I’m Just a Passerby in a Time-Travel Rebirth Novel | Chapter 48

After hanging up the phone, Gu Chengze’s face was full of smiles. But he couldn’t help but “hiss” after moving for a little bit.

Although he was able to came back alive, both he and Yang Dajun were injured. Fortunately, the injuries weren’t too serious.

“Okay, you’ve been smiling ever since you came back. Isn’t it because you have a partner now?” Yang Dajun looked like he couldn’t stand his expression.

“What do you know?” Gu Chengze snorted lightly.

“You act like you’re the only one with a partner.” Yang Dajun snorted too, thinking that he had a partner even before Gu Chengze.

Tang Momo, on the other hand, was clearly in a better mood. She touched her heartbeat, which was faster than usual. She thought, maybe she was actually happy.

“Is everything resolved?”

Sure enough, Hu Jie discovered that she was different as soon as she returned.

Tang Momo nodded slightly, “Yes, sorry for worrying you these past few days.”

“As long as you’re okay,” Hu Jie gently patted her on the shoulder.

After that call, the two resumed their usual exchange of letters, but the exchange became more frequent.

Tang Momo originally thought she couldn’t handle a long-distance relationship, but now she realized it wasn’t about the distance—it was that the right person hadn’t appeared before.

Even Zhang Xiaoli could see Tang Momo’s change.

When Zhang Xiaoli asked, Tang Momo did not hide anything and openly admitted that she was dating Gu Chengze.

Before Zhang Xiaoli could celebrate, Tang Momo quickly warned her. “Dating doesn’t always end well, so we might not end up together.”

Zhang Xiaoli knew her daughter had always been decisive, so she nodded. “As long as you’re happy.”

“That reminds me, Mother, what’s the situation between you and Chairman Zheng?”

Tang Momo hadn’t forgotten about it.

Zhang Xiaoli thought of what Chairman Zheng said that day and looked calm. “He wants to find someone to spend his days with, but I don’t think it’s appropriate.”

Zhang Xiaoli just wanted a peaceful life and didn’t want to be in the limelight. Besides, nothing had happened yet, and his son already came to her, acting like she was after something from their family.

But there is no need to tell Momo this, so as not to worry her.

Tang Momo was just stunned for a moment, and then nodded to express understanding. “I see, if you don’t think it’s appropriate, we can keep looking.”

Zhang Xiaoli was amused by her words and couldn’t help but stretch out her hand and knock her on the head, “You think it’s like picking vegetables? Keep looking? I think things are fine as they are. In the future, if you two don’t mind, I’ll come over and help take care of your kids.”

“That sounds tiring. You should also enjoy your life,” Tang Momo said while squeezing her mother’s shoulder.

“It’s fine. That also reminds me, does Aunt Zhao know about you and Xiao Gu?”

Tang Momo shook her head, “I asked him not to tell Grandma Zhao first, and wait until he comes back.”

Thinking of Tang Momo’s words earlier, Zhang Xiaoli suddenly had the thought that her daughter was not taking things seriously.

“Momo, I know you have your own plans, but you should take this relationship seriously.”

Tang Momo was stunned for two seconds before she understood what she meant. She suddenly felt amused and helpless because her mother thought she would only break Gu Chengze’s heart.

Aside from sending letters, the two would call each other about once a week, and soon, everyone at the food factory knew that Tang Momo had a match in another city.

One time when she met Yang Jianlin while eating, he smiled gently and said, “Is this the same person who sent you to the factory last time?”

Although he asked without mention anyone, Tang Momo still realized what he meant and nodded, “Yes, that’s him.”

“Congratulations.”

“Thank you, Brother Yang.”

Time flies by so fast, and before she knew it, it was the end of the year. Today was the last day of the year, and Tang Momo returned home with the New Year supplies from the factory.

Today was the 28th, and they planned to go back to Qingshui Brigade on the 29th to pay respects at Tang Dajun’s grave.

Zhang Xiaoli also carried a lot of things from the shoe factory. She glanced at the things Tang Momo brought back and then quickly made an arrangement, “Bring these to Aunt Zhao when you go back tomorrow.”

Tang Momo thought for a moment, “That works; we can’t finish all this anyway.”

It was also at this moment that Tang Momo remembered she hadn’t sent back the deposit slip that Gu Chengze had sent her last time.

Thinking of this, she couldn’t help but cover her face, realizing she needed to send it back to him as soon as the new year was over.

The next morning, they packed up their things for the trip home. After going back so many times, the twins no longer felt that the journey was long.

Tomorrow is New Year’s Eve, so the team is particularly lively, with everyone preparing for the New Year.

Tang Momo first went to Gu Chengze’s house with her things. Zhao Xiuli was very happy to see her coming. She had just recovered and pulled Tang Momo to talk for a long time.

Once she learned the reason for Tang Momo’s family return, she reluctantly said goodbye.

After leaving the Gu family, Tang Momo went directly to Tang Dajun’s grave. Tang Jianan and Zhang Xiaoli were cleaning up the surrounding.

Tang Momo stepped forward to help, and the two little ones also arranged the things they brought.

Compared with the atmosphere last time, the atmosphere this time was obviously much more pleasant.

Even the twins, who had little memory of Tang Dajun, were rushing to talk about what happened to them recently.

After paying respects at the grave, they didn’t stay longer in Qingshui Brigade; for them, this place was no longer home. The house in the city was their true home.

Gu Chengze had never felt that the New Year was a special holiday before, but this year’s New Year was obviously different. Tang Momo sent him things from their factory in advance to wish him a happy New Year.

It turned out that the New Year could be like this. In his memory, New Year is not a pleasant event. The children of his uncle’s family have new clothes to wear and lucky money to received, while he only got the lucky money Zhao Xiuli gave him.

But the lucky money was all saved up from her frugal living, so he didn’t want to accept it.

In those years, he had come to dislike the New Year.

But now, with Tang Momo, he started to look forward to this holiday.

Although Tang Momo and the others just moved into the city this year, many people came to pay New Year’s greetings after the second day. They were all colleagues who had a good relationship with her mother.

Hu Jie, Wang Qian, and others also came to their house to pay New Year greetings and took her out to play with them.

In the blink of an eye, the days passed quickly, and their Chinese New Year was spent so happily.

But soon it was time to go to work, and Tang Momo still wasn’t used to it. As expected, no one liked going to work.

Her days at work were no different from before. She still worked during the day, studied at night, and took advantage of her spare time to draw some designs and send them to Aunt Huang.

The benefits she get from Aunt Huang were beyond Tang Momo’s expectations, which strengthened her determination to continue dealing with Aunt Huang.

In the first letter after the New Year, she sent back the deposit slip to Gu Chengze, but it was quickly returned to her. He asked her to keep it for him, saying it was originally meant for his wife.

Tang Momo’s face heated up unconsciously, and she felt that she was stirred by those simple words.

This time, she didn’t send it back to him. She glanced at the handwriting on his letter and couldn’t help but bite her lip; she decided to keep it for him for now.

Gu Chengze was actually a little worried, fearing that she would send it back again. Fortunately, this time the deposit slip was not included in the letter, which relieved him.

Although the two only kept in touch through letters and phone calls, this happiness was something Tang Momo hadn’t imagined before. She thought she wouldn’t be able to hold on, after all, they couldn’t communicate face to face.

It turned out she could grow to like this kind of communication. Tang Momo touched her cheek, and it was indeed much warmer than usual.

People in the dormitory were already used to seeing Momo lying in a daze. Wang Qian stepped forward and patted her on the shoulder. When she met Tang Momo’s confused eyes, she continued to repeat what she had just said, “Momo, I said my marriage is settled. Can you help me draw a dress?”

Tang Momo blinked in surprise, “Are you really getting married?”

“Yes, since we get along well, why not get married sooner?” Wang Qian looked puzzled.

It seemed reasonable when she put it that way. Tang Momo nodded, “Okay, I’ll definitely draw you a beautiful dress.”

“Thank you, Momo.”

Wang Qian looked very happy.

While Tang Momo was drawing the design, she couldn’t help but start imagining her own wedding. Could she and Gu Chengze reach that step?

To be honest, she wasn’t sure. Her goal was college, but what about Gu Chengze? They didn’t seem to have talked about the future, or they were both avoiding the topic. Thinking of this made Tang Momo fall silent.

It’s not convenient to discuss this matter in the letter. Maybe she can wait until Gu Chengze comes back for vacation this year to discuss it.

Thinking of this, Tang Momo let go of the little entanglement in her heart and let nature take its course.

After more than half a year, Tang Momo got used to the progress of the Publicity Department and was able to arrange her time reasonably.

But these past few days, she had been somewhat restless. If she remembered correctly, the book mentioned that Gu Chengze would be injured the night before his wedding to Xu Xiayun. Counting the days, it should be around this time.

She didn’t know the cause and specific time of Gu Chengze’s injury, so she could only write to him to be careful every time.

When Gu Chengze saw her reminders, he recalled Xu Xiaoyun’s previous letter. Every time he did something, he was fully focused.

But in the end, he still got injured. To save Yang Dajun, he thought that even if he could do it all over again, he would still make the same choice.

With old injuries unhealed and a new one added, Gu Chengze’s injuries were particularly severe this time. When he was taken into the operating room, he only asked them not to notify his family.

Whether it was Zhao Xiuli or Tang Momo, he didn’t want them to worry about him. He planned to come clean with them later and firmly believe that he would be fine.

Yang Dajun hesitated for a moment, but in the end, he respected his choice. Probably because he had a strong desire to survive, Gu Chengze’s operation was successful.

Along with the good news of successful surgery, there was also bad news. Even if Gu Chengze recovers this time, his body is no longer suitable to stay in the army because he can no longer do high-intensity movements.

Although this news is regrettable, at least Gu Chengze was still alive, which was fortunate.

After losing contact with Gu Chengze for a month, Tang Momo had a bad feeling. She even wanted to go to him directly. It was at this time that Tang Momo received a call from Gu Chengze and learned the news that he was about to change his career.
