Chapter 2
The overall layout of the zoo was planned reasonably well, with the cafeteria, warehouse, and other facilities located on the periphery. Kong Bi put away the groceries she had bought and began preparing dinner for herself while pondering how to recruit staff.
The little monsters in the game couldn’t transform into human forms and had intelligence comparable to children aged seven to thirteen. While some exceptional pets could achieve similar intelligence, Kong Bi wasn’t sure if the same applied in the real world. After all, what if she encountered a diligently cultivating little monster? If they could transform, the recruitment issue would need careful consideration. What if someone got suspicious and called the police, inviting her for a ‘cup of tea’?
However, not hiring staff was completely out of the question. Such a large place couldn’t be managed by one or two people alone. Veterinarians, security guards, zookeepers, cooks, ticket sellers…
Kong Bi calculated her New Year’s money and the five million she had saved from renting out her apartment, unsure if it would be enough.
If it really wasn’t, she’d just have to ask her family for more.
With that thought, Kong Bi breathed a sigh of relief. She began to remove the seeds from the bitter melon and cut it, turning to slice the pork, only to find that the pork in the bowl was being carried away by a large, robust black cat.
The black cat had sharp, golden cat eyes, strong, taut muscles, and smooth fur that faintly glowed red in the sunset. Most captivating were its round head and visible double chin. Its black tail swayed from side to side, and its eyes were fixed on Kong Bi, but it seemed reluctant to give up the food in its mouth, not choosing to flee even after she noticed it.
This was a wild cat.
Kong Bi quickly made this assessment, as the cat was visibly wild and not domesticated. It likely rarely saw humans, and its gaze was that of an animal looking at a completely unfamiliar species.
Perhaps it was due to her own supernatural abilities, but Kong Bi instinctively knew the cat’s general situation upon seeing it.
She said softly, “Little kitty, can you give me the meat back? I’ll cut some for you once I’m done?”
“Meow—!”
As soon as Kong Bi spoke, the black cat’s fur stood on end, and it leaped up, arching its back and staring at her.
As a person who loves cats, Kong Bi saw a cat’s reaction to her for the first time, and she couldn’t help but doubt her life.
The black cat was already showing signs of retreat, backing away towards the window. Kong Bi stood still, avoiding startling it further.
“Woof-meow—!”
A soft, delicate meow sounded, and a beautiful calico cat suddenly leaped onto the window where the black cat was about to escape. The black cat immediately looked alarmed.
“Meow meow meow—!”
“Woof-meow?”
The calico cat casually rubbed against the black cat and then immediately lunged for the pork.
Kong Bi didn’t expect that this was a gang crime. Obviously, the black cat was originally planning to take the meat down for the three-color calico cat to eat, but unfortunately, I don’t know if it was impatient to wait, and the three-color cat actually came over by itself.
It was the first time Kong Bi saw such a beautiful cat. It had a round and tight body, delicate features, clear and bright round eyes, and silky hair covering its body. Even among the many beautiful cats, it should be the most beautiful one.
As expected, these two cats should be lovers?
Cat aesthetics differ from human aesthetics. While humans often consider white cats to be the epitome of feline beauty, cats themselves view calico and tortoiseshell cats as their ‘fairy maidens.’ Furthermore, female cats often favor ‘greasy uncle’ cats as mates, as those who can thrive in the wild and grow to such size clearly possess superior hunting skills, making them more attractive to females.
Therefore, in the eyes of the cats, they were undoubtedly a combination of handsome male and beautiful female
The black cat cried anxiously a few times, and seeing that the calico cat was only eating, it had to stare at Kong Bi while approaching the cat, trying to take the foodie cat away.
The calico briefly rubbed against the black cat and then resumed eating, just like someone engrossed in a video game who, when approached by their partner, absentmindedly says ‘Of course I love you more’ before diving back into the game.
Kong Bi couldn’t help but chuckle. Unexpectedly, the calico, who was completely absorbed in its meal and had no sense of alertness, raised its head because of this. Its bright, sparkling cat eyes looked at Kong Bi, as if examining a novelty.
What’s wrong with her voice?
Kong Bi was puzzled. Could it be that after she became a spirit, her voice sounded different to animals?
The calico took a small step towards Kong Bi, its upright tail curving into a question mark, looking at Kong Bi with confusion.
“Woof-meow?”
“Aren’t you afraid of me?” Kong Bi didn’t expect this calico to be so bold, showing no fear in its eyes. She couldn’t help but smile and extend her hand. “Do you want to come over? I think I have a bag of cat food in my bag.”
Because she often encountered cats trying to scam her on the street, Kong Bi almost always carried cat food in her bag.
As if understanding her, the calico couldn’t resist taking another step forward. However, the black cat, which had previously refused to approach, suddenly sprang up, blocking the calico and hissing at Kong Bi.
The black cat bared its teeth, refusing to budge. However, the calico couldn’t resist trying to push away the black cat blocking its path. When the black cat refused to move, the calico actually jumped up and lunged at Kong Bi.
Kongbi subconsciously took a step back, and the calico landed steadily. Perhaps thinking that Kongbi was playing a game with it, it twisted its butt and pounced on her again.
After a few attempts, Kong Bi couldn’t help but scoop it up. The calico wasn’t afraid of strangers, sniffing and meowing, and even rubbing its face against her.
Seeing that the situation was beyond redemption, the black cat sat on the edge with a look of utter despair, its cat eyes numb as if it had lost its soul.
Kong Bi hadn’t ignored the black cat either. Perhaps because of the calico’s friendliness and her own lack of any suspicious behavior, the black cat’s hostility had lessened, but it still kept a close eye on Kong Bi, preventing her from doing anything to harm the calico.
“Woof-meow—”
The calico meowed softly and cutely, and after sniffing, it couldn’t resist sticking out its tongue and licking Kong Bi. Kong Bi subconsciously glanced at the black cat and noticed that its vigilant gaze was gradually filling with murderous intent.
This kitty is quite jealous!
Kongbi couldn’t help laughing a little, watching the black cat couldn’t help but stand up and call Sanmao, couldn’t help but reach out from the top of Sanhua’s head, stroked the tip of the tail, and then reached out to scratch Sanhua’s chin.
Kong Bi couldn’t help but chuckle. Seeing the black cat standing up and calling out to the calico, she couldn’t resist reaching out and stroking the calico from its head to the tip of its tail, and then scratching its chin.
The calico immediately narrowed its eyes, purring comfortably.
“Meow meow meow!”
The black cat paced back and forth, trying to summon the calico back to its side, its gaze towards Kong Bi now like that of someone watching a rival.
“Woof-meow—”
The calico let out its unique, delicate meow, as if inviting the black cat to come over.
The two cats meowed and exchanged. It was not known whether they were arguing, but it was obvious that the black cat lost in the end. It meowed in frustration and sat there looking at Kong Bi with resentment.
Fearing that the black cat would harbor a grudge against her, Kong Bi bent down and placed the calico on the ground. The calico let out a short ‘woof,’ its peculiar sound resembling that of a small dog. It rubbed against Kong Bi’s legs and then ran back at the black cat’s call. However, it couldn’t resist the allure of Kong Bi, this super-sized ‘bird,’ and turned back to pounce on her. After several such back-and-forths, it reluctantly ran towards the window.
Kong Bi looked at the mangled pork that had been left behind and sighed, “Wait, take the meat with you.”
“Woof-meow?”
The calico looked at the meat in Kong Bi’s hand and couldn’t help but take a few steps forward.
“Meow meow!” The black cat immediately blocked the calico, saying something to it, and cautiously approached Kong Bi step by step.
It stared intently at Kong Bi, its body tensing as it got closer. The calico’s urging meows made it somewhat anxious. Seeing this, Kong Bi simply put the meat down. The black cat immediately darted over, grabbed the meat, and jumped off the windowsill, disappearing with the calico.
Kong Bi watched their departing figures and pondered. They couldn’t have appeared here for no reason. This place was quite empty before, perhaps it’s within their territory, so they came to investigate?
And her voice seems to sound different to animals…
Wait!
Kong Bi suddenly realized, in the black cat’s eyes, wouldn’t she look like a giant bird?
The calico’s previous lunging movements also closely resembled those of cats playing with birds, and it only started to notice her after she spoke.
Compared to the black cat, the calico was likely domesticated before, so it wasn’t afraid of humans at all, clearly accustomed to these two-legged creatures. It might have run away during its heat cycle and been lured away by the black cat. Therefore, the calico wasn’t repulsed by Kong Bi and only looked at her with surprise and confusion after she spoke.
So, in the cats’ eyes, was she both human and bird?
This possibility seems quite likely, otherwise there’s no way to explain why the black cat’s fur stood on end after she spoke. Kong Bi suddenly recalled that cats that approached her in the past also seemed to enjoy playing with her in this way, but would pretend to be nonchalant when she looked over. Even the most wary wild cats showed little vigilance when she approached.
Because it’s normal for cats to behave like this when playing, Kong Bi hadn’t given it much thought. But now that she thought about it, other people’s cat-attracting physique abilities involved cats lying at their feet and begging for attention, while in her case, it was energetic pouncing and playing.
Doesn’t this mean that her bloodline wasn’t granted by the game, but was something she already possessed?
It’s just that now that her bloodline is activated, everything seems to be manifesting more clearly. Or perhaps the presence of a ‘yao’ brings a stronger sense of pressure to animals, and animals themselves are more sensitive, which is why they react so strongly?
With many questions lingering in her mind, Kong Bi decided not to overthink and returned to cooking. Since the meat was gone, she simply made a bitter melon and scrambled egg dish. After all the fuss, she finally managed to eat her dinner and thought with a serious expression that hiring a cook should be prioritized over hiring zookeepers.
She wondered when the green peacock would arrive. According to the game’s setting, the recruitment interface would be unlocked once the zoo had a species of animal. This was why she wasn’t in a hurry to recruit. If she could hire people from the game, she wouldn’t have to worry about being invited for a ‘cup of tea’ by the police.
Unfortunately, the game did not prompt when the green peacock group would arrive. It only showed “on the way”. I don’t know when they will arrive and how they will arrive?
With the expectation of the arrival of the green peacock, Kong Bi fell asleep.
