Chapter 64: Miss Song Has Arrived
“Li Li knows that you’ve kicked Ji Yanzhou out of the project?”
Cheng Du made a move on the chessboard, frowning in confusion: “Didn’t she say anything?”
“Xie Yujun called and asked her to plead for Ji Yanzhou, but she refused.” Duan Qingyu pinched a black piece with his well-defined fingers, blocking his path without hesitation.
“She actually refused? But before, she was…,” Cheng Du didn’t continue, since that was the reason they had fallen out in the first place.
“Looks like Li Li really has severed ties with Ji Yanzhou.” Anyway, Ji Xueli still hung out with them, and their current relationship resembled the way they interacted in middle and high school.
Duan Qingyu spoke in a calm tone, “Don’t you think she’s different now?”
“Different? Well, I guess after going abroad, her personality has changed a bit. Maybe it’s the foreign influence,” Cheng Du wasn’t particularly concerned, replying nonchalantly.
“She now looks like…?” Duan Qingyu’s lips curved into a slight smile.
Cheng Du didn’t hesitate to answer, “Like when she was little.”
“So?” Duan Qingyu looked at him, guiding him step by step. He had already taken it this far.
“So, she must have been influenced by Ji Yanzhou before,” Cheng Du said angrily.
“…”
Duan Qingyu smiled. “Well said, you’re still as cute as always.”
Cheng Du awkwardly rubbed his face. “You’re embarrassing me with the compliments.”
“No need to feel embarrassed; I’m not being sincere,” Duan Qingyu blocked his last route, his words and the moves on the chessboard equally fatal.
“Hey, Duan Qingyu, don’t think I won’t hit you!” Cheng Du rolled up his sleeves.
Duan Qingyu glanced at him, as if saying, “Come on if you dare.”
Cheng Du silently withdrew his hand. He really didn’t dare to strike… Among the three musketeers, it seemed like he and Ji Xueli were the leaders, but the one with real power was Duan Qingyu…
Just like Ji Xueli came up with the ideas, Cheng Du carried them out, but in the end, it was Duan Qingyu who cleaned up the mess and settled everything.
Duan Qingyu casually put away his chess pieces, ignoring Cheng Du’s words, and continued, “Actually, the Ji Xueli before was the one whose personality had changed.”
Cheng Du thought about it for a moment. This sounded a bit convoluted—what he meant was that the current Ji Xueli was the same as when she was younger, while the one before was the one who had changed…
After thinking for a bit, he suddenly understood and exclaimed, “That makes sense.”
“However, I still wonder how Li Li could fall for Ji Yanzhou when you look way better than him. So, it’s still possible that he took advantage of our absence when we were abroad and seduced Li Li.” He circled back to the same point.
Duan Qingyu sighed, rubbing his forehead. “You’re really clever.”
“Right?” Cheng Du beamed, almost as if his tail were wagging from the praise.
“Duan, Miss Song has arrived.”
Zhen Zhang knocked on the door and gestured. He still didn’t know about the change in their relationship, only that Duan Qingyu had previously said not to stop her if she came.
Cheng Du’s alarm bells went off immediately. “What’s she here for?”
“I’m busy. Don’t let her in,” Duan Qingyu waved his hand, lowering his gaze to play with the pieces in his chess box.
“Qingyu…”
Before Zhen Zhang could respond, Song Ruo’s voice rang out from the doorway. She stood there, looking at him with a delicate and pitiful expression.
Zhen Zhang looked conflicted, unsure how to speak.
“Leave.” Duan Qingyu glanced at her, then told Zhen Zhang to step aside.
“Alright.”
“How’s your injury? Have you been too busy? I’ve been calling you these past few days… but you didn’t answer…” Song Ruo walked in, speaking softly.
Duan Qingyu replied, “Mm, been too busy.”
