Chapter 69: They’re Coming Too
Ji Xueli was startled and jumped to the other side of the bed. She paused for a moment, then crawled over to answer the phone. But upon seeing the caller’s name, she was even more terrified. It wasn’t Duan Qingyu, but it was still someone that made her anxious.
“Lili, what are you doing? Why did it take so long to pick up?” As soon as the call connected, Chengdu’s displeased voice came through.
“I was just getting some water…” Ji Xueli replied.
Chengdu responded, “You’ve been busy lately. I couldn’t get through to you on the phone. Are you coming to the sea ball tonight?”
The sea ball was the event where she had first met Duan Qingyu. If it had been before, she would have gone right away.
But now…
“I have to study the script today. I have a shoot tomorrow,” Ji Xueli found an excuse to refuse.
“You have tomorrow off according to your schedule,” Chengdu said with a smile.
“…”
Oh no, she forgot about that! She had already sent her schedule to Duan Qingyu.
“What about Duan Qingyu?” Ji Xueli asked.
Chengdu glanced at Duan Qingyu, who was sitting next to him, then replied, “He’s here drinking with me. I know you probably don’t want him here, so you can come supervise instead.”
“Can I really control the young master? You overestimate me.” Ji Xueli chuckled awkwardly.
She had a plan now: make them believe it was Duan Qingyu who didn’t like her. Once she gave up, everything would be easier.
“You can, if not, find a man for yourself,” Chengdu laughed, glancing at Duan Qingyu, who was looking their way. He immediately stopped laughing.
“Lili, come over and join us. I’ll have the driver come pick you up.”
Before Ji Xueli could say anything, the call ended. She sighed helplessly.
For now, she could only follow her plan and try to fix the things that had gone wrong.
The sea ball was held on a luxury cruise ship, with two levels in the main hall. The attendees were famous stars, up-and-coming actors, and those eager to become famous.
There were also high-ranking officials, wealthy women, and young heirs and daughters from rich families.
“Is Xueli coming?” someone asked after Chengdu hung up.
“She’s definitely coming. It’s so lively, she wouldn’t miss it.” Chengdu raised his eyebrows, watching the crowd of people passing by. There were many fresh faces.
They laughed, “You knew Ji Yanzhou and Xie Yujun would be here, didn’t you? You invited Xueli on purpose.”
“That’s so she can watch the fun, and mainly because she’s here for the young master.” Chengdu glanced at Duan Qingyu, who was quietly drinking.
He added, “It’s been a while since I’ve seen her.”
Duan Qingyu sat in the middle of their group, placing his glass down. His expression was indifferent. Even when he was busy, she would always send him a message, but for the past few days, she hadn’t sent a single word.
“I heard that Xie Yujun went to the film set to look for Xueli. Probably because of Ji Yanzhou,” someone said.
“There’s that too. Xie Yujun really seems to have deep feelings for Ji Yanzhou, going to look for Xueli like that,” Chengdu sighed and shook his head.
“But she didn’t stay long. She probably didn’t want to help. But what’s the point of looking for Xueli? She should be looking for the young master,” they shrugged.
“If Xueli were to plead for him, I’d let him come back,” Duan Qingyu said slowly, his eyes lowered as he turned the ring on his finger.
The people present froze for a moment, their breath almost stopping as they looked at each other.
“But wasn’t it because of this matter that Xueli and the young master had a big fight?” someone blurted out, only to be immediately glared at by Chengdu.
Realizing their mistake, the person quickly lowered their head and apologized, “Sorry, young master.”
“It’s the truth. No need to apologize.” Duan Qingyu smiled faintly. He really didn’t care about what had happened before.
“Now Xueli has rejected him.” Chengdu spoke with a hint of pride, as though a child of his own had gotten first place in an exam.
Duan Qingyu smiled.
“Young master, Miss Ji has arrived.”
