Monster Zoo Management Log Chapter 6

Chapter 6

After taking the green peacocks to recognize their territory, Kong Bi waited for the experts contacted by the forest police to come.

She had never thought that the green peacocks would come in this way before, but even if she knew, Kong Bi felt that she would not be able to respond in advance. After all, how to get a legal breeding certificate is not something that an ordinary person like her can do.

The wild animals in domestic zoos are mostly transferred between zoos, or donated, or they are seized by customs and illegally raised and can only be kept in zoos.

After all, if a wild animal survives well in the wild, who would be bored to keep them in captivity?

Especially for endangered animals, the goal that many people yearn to achieve is to protect their original habitats and prevent their functional extinction, rather than simply keeping them in captivity.

The green peacock wasn’t initially known by many for its beauty; in fact, very few people recognized it back then.

Its widespread recognition was entirely due to the efforts of conservationists who halted a 3.9 billion yuan hydropower project in Yunnan Province to protect its habitat.

Despite this, their status both domestically and internationally still doesn’t rival that of the giant panda. Many zoos even display green peacocks that are crossbred with blue peacocks, showing a lack of awareness in preserving the purity of their bloodline.

The experts arrived at the zoo shortly after 3 PM that afternoon.

The experts who came were all older, and they made people feel very relieved at a glance. Kong Bi led them to the peacock garden. One of the old professors looked around and said with emotion: “I haven’t been here for a long time.”

Kong Bi was stunned for a moment when he heard this: “Professor Quan, have you been here?”

Everyone looked over, obviously they were not aware of this matter.

Quan Xiangsong recalled, “I grew up at the foot of Peacock Mountain when I was a child. I also met my teacher here. At that time, we didn’t know much about wild animals, and there was no rescue station nearby. We sent any injured animals here.”

“Master Kong is an amazing Chinese veterinarian. She can solve any difficult and complicated diseases, and she knows the conditions of those injured animals very well.”

Kong Bi rubbed her nose, thinking that it was not wrong to say so. After all, if someone could talk to wild animals, wouldn’t they know everything about the animals situation? As for being skilled in medicine… in Kong Bi’s inherited memories, the effects of various herbs and fruits were described in great detail.

The first lesson for a young demon with inherited knowledge was to understand the outside world and receive ideological education, covering topics such as ‘The Moisturizing Effects of Various Natural Treasures on Feathers,’ ‘How to Find the Most Delicious Food,’ ‘Lists of Palatability Distinctions for Poisonous Foods,’ ‘One Hundred and Eight Methods to Make Humans Willingly Offer Sacrifices,’ …

Well, Kong Bi would call the last method the ‘free ride technique.’ Simply put, it’s similar to what giant pandas are doing now, and some involve tricking the current emperor or noble families into worshiping oneself as a divine beast. However, this method also carries risks, as one must guard against certain people obsessed with immortality who might see you as a source of eternal life.

Kong Bi received a lot of knowledge that seemed useful and useless. Many of the methods were too cruel nowadays. However, despite this, the inherited memory did teach Kong Bi a good lesson, letting her know how magnificent and magical the world once was.

Unfortunately, Kong Bi not only couldn’t sense the ‘Qi’ between heaven and earth mentioned in the inheritance, but also couldn’t find the natural treasures described as unparalleled delicacies in her inherited memories.

“If that’s the case, why have we never heard of a zoo here?”

Some people couldn’t help but wonder. Because of the special nature of the Shiwan Mountains, not only do scientific expedition teams often come here, but some people choose to stay here for a long time. Logically, they should not be completely ignorant of this place, but in fact, if it weren’t for today’s incident, they wouldn’t even know that there is a zoo here.

“This…” Quan Xiangsong smiled, “You don’t know yet, this place has been closed for a long time. When the tiger hunting operation was launched, the surrounding area was closed. Although it was lifted later, there have always been people stationed in Peacock Mountain. I haven’t been here for so long that even I almost forgot about it. If they hadn’t contacted me this time, I wouldn’t have known that it had been unsealed.”

Everyone suddenly realized that the danger near the Shiwan Mountains has always been high. It’s better now, after all, it has been partially developed. In the past, even the most experienced old hunters didn’t dare to go in easily.

Even so, there are still some doubts in everyone’s hearts that have not been solved, such as why has this place been blocked for so long?

Kong Bi was thoughtful after hearing this.

“Oh, by the way,” Quan Xiangsong suddenly remembered something and asked curiously, “Director Kong, how did you end up here? Running a zoo here probably doesn’t make much money, does it?”

“Well…” Kong Bi blinked, “I have some blood relation with the Master Kong you mentioned.”

Although the relationship was so distant it was practically non-existent.

“I see,” Quan Xiangsong wanted to ask again, Kong Bi said, “Here they are.”

Everyone looked over when they heard this, and saw a group of green peacocks playing and foraging on the lawn leisurely, without any anxiety of coming to a strange environment, and they were content as if they had been here since birth.

This immediately made everyone feel a little confused, and they couldn’t explain it, and finally couldn’t help looking at Kong Bi.

Kong Bi also looked back at them innocently.

“Miss Kong, I heard from the forest police that when he found the green peacocks, they were dancing around you?”

Kong Bi spread her hands: “It’s just a coincidence. I like to dance to relieve boredom when I have nothing to do. They just happened to fly over.”

The experts nodded when they heard it. They actually believed that it was a coincidence. After all, it’s impossible for the peacocks to really dance around her, right? This is too unreasonable.

Just when Kong Bi thought she had fooled them, the nearby green peacocks finally discovered Kong Bi’s arrival. They couldn’t help but flutter their wings excitedly and flew over. The scene was in chaos. The nearest white peacock couldn’t even maintain its balance because it ran too fast, and it rolled over in front of Kong Bi.

“…Are you okay?” Kong Bi reached out and picked up the white peacock, with a posture similar to catching a chicken. The white peacock shook its dizzy head, chirped, and happily rubbed its head against Kong Bi.

The white peacock didn’t look like it was in trouble, so Kong Bi was relieved and let it go to play. The other green peacocks were more cautious. Seeing that there were other strangers around Kong Bi, they dared to wander around, wanting to get close but afraid of the people around them.

Only Huajiao came over with a swagger, fluttering its wings and landing on Kong Bi’s shoulder. When Kong Bi raised her hand, it came down and stood on her arm, looking at everyone curiously.

Such an action is actually very dangerous, after all, a person’s arm is not a branch, but Kong Bi didn’t even feel the weight, so she didn’t realize there was any problem.

The experts couldn’t help but open their eyes wide, and it was difficult to understand this situation. They had observed that there were no leg rings on the feet of these green peacocks, which meant that they had never been captured when they lived in the Shiwan Mountains,  and might not even have been discovered by mountain patrollers.

An adult green peacock can weigh over ten catties (about 11 pounds), with male peacocks being even heavier due to their tail feathers, similar to those exceptionally overweight gas cylinder cats on the internet. Their weight isn’t as light as that of other birds, and it’s a solid, heavy feeling when they land on you. Seeing everyone’s gaze, Kong Bi realized she couldn’t let  Huajiao stay with her any longer, so she patted Huajiao: “Okay, go and play by yourself.”

Secretly, Kong Bi used a low-frequency sound that only peacocks can hear to let them leave first.

Huajiao let out a clear call, flapping its wings and leading the other green peacocks away.

“Miss Kong, why do the green peacocks seem to be very close to you?”

Kong Bi: “I don’t know what’s going on. They haven’t left since they flew into the zoo today. I fed them by the way, and they are like this.”

Everyone: “…………”

After some discussion, the group was unsure whether this behavior was unique to Kong Bi or if the green peacocks were naturally friendly to humans. Therefore, they decided to send their strongest and youngest apprentice to ‘risk themselves.’

Kong Bi didn’t mind. She had already given a heads-up, so she wasn’t worried about them getting hurt.

The muscular man, whose physique alone was imposing, cautiously approached a green peacock that was foraging. Due to the peaceful environment, the green peacock wasn’t very wary. It only noticed the man when he got exceptionally close, and it immediately became furious. Flapping its wings, it tried to peck him, mistaking him for someone trying to steal its food.

The strong man was worthy of being a frequent visitor to the wild. He ran back quickly and swallowed his saliva: “There is really something wrong with this group of green peacocks!”

Based on their understanding of the habits of green peacocks, this group of green peacocks is obviously very courageous. Usually, when green peacocks encounter danger, they either fly directly to a high place or spread their tail screens to deter the enemy.

Most animals living in the wild have a vigilant character. When they don’t know where the enemy is coming from, their first reaction is to avoid it, and then they will consider other things. This situation is applicable to beasts such as tigers.

But the first reaction of these green peacocks was to attack directly!

“Miss Kong, are they always like this?”

Kong Bi looked up at the sky: “How should I know this? I think they are very friendly. This is the first time I see them like this.”

Everyone was speechless.

Actually, Kong Bi knew why. With a little demon leading them, these green peacocks were clearly the dominant force in the surrounding area. Small and medium-sized carnivores would likely keep their distance. Therefore, they weren’t afraid even when a ‘giant’ creature approached. It was clear that they had memories of repelling or even killing enemies much larger than themselves.

After all, caution is relative for any creature. A fierce tiger can lose its wildness and become a docile cat when domesticated. Under the leadership of Huajiao, these green peacocks were undoubtedly bolder and more reckless than ordinary green peacocks.

The group couldn’t reach a definitive conclusion, so they decided to install some surveillance cameras in the area to observe first. Kong Bi didn’t object and allowed them to proceed.
