I’m Just a Passerby in a Time-Travel Rebirth Novel | Chapter 17

“Where’s your mother? Doesn’t she know she should come to the factory to ask about it?”

Some people in the crowd questioned this. In these times, everyone knew that family members can take over the work, so how can they believe that the job are taken back by the factory?

“I don’t know. My grandparents didn’t allow my mother to ask. They said it was embarrassing.”

After Tang Momo finished speaking, she lowered her head again, looking timid.

“What’s your father’s name? When did your father leave?”

Someone continued to ask, trying to verify the truthfulness of Tang Momo’s words.

“No, no. If my grandparents find out I came here, they’ll definitely blame me. Although we are separated and our family live alone, they are still our elders.”

After saying this, Tang Momo took one last look at the factory entrance and then ran off.

When Tang Momo ran away, everyone looked a bit confused. “Which family’s girl is this? Is what she said true?”

“It should be true. Who would lie about their own father?”

After some discussion, they couldn’t come to a conclusion and had to let the matter rest for now. Although it was set aside, it left a mark in everyone’s minds.

Tang Momo ran so fast she was a bit out of breath. She patted her chest and felt that she had achieved her goal for coming to the shoe factory today.

The next time she would appear would be during Tang Xiaoxue’s work hours. When Tang Xiaoxue saw her at the shoe factory, she would probably be the first to chase her away.

Thinking of what was to come, Tang Momo nodded with satisfaction and then went to the supply and marketing cooperative.

After leaving the supply and marketing cooperative, Tang Momo didn’t want Jia Daguo to wait too long, so she went directly to the entrance.

Hearing her footsteps, Jia Daguo put away his pipe and looked at what she was carrying. “You’re here already; that’s quite fast.”

“I just looked at the shoe factory and see this as a way to move on from a period in my life.”

Tang Momo’s tone was a bit downcast, which made people feel sorry for her.

Jia Daguo knew a little bit about the separation of the Tang family, but unfortunately, it was someone else’s family matter. Even if he felt that the Tang family’s actions were not fair, he had no position to say anything.

Seeing Tang Momo’s distressed look, he couldn’t help but curse the Tang family again in his heart.

He sighed and said warmly, “Girl from the Tang family, listen to me. Things will only get better in the future. If the food factory works out, everyone will look at you differently. By then, your grandparents will probably regret their actions.”

Tang Momo was amused by his tone. “Let’s hope so.”

She doesn’t care whether they regret it or not.

On the way back, Jia Daguo and Tang Momo talked a lot about the food factory. Tang Momo listened seriously, knowing that Jia Daguo was helping her in his own way.

“Captain, I will work hard to sell the fruits of our team and get a job in a food factory.”

That way, she would be away from the uncertain factor of Xu Xiaoyun.

Who knows whether her halo as a heroine will affect her, or whether her forced removal of the official CP will have any impact on her.

But considering the plot was already slowly shifting, Tang Momo thought it probably wouldn’t have much impact.

After all, from the moment she entered the novel, she had already been the biggest change.

When they reached the village, Jia Daguo reminded, “When the dried fruits and jam you mentioned are ready, remember to tell me. Then I will find someone to take you to the food factory.”

This was a matter concerning the entire production team, so it naturally couldn’t be taken lightly.

Tang Momo eagerly nodded in response, “Yes, I’ll come to find you when it’s ready.”

“Go ahead, and try to get it done in the next couple of days. Otherwise, the fruit might spoil.”

Jia Daguo was actually uncertain about whether the food factory would accept the products Tang Momo made.

If it succeeded, he wouldn’t have to worry about the team’s food supply this year. If not, he would need to find another solution.

On the way back from the city, Tang Momo felt like her legs weren’t even her own. As soon as she entered the yard, she was surrounded by two little ones. “Sister, you’re back?”

Seeing the two little one’s eyes fixed on the bag in her hand, Tang Momo couldn’t help but smile, “I bought the chicken cakes. I’ll prepare them for you when we go inside.”

Tang Momo glanced at Xiao Bao. Previously, she felt that adult grudges shouldn’t involve children.

But obviously, this is just their wishful thinking, and they don’t agree with it, so she doesn’t want to be a good person anymore.

Tang Yangyang and Tang Jianping saw that Tang Momo didn’t share the snacks with Xiao Bao as usual, and the two little ones were delighted. They proudly called out to Xiao Bao, “Xiao Bao, we have egg cakes today. Do you have any?”

They even showed off by tugging at the bag Tang Momo was holding. In the past, it was Xiao Bao who flaunted things to them, but today they finally got to show off, so the two little ones looked very pleased.

“Tang Momo, why aren’t you giving me any?”

Xiao Bao was unhappy. Why wasn’t he given any? It hadn’t been like this before.

“We are separated; why should we feed you?”

Tang Momo suddenly felt that kindness was really a matter of who you were dealing with. Let’s just think that the kindness she and Zhang Xiaoli showed in the past was fed to the dog.

“I’m going to tell Grandma to come and deal with you.”

Xiao Bao said this and ran to the front yard. He wanted to see if they dared to be so arrogant once Grandma arrived.

Hearing this, Tang Yangyang and Tang Jianping looked nervously at Tang Momo. “Sister, will Grandma come and scold us?”

“If she comes, don’t be afraid. Let’s go and eat the chicken cake.”

The two little ones were scared of Chen Lanying, so they felt uneasy when Xiao Bao mentioned her.

Seeing their hesitation, Tang Momo patted their cheeks and said gently, “Don’t be afraid. I’m here.”

The two little ones weren’t timid; it was probably because Chen Lanying left a shadow on them when they were young, so they were scared whenever she was mentioned.

Sure enough, before they had finished half of their chicken cakes, Chen Lanying’s sharp voice came from outside, “Tang Momo, you little brat, get out of here!”

Hearing this, the two little ones trembled. Tang Momo gently touch their shoulders and said softly, “Don’t be afraid. I’ll go out and take a look. You two stay here and be good.”

Tang Momo took a couple of steps but realized that Tang Yangyang had grabbed the hem of her clothes. Turning around, she saw Tang Yangyang cautiously say, “Sister, don’t go out. Grandma hits people.”

Seeing Tang Momo remain silent, Tang Yangyang grew anxious, “Really. Last time Xiao Bao wanted to play with us, and when my brother and I didn’t want to, Grandma twisted our ears.”

“Why didn’t you tell us before?”

Tang Momo suppressed her anger and tried to soften her tone.

“I’m afraid you’ll be worried.”

Tang Yangyang and Tang Jianping already understood what ‘burden’ meant and didn’t want to cause more concern for their family.

Seeing Tang Yangyang’s expression made Tang Momo even more determined to go into the city. She had never realized the heavy shadow Chen Lanying had cast over the two little ones.

Tang Momo’s mind quickly flashed back to the insults Chen Lanying directed at them after Tang Dajun’s death, and how Chen Lanying had pointed at them and called them burdens to get them to leave.

Tang Momo took a deep breath; since it had come to this, she would clear things up today and put an end to it.

Chen Lanying, who was outside, didn’t get a response, and she was even more angry. She pulled Xiaobao and kicked the door open. “Tang Momo, are you deaf? Didn’t you hear me calling you?”

Looking at the door that was kicked open, Tang Momo’s eyes turned cold. She met Chen Lanying’s angry eyes and said calmly. “Grandma, have you already forgotten that we’ve split the family? If you break our door, you’ll have to pay for it.”

“Even if we’ve split, I’m still your grandmother. This house belongs to the Tang family. It’s just a door. If it’s broken, it’s broken. How can you be so vicious at such a young age? Xiao Bao is also your cousin; why don’t you give him something to eat?”

Seeing Tang Momo’s cold eyes, Chen Lanying’s tone involuntarily softened as she spoke.

“My father contributed so much to this family over the years. If it weren’t for his salary, could we have built the yard now? But once my father was gone, how did you mistreat our family? Grandma, aren’t you afraid that my father might come to find you in your dreams?”

Tang Momo felt that this person was shameless and clearly had no bottom line.

Chen Lanying didn’t expect Tang Momo to suddenly bring up old grievances. It was no different from being scolded. She sneered, “Tang Momo, is this how your mother taught you? Since she didn’t teach you well, I will teach you how to be a human being.”

“No need. Grandma, you better teach my sister-in-law a lesson instead. She not only took my brother’s job but also treats her widowed sister-in-law, nieces, and nephews like this. Even animals know how to be grateful, yet she’s clearly worse than an animal. I wonder if her in-laws know that she’s worse than a beast.”

Tang Momo’s eyes were filled with disgust as she looked at Chen Lanying.

“Tang Momo, who are you talking about? Say it again if you have the guts.”

Tang Xiaoxue, who happened to overhear those words, glared at Tang Momo with anger.

“I said, even animals know how to be grateful. As a human, if you can’t even do that, aren’t you worse than an animal?”

Tang Momo said, glancing disdainfully at Tang Xiaoxue.

Tang Xiaoxue was so furious she couldn’t even speak. She stepped forward to slap Tang Momo, but Tang Momo grabbed her arm. “What right do you have to hit me? Who do you think you are?”

After saying this, Tang Momo turned to the twins. “Go to the team leader’s house and tell him that your grandmother and aunt want to beat us to death while the adults are not home.”

“You little brat, what nonsense are you talking?”

Chen Lanying definitely didn’t want the two little ones to go to the team leader, but they were as slippery as fish. In the blink of an eye, they ran out of the yard. Once outside, the twins’ cries rang out, “You’ve beaten someone to death! You’ve beaten someone to death! My grandma and sister-in-law are going to beat us to death!”
