After returning to his study, Lu Yuetang sat down, preparing to light the lamp and get to work. However, as he recalled his mother’s mention of a blind date, a wave of irritation surged through him, accompanied by an unexplainable sense of resistance.
He lowered his head, pressing his hands against his heavy skull.
The moment he closed his eyes, darkness seemed to sprout limbs, winding around him strand by strand. That soft sensation from earlier returned, sending a rush of heat through his chest.
In an instant, he felt a surge of heat flood his entire body.

Lu Yuetang’s body was burning up, and the dark lines on his arm had deepened to an alarming shade. Noticing something was wrong, Gu Wanru hurriedly sent him to the hospital.
Upon arrival, he lost control and had to be restrained.
But his body wouldn’t stop trembling, almost flipping the entire hospital bed over.
Watching her son in such a state, Gu Wanru grew anxious and questioned the doctor, “How could this happen? Wasn’t he getting better before?”
The doctor was at a loss as well. Apart from administering a sedative, there was nothing else they could do.
After a long day of turmoil, Lu Yuetang was sent home in a daze, immediately falling into a deep sleep. His dreams were filled with strange, surreal images.
Hu Ouhua, seeing him like this, was deeply worried.
But it seemed she didn’t even have the right to care for the child’s biological father. The Lu family was highly vigilant, preventing her from stepping even a foot onto the second floor.

“Ouhua, Professor Chang’s grandson from the military hospital needs a summer tutor. He’s arranged for you to have a trial lesson tomorrow. If your spoken English and listening skills pass, you’ll be responsible for his English lessons moving forward.” Shen Fubai said with a smile.
“Great!”
Hu Ouhua’s previous disappointment vanished, and she instantly beamed with joy.
Just then, a series of firm footsteps echoed from outside the door. Two orderlies stepped in, followed by a tall, broad-shouldered middle-aged man in a military uniform, his expression grim.
“Hu Ouhua, so you really are here—”
Seeing the Lu family members rise one by one, Hu Ouhua quickly guessed that the middle-aged officer must be Lu Yuetang’s father, Lu Baiting. However, before she could react, a familiar figure darted out from behind Lu Baiting, pointing at her with an accusing glare.
It was none other than her infamous mother-in-law from her past life—Qingfen Sao.
What was she doing here?

Hu Ouhua shifted her gaze behind them, and sure enough, as she expected, standing deferentially beside Lu Baiting was none other than her abusive ex-husband, Yang Wei.

“Where is Yuetang?” Lu Baiting asked coldly.

Sensing that something serious was unfolding, Gu Wanru hesitated but followed them inside.

Qingfen could no longer hold back her temper and snapped, “Hu Ouhua, you really have no shame! You knew my daughter was meant to be with Commander Lu’s son, yet you still dared to move into their house? What right do you have?”
On the way to Beijing, Yang Wei had repeatedly warned his mother not to accuse Lu of any improper relations with Hu Ouhua. If the two of them truly had an affair under the same roof, Lu Yuetang might change his mind and abandon Jiaojiao, leaving her in an even worse situation.
Lu Grandma and Lu Jingjing had come out of their rooms.
They were unsure who the newcomers were and didn’t know whom to side with, so they decided to observe the situation first.
But Qingfen was no pushover.
Upon seeing Lu Grandma, she immediately recognized her as the elder of the household. Wiping away fake tears, she cried, “You must be the elder of Commander Lu’s family! I wouldn’t have traveled thousands of miles if I weren’t desperate.
My poor daughter gave herself to your grandson, Yuetang. He has already acknowledged her as his partner, and the whole of Ningcheng knows about it! If he doesn’t marry my daughter, she’ll have no choice but to end her life—”

Lu Grandma, who had been idly watching the drama unfold, was stunned. But she caught the key point: her grandson had “tainted” an innocent girl, and now the family had come to claim justice.
Her vision went dark, and she nearly lost her balance.
“Grandma! Grandma, are you alright?” Lu Jingjing quickly supported her, her face full of concern.
“I’m fine. Let her explain everything—”
Lu Grandma brushed her granddaughter aside, her sharp gaze turning even colder.
Qingfen wiped her crocodile tears.
She assumed the Lu family finally had someone reasonable who would stand up for Jiaojiao, so she eagerly continued, “My daughter, Yang Jiaojiao, has been involved with Commander Lu’s son since Ningcheng. He even made sure to send her to Beijing in advance for work—”
A firm statement.
Yang Wei also stepped forward, abandoning his usual scoundrel demeanor and speaking respectfully, “Yes, I personally introduced my sister to Commander Lu—”
Lu Grandma trembled with rage.
A family of scheming rats! They must have deliberately taken advantage of her grandson’s illness to push their daughter onto his bed, forcing him into an inescapable situation!

If this were the old days, such people would have been beaten to death with sticks!
“Mother, let Wanru handle this. She’ll take care of it properly.” Lu Baiting, who had previously been aggressive, suddenly softened his tone.

With that, she walked up to Qingfen and pulled out a gold bracelet from her pocket. “This is a gift for my dear in-law. Don’t worry—there will be more in the future. Everything Yuetang owns will belong to Jiaojiao too.”
Qingfen, overwhelmed by the grand gesture, beamed with joy and even threw a triumphant glance at Hu Ouhua.
