zhang for an answer.
“Mr. Duan,” Zhen Zhang replied.
“Mr. Duan Qingyu’s father?” Ji Xueli frowned. She hadn’t seen him earlier, so what was he here for now?
“Yes.”
“Is it because of Duan Haohong?” she asked.
Zhen Zhang glanced at her and nodded. He thought that this Ji family young lady wasn’t as clueless as the rumors made her out to be.
Ji Xueli’s thoughts started to shift. According to the novel, this scumbag of a father might have come to prevent Duan Qingyu from pursuing the matter with Duan Youcheng.
“You’ve already found the evidence regarding Auntie and Youcheng. It’s clear that someone framed him, and I’ve already controlled the person responsible,” Duan Haohong’s deep voice echoed in the room.
Duan Qingyu leaned back on the sofa, lightly chuckling, as if he had just heard a joke. “Framed… that kind of clumsy excuse? I think you’re probably the only one who believes it.”
“You… well, the mastermind has already been found. How do you want to deal with it?” Duan Haohong said, trying to stay calm but clearly holding back his anger.
“How to deal with it? That’s for me to decide,” Duan Qingyu said coldly, not even glancing at the man in front of him.
“This has nothing to do with your younger brother. Don’t drag him into it…” Duan Haohong began, but Duan Qingyu’s sharp tone interrupted him.
“I don’t have a younger brother,” Duan Qingyu said with a chilling voice, warning him.
Duan Haohong was momentarily stunned by his response. He feigned seriousness. “Then what do you want?”
“You said it yourself, I’m free to deal with it however I want.”
“Fine, as long as you don’t drag Youcheng and your Auntie into it, I’ll agree to whatever you decide,” Duan Haohong finally relented.
“Whether it’s related or not, that’s for me to decide,” Duan Qingyu said, lazily stretching out his long legs, giving off the impression that he wasn’t even really listening to the man’s words.
“Duan Qingyu! I’m your father! The Duan family is still under my control!” Duan Haohong shouted in anger.
Ji Xueli, who had been listening by the door, heard the commotion and asked, “Why are they arguing again…?”
Zhen Zhang watched her eavesdrop in silence, but to his surprise, she suddenly pushed the door open and entered. He widened his eyes in shock. “Miss Ji…”
“Uncle Duan, I’m also a victim,” Ji Xueli said seriously as she walked in and addressed Duan Haohong.
Zhen Zhang followed behind, seeing that he couldn’t stop her, and he could only give an apologetic look toward Duan Qingyu as he left the room.
Duan Qingyu glanced at Ji Xueli, then waved his hand dismissively to Zhen Zhang, signaling for him to leave, which he did, closing the door behind him.
Duan Haohong looked at the sudden appearance of Ji Xueli, her face somewhat familiar. After a while, he spoke up, “Xueli? You’re back from abroad.”
“Yes, Uncle Duan. I was also in the car when Duan Qingyu had the accident,” Ji Xueli smiled as she replied.
Duan Qingyu looked at her, feeling like she wasn’t hiding anything but wasn’t sure why he felt uneasy.
Duan Haohong’s expression darkened slightly. He hadn’t expected Ji Xueli to be involved, which meant the Ji family would also be implicated…
Though the Duan family was the leader among the four major families, the other three were not to be underestimated, especially since the Ji family was moving closer to an alliance with the Ji family.
“So, I should have a say in how this is handled too, right?” Ji Xueli asked.
So that was her angle, Duan Qingyu thought, a subtle smile tugging at the corner of his lips, not revealing what he knew.
“Naturally, Xueli. How’s your health?” Duan Haohong replied with a smile, knowing that Duan Qingyu and Ji Xueli had been close before but had grown distant due to some issues.
He didn’t think she would be able to stir up much trouble.
“My health is terrible, Uncle Duan. Look at my hand, I still can’t hold a bowl or chopsticks…” Ji Xueli pouted, raising her hand in a show of helplessness.
Duan Qingyu silently smirked, watching her act.
“We’ve already caught the culprit, Xueli. Don’t worry.”
“That’s why I won’t let the mastermind go. Uncle Duan, don’t you agree? I’m injured like this.”
“Yes, yes, of course.”
