Chapter 42
Turn Off the Lights
“Good day, Commander!”
All the soldiers saluted.
The gazes of several high-ranking officers were as cold as frost as they swept over the Yang family’s mother and daughter, releasing a wave of oppressive authority.
Yang Wei and Qing Fen felt the tension among the soldiers, their hearts skipping a beat.
However, remembering the Lu family’s status in Beijing, they quickly reassured themselves, believing there was nothing to fear. Yang Wei sneered, “Who do you think you are? Do you even know who we are?”
Qing Fen puffed out her chest and stepped forward. “That’s right. You’d better not offend us.”
“Haha, then let’s hear it. Just who do you think you are to act so lawlessly?” A middle-aged man, whose hair was turning white, chuckled coldly.
The two men beside him exchanged glances, their eyes filled with authority.
“My son-in-law is Lu Yuetang—”
Just then, a voice called from the entrance, “Reporting, Colonel Lu has arrived!”
With this announcement, under everyone’s watchful eyes, Lu Yuetang, dressed in military uniform, entered the room alongside Shen Fubai. The moment they stepped in, they saluted the three leaders.
Upon hearing Lu Yuetang’s respectful greeting, the Song family felt a faint glimmer of hope.
Song Wenli immediately stepped forward and recounted everything Yang Wei and Qing Fen had done.
“Did you do this?” Lu Yuetang asked coldly.
Yang Wei nodded without hesitation. “Yes, I did. But Yuetang, it’s really nothing serious. I used to date Hu Jing Sheng, and we just broke up. They’re making a fuss, claiming they’ll charge me with indecent assault. Now that you’re here, just arrest them instead—”
“I don’t know him. Waaaah!” Song Beibei cried, stomping her foot.
Lu Yuetang’s gaze was as cold as iron.
Turning to the three leaders, he spoke with solemn respect. “Everything will be handled according to protocol.”
According to protocol?
The Song family didn’t understand what kind of “protocol” he meant.
Yang Wei, on the other hand, smirked and stepped forward to grab Lu Yuetang’s arm, but Lu Yuetang stepped back to avoid him. After an awkward pause, Yang Wei forced a laugh, rubbing his nose. “You’re really cold, brother-in-law. How is my sister supposed to like you like this? But I know you’ll help us.”
Seeing Qing Fen’s triumphant expression while the Song family looked devastated and furious, several soldiers suddenly stepped forward, seized Yang Wei’s arms, and twisted them behind his back.
“Hey! Hey! What are you doing?!” Qing Fen shouted, slapping the soldiers frantically. “You’ve got it wrong! It’s them you should be arresting—”
Yang Wei still didn’t realize the gravity of the situation and chuckled. “Brother-in-law, say something! Tell them to let go. Stop joking… I don’t like this.”
Lu Yuetang’s voice was ice-cold. “From now on, anyone who uses my name to commit crimes and tarnishes the reputation of the military will be handed over to the police without exception.”
At those words, Yang Wei finally realized something was wrong.
His brother-in-law was actually having him arrested?!
How could this be?
Hiding in the crowd, Hu Ouhua watched as Yang Wei was taken away. The tight string in her heart finally loosened.
Even though she had cut ties with Yang Wei in this lifetime, he had always been a lingering threat in her mind. Especially since he had gained notoriety in Beijing by clinging to Yang Jiaojiao, she had always felt uneasy whenever Li Suyun mentioned the Yang family.
Now, if things were being handled seriously, that would be great.
Even the three military leaders—who rarely appeared in public—were being treated with such respect by Lu Yuetang. Clearly, Yang Wei had hit a solid wall and was still completely unaware.
“Son-in-law, you can’t be so heartless! Even if you won’t spare your brother-in-law, at least think of Jiaojiao! How can you make things difficult for her only brother? If you do this, Jiaojiao will never forgive you!” Qing Fen shouted in panic.
Lu Yuetang let out a cold “hmph” and said to the three leaders, “I will ensure that the Song family and the military district receive a satisfactory resolution. Please rest assured.”
The three leaders exchanged glances. The one who had spoken earlier patted Lu Yuetang on the shoulder with a smile. “Good. We will be watching closely.”
With that, they turned and left together.
As soon as they departed, Song Wenli became anxious again, afraid that Lu Yuetang might just be putting on a show while secretly letting Yang Wei go. He pleaded desperately, but the high-ranking officials were all busy and disappeared in no time.
Song Beibei’s sobbing was giving everyone a headache.
Just as Qing Fen raised her hand to hit someone, Lu Yuetang’s voice turned icy. “Comrade, I suggest you think carefully before taking action. I’ve already called the police.”
“Lu Yuetang, what do you mean by this?!” Qing Fen snapped in anger, hands on her hips.
If the Lu family dared to make things difficult for them, she’d just expose the fact that Lu Yuetang was infertile. Then, let’s see if the Lu family could still hold their heads high in Beijing!
“Reporting, the police have arrived. The commissioner himself is overseeing the case.” A soldier stepped forward to report.
Lu Yuetang nodded in satisfaction.
A group of five or six police officers marched in, immediately pulling out handcuffs and restraining Yang Wei without a word.
“Aaah! Let go of me!” Yang Wei screamed, his voice like a slaughtered pig.
No one paid him any mind.
At this moment, Qing Fen finally realized that Lu Yuetang was serious. Panicked, she rushed forward to beg. “Son-in-law, we were wrong, okay? Just let your brother-in-law go. He didn’t mean it.”
Lu Yuetang ignored her, simply telling the police commissioner, “Handle this by the book,” before leaving with Shen Fubai.
The police took Yang Wei toward their vehicle.
Of course, for the sake of the investigation, the Song siblings and several witnesses at the scene were also taken in for questioning.
“Mom! Mom! Go find Jiaojiao! Find Gu Wanru! Lu Yuetang is nothing! This is his karma—hahaha, karma!” Yang Wei shouted as he was dragged away.
Qing Fen, before she could even turn to leave, was also taken in for questioning.
Everything happened so quickly.
Hu Ouhua, who had watched the entire scene unfold, felt exhilarated as she made her way to the performance hall. Following the seat number on her invitation, she found her assigned seat.
As soon as she sat down, she spotted Yang Jiaojiao and Gu Wanru, who had arrived much earlier.
“Hu Ouhua! What are you doing here? Even my brother and mother don’t have front-row seats! Who do you think you are? Get out!” Yang Jiaojiao sneered, arms crossed.
Hu Ouhua remained calm. “Sorry, but I have a ticket.”
“How could you have a ticket? You must have stolen it!” Yang Jiaojiao shouted, drawing attention from those around them.
Gu Wanru sighed, already regretting bringing this fool along.
Hu Ouhua smirked. “Don’t you know that the tickets are registered? It’s easy to check who they belong to. You might want to think before you speak next time—otherwise, you’ll embarrass yourself beyond measure.”
“Hu Ouhua! You’re mocking me!”
“Yes, I am.”
Hu Ouhua didn’t bother to hide her disdain.
“Mom, she’s bullying me! She’s insulting me, which means she’s insulting Yuetang and the whole Lu family! You have to stand up for me!” Yang Jiaojiao wailed.
Tying herself to the entire Lu family in an instant.
Gu Wanru narrowed her eyes, assessing Hu Ouhua’s sharp tongue. Just as she was about to intervene, Hu Ouhua spoke. “Aunt Gu, I’ll step out for some fresh air instead of watching the performance.”
“Alright.”
Gu Wanru quickly agreed.
She had been worried the argument would escalate, but Hu Ouhua showed great tact, instantly easing her dilemma.
Yang Jiaojiao, unwilling to back down, wanted to make a scene, but Gu Wanru grabbed her arm and whispered a few words. Only then did she lower her head in defeat.
