Chapter 36 part 3
In Kongjia Village, people prefer quiet when sleeping at night, so any stray cats or dogs that wander into the neighborhood are promptly caught and neutered to prevent them from howling during spring. Additionally, the houses in the community are usually well soundproofed. The diligent property management even collects special circumstances from residents daily and posts them in the group chat to notify everyone—for example, which household might be noisier today due to tutoring their child with homework, or which family plans to discipline their child and hopes for the neighbors’ understanding.
Everyone is very polite and mindful of not disturbing others.
Yet, despite this, occasional sleepless nights are inevitable—such as when the pet chicken, pet duck, or pet cat… suddenly gets restless for a few nights.
But Kong Bi is extremely sure that the sound they add up is not as loud as the sound she heard at this time.
You’re a tiger! How can you snore when you sleep?!
Isn’t this a bit too much?!”
Kong Bi suddenly felt a twinge of regret. She shouldn’t have softened her heart and stayed—after all, the big cat had held out for so long, one more day wouldn’t have made a difference. If she sneaked back to her bedroom now, surely the tiger wouldn’t wake up in a panic the next morning and start frantically yelling “MOM!” to call her back, right?
After all, it shouldn’t feel the pressure to fight for survival anymore.
…Right?
The next day.
A light drizzle filled the air, wrapping the zoo in a misty haze, painting a scene straight out of a poem.
Until a thunderous ROAR shattered the tranquility in an instant—as if suddenly hurling everyone into the wild struggle for survival.
“WAAAH!—”
Along with the tiger roar, there was also a scream. Kong Bi suddenly woke up from her sleep and sat up blankly from the ground.
“Great! Director, are you okay?” Li Da stood trembling in the distance.
The big cat stood alertly in front of the iron cage, baring its teeth and staring at the strange visitor.
“Why wouldn’t I be?” Kong Bi yawned and rubbed her eyes sleepily.
Li Da said: “When I came in, the tiger was licking you. It’s terrible!”
Kong Bi frowned and couldn’t help raising her hand to smell it.
Her whole body, from head to toe, exuded an indescribable…fishy smell.
“What have you done?!” Kong Bi couldn’t help but wail.
“Ah?”
The big cat turned his head innocently and looked at Kong Bi, his amber eyes full of innocence.
Because she slept well last night, the big cat woke up much earlier than Kong Bi. Out of closeness, boredom and politeness, the big cat rubbed Kong Bi’s body all over, attentively, diligently and devoutly. The big cat swore that it had never been so serious when it cultivated feelings with its partner. It rubbed its tongue so hard that it couldn’t retract it!
It believed that Kong Bi must have felt its enthusiasm.
The big cat ignored the humans outside and happily walked to Kong Bi. It raised its big head slightly and looked at Kong Bi. Its tail swung slightly, and even the staggered stripes on its body seemed to be jumping for joy.
Looking at the big cat asking for praise, Kong Bi ruthlessly pushed its big face away, impatiently opened the door, went out, and locked the door. The big cat didn’t react in time.
“Roar?”
The big cat looked at Kong Bi’s back blankly as she left quickly. It stood up and its huge tiger claws pried through the gap in the railing to try to keep Kong Bi. It didn’t understand why she didn’t respond to it and why she left.
“Roar——”
It called out blankly and anxiously, but all it had left was Kong Bi’s back without looking back.
Kong Bi swiftly darted into the bathroom and quickly lathered herself with body wash.
She didn’t actually consider herself a clean freak, but her overly developed sense of smell made it impossible for her to accept such a strong lingering odor. Normal cuddling and nuzzling were fine, but now she felt like she’d been completely coated!
Was this something a cat would do? It must be a dog!
The most enthusiastic licking cat Kong Bi had ever seen would only lick one spot; how could there be one that licked everywhere like this?
She felt like she was suffocating!
And her hair!
Kong Bi, who was already suffering from hair loss due to the summer, pulled at her hair under the showerhead and immediately pulled out a clump of dark strands. Instantly, she felt a faint pain in her heart, a feeling even more unpleasant than yesterday when she gave the little demon tiger a blood transfusion spread through her entire body. Mixed with a faint fishy stench, it made her eyes water.
Would she get bald spots from being licked?
Half an hour later, Kong Bi finally came out of the bathroom, changed into a clean set of clothes without strange smells, and picked up her phone to take a look.
It was half past nine. There were many missed calls displayed at the bottom of the phone.
Kong Bi had regained her senses and probably guessed why they had rashly gone to the tiger house. Judging from Kong Bi’s usual schedule of getting up at six o’clock, Kong Bi’s absence from the tiger house at this time was enough to make everyone have bad thoughts. Therefore, even though they knew that the tigress in the breeding season was hostile to any intruder who approached her territory without permission, they still chose to go and check.
Opening the door, she saw Wang Ling squatting at the entrance. Seeing Kong Bi come out, she immediately said, “Director! You quickly go to the tiger enclosure! It’s been calling out constantly since you left!”
Kong Bi was stunned for a moment before realizing, “I’ll go right now.”
Although the threat of death was no longer present, this big cat was unexpectedly clingy. Logically speaking, as solitary creatures, tigers should be very well-adapted to living alone. Although wild tigers occasionally visit other tigers’ territories, this is extremely rare. Most of the time they live independently, and except during mating season, they don’t go to other tigers’ territories, having long been accustomed to solitude.
Perhaps the concept of loneliness simply doesn’t exist for them.
But there are exceptions in any species. Kong Bi didn’t have time to dry her hair and had to rush back again.
People who are pregnant have great mood swings, and so are pregnant tigers.
Before she reached the tiger house, Kong Bi heard the roar of the big cat. Wang Tianba and Hua Jiao stood next to each other on a tree. They didn’t dare to contact the owner of the voice. It was not because they were afraid, but because they instinctively felt the other’s irritability.
Both Wang Tianba and Hua Jiao were still girls. As monsters, they had high standards and would not easily choose a partner, but some instincts were still there. They felt some strange throbbing from the tiger’s breath. They didn’t know what it was, but instinctively didn’t choose to approach the other’s territory to stimulate the other.
Until they saw Kong Bi coming over, their eyes lit up, and they fell to the ground with flapping wings, stirring up a large cloud of dust.
Neither Wang Tianba nor Hua Jiao had the ability to fly at this time. It was very strenuous to climb up the tree for a short time. When they came down, they jumped directly, and their wings only played a supporting role.
They were thick-skinned and did not get hurt. They shook their feathers to disperse the dust and immediately followed Kong Bi.
Kong Bi immediately stopped them. The smell of the monsters would make the big cat more uneasy than the appearance of humans.
The two little monsters stopped angrily and stood at the door, lingering, stretching their necks to try to see what animal made the sound.
Because Kong Bi had taken a bath, there was not much smell left on her body, and the smell around was complicated. The big cat did not notice Kong Bi’s return, and still walked back and forth at the door of the iron cage, occasionally making a long call.
Although it was very afraid that Kong Bi would never come back, the big cat did not dare to roar regardless, because there were two lives about to be born in its belly, which made it restrain its emotions all the time, but as time passed, it began to become more and more uneasy.
Until Kong Bi reappeared in front of it.
The big cat immediately jumped up excitedly, standing on its hind legs and stretching its front paws out forcefully.
“Roar! —”
Kong Bi couldn’t help but sigh, her gaze softening.
After all, what bad intentions could a big cat have? It was just expressing its affection in the wrong way.
Opening the iron gate, Kong Bi locked herself back inside.
The big cat excitedly pounced on her.
Tear—
The sound of fabric ripping rang out, and one of Kong Bi’s sleeves let out a precarious wail, falling from her shoulder to her elbow in an instant.
Kong Bi’s expression stiffened again.
“Roar…”
The big cat lowered its ears, vaguely sensing the change in Kong Bi’s aura, and crouched down on the ground, letting out a very soft growl.
It lifted a front paw and carefully nudged Kong Bi’s work pants.
Tear—
(。_。)
The big cat stared at the ripped pants, its front paw frozen in mid-air.
W-what’s going on?!
It looked up at Kong Bi, shifted uncomfortably in place for a moment, and then leaned its head over, gently rubbing its cheek against her.
This wasn’t a display of spoiled behavior, but rather an apology.
This is how felines usually apologize; the meaning is, “I’m already rubbing against you, what more do you want if you don’t forgive me? I’m giving you face!”
Lying down at a time like this has the same meaning. Of course, some will choose to run away and observe from a distance.
This usually indicates that they think you’re very fierce and that they might face a storm, so they have to run away in advance and come back when your emotions have calmed down.
The big cat didn’t run because it didn’t smell any blood, which indicated that its previous actions hadn’t caused too much of a problem, and there was no need to pack its bags and leave home.
The big cat had extensive experience with admitting fault and apologizing. Before adulthood, tigers spend an almost three-year-long cubhood living alongside their mother, and a tigress usually gives birth to one to four cubs in a litter. In their daily interactions, bumps and playful fights are inevitable, and it’s through these games that they learn the proper force and limits of their actions. Naturally, there are times when they accidentally injure their siblings.
At such times, the mother usually steps in to begin her loving education.
Therefore, the big cat’s attitude of admitting fault was very skillful and friendly, without a trace of arrogance.
At a time like this, refusing to submit would lead to a beating!
That’s what its experience told it.
Kong Bi let out a deep breath. What bad intentions could a two-hundred-plus-pound orange cat have?
Right?
Kong Bi fiercely rubbed the big cat’s face.
The big cat certainly didn’t have bad intentions; it was just that its body felt unusually light today, and the excitement of seeing Kong Bi again made it unable to control its strength. After all, it had only ever interacted with tigers and prey, and the force it used on either would definitely be unbearable for humans.
Kong Bi could withstand it, but her clothes proved they couldn’t.
The big cat comfortably narrowed its eyes, its amber gaze full of confusion.
It made a mistake, so why was Mommy rewarding it?
Could it have misunderstood?
Should it continue doing this next time?
