“It shouldn’t be too difficult for me.”
Lu Yuetang picked up the math exercise book, carefully scanned the questions, and instantly mapped out every step in his mind.
“Come here, I’ll explain it to you—” He beckoned.
Hu Ouhua quickly walked over and sat on the floor beside the sofa table, half of her body nearly leaning against his leg.
(⊙o⊙)…
Lu Yuetang’s heart pounded wildly. He forced himself to suppress the restless feeling in his chest, trying hard to maintain his rationality as he began explaining the problem to Hu Ouhua.
The problem was an advanced-level question.
Technically, this type of competition-level difficulty wouldn’t appear on this year’s exam.
But he couldn’t guarantee that.
The first time he explained it, Hu Ouhua didn’t quite understand. She stared at the handsome man in confusion, tilting her head. “But I’ve already tried your approach, and it didn’t work.”
The man was being watched so intently by her, as if she could see right through him.
His usually indifferent gaze momentarily fell on her soft, red lips, and he found it hard to control himself. “Really? Show me how you did it.”
To conceal the turmoil in his heart, he made her turn her back to him and write out the solution again.
Without hesitation, Hu Ouhua picked up the pen and started writing.
Her full concentration was on the problem, unaware that she was almost leaning against his leg. His leg even started feeling a little numb.
Yet, he didn’t say a word and kept his posture steady.
From above, her elegant, slender neck, round arms, and the curve of her chest all radiated an intoxicating allure.
He slightly tilted his head back, avoiding looking at her, and gradually regained his composure.
“See? It doesn’t work at all.”
Hu Ouhua ruffled her hair in frustration.
Lu Yuetang took the pen from her hand, leaned down, and marked up her solution with circles and annotations.
Hu Ouhua was startled when their fingers brushed.
She turned slightly, looking at the man, and noticed how focused he was. His handwriting was fluid and clear, exuding a refreshing neatness that was unexpectedly pleasing to the eye.
“Take a look.”
He put down the pen and tapped on the exercise book.
Hu Ouhua blushed, realizing she had been distracted. When she carefully examined the marked-up solution, she saw a completely new approach emerge from just a few steps and markings.
Amazing.
“This really works!” She gasped in admiration, then praised him without hesitation. “Chief Lu, I didn’t expect you to still remember high school math. You’re incredible!”
Lu Yuetang glanced at her, catching the amazement in her eyes. A subtle sense of pride unexpectedly welled up in his chest.
Something that seemed so ordinary to him appeared extraordinary in her eyes.
This woman… was quite special.
“Ahem, I’m a little thirsty,” he said nonchalantly.
In reality, it was because she kept shifting her body, brushing against his knee, making his throat burn.
“I’ll get you some water—”
Soon, Hu Ouhua returned with a glass of water and handed it to him with a smile. “Chief Lu, I should call you Teacher Lu instead. You’re more than qualified to be my teacher.”
Pfft.
Lu Yuetang nearly spit out his water.
For once, he smiled and dismissed the idea. “No need. Too many people want to be my student. I don’t need another one.”
“Hahaha, okay, okay, I won’t be your student. Then what should I be?” Hu Ouhua joked.
As soon as she said it, she realized Lu Yuetang was staring at her intensely, as if he was angry. She quickly explained, “No, no, I was just joking. Don’t take it seriously.”
Once Lu Yuetang returned to the capital and she went to university, they would have nothing to do with each other anymore.
“It’s nothing. I’m just a little tired. I’m going to rest.”
With that, Lu Yuetang went to the bedroom on the first floor.
Hu Ouhua stuck out her tongue.
In her past life, she hadn’t met many truly capable people, so she didn’t know what kind of temperament elite figures like Lu Yuetang had.
But she figured he wasn’t much different from the ones she had encountered.
His personality… was strange and unpredictable.
Soon, it was time to fill out college applications.
Hu Ouhua took a day off from Lu Yuetang, put on a light blue dress, carried her canvas backpack, and headed to school.
When she got her application form, she filled in “Beijing University” as her first choice and “Beijing Normal University” as her second. The last two choices she left blank.
Teacher Sun suggested she include Ning Province University as a backup, but she declined.
Ning Province University was in Ning City.
She didn’t want to be entangled with Wang Chunlan and Hu Jingsheng anymore. If that happened, she’d rather not go to college at all.
After submitting her form, she left the school.
As she walked to the alley entrance, Wu Weiwei waved at her. “Hu Ouhua, come here. I have something to tell you about your sister.”
Many students nearby turned to look at her.
Especially since Wu Weiwei had brought up her sister.
If she ignored it, she would seem heartless.
Especially in this era, when social background still mattered.
Hu Ouhua rolled her eyes in frustration.
Since Wu Weiwei hadn’t done anything too outrageous in her past life, she reluctantly walked over and asked impatiently, “Speak quickly, I have things to do.”
She had finally gotten a day off and wanted to borrow books from the library.
Wu Weiwei grabbed her arm and pulled her into the alley. “I heard your sister, Hu Jingsheng, is involved with someone from the Yang family…”
What?
Hu Ouhua, who had been resisting, immediately looked at Wu Weiwei with suspicion, wondering what her real intention was.
“I know I was wrong before,” Wu Weiwei continued, “I was fooled by Hu Jingsheng. But after spending more time with you, I realized you’re genuine and kind. I don’t want to be deceived by her anymore. Can you forgive me?”
Her expression was full of remorse.
It sounded very touching.
But did Hu Ouhua believe her?
“Cut the act. Just say what you want. Don’t take me for a fool,” she sneered coldly.
Wu Weiwei gritted her teeth.
She hadn’t expected Hu Ouhua to be so guarded.
But she only needed to walk a little farther, and her task would be complete.
“It’s like this—I saw your sister having dinner with a man at the state-run restaurant. He had a huge black birthmark on his face. It was quite unsettling.”
Hu Ouhua just responded with an indifferent “Oh.”
Wu Weiwei continued leading her forward, trying to keep her distracted.
“Later, I heard that man was actually supposed to be your match for an arranged marriage—”
Whoosh.
A cold, piercing gaze shot toward her.
Hu Ouhua’s face darkened. “Who told you he was my match?”
Wu Weiwei was startled but quickly replied, “Your third aunt’s daughter told me.”
So that’s how it was.
Hu Ouhua clenched her fists.
She had done everything to avoid Yang Wei and stay away from the Yang family, yet they kept trying to drag her down.
A wave of anger surged in her chest.
She spoke harshly, “Let me be clear. I have nothing to do with the Yang family. If anything, they are my mortal enemies!”
Clap. Clap. Clap.
As soon as she finished speaking, a few figures emerged from the alley.
Fat, thin, tall, short—not a single decent person among them. Clearly a bunch of gangsters and thugs.
They approached step by step.
“You guys stay back—” Hu Ouhua turned to run.
But the moment she did, she saw Yang Wei and Hu Jingsheng standing right in front of her.
