Lin Qing nodded, “Alright, I got it. You can leave now.”
After the person left, Lin Qing walked up to Wang Tiezhu, unlocked his handcuffs, and said, “You’re free to go, it’s all settled.” With that, she turned to leave.
“Hey, comrade, wait a moment!”
Wang Tiezhu stood up, stretched his wrists, and said, “I still have something to say!”
Lin Qing turned back. “What else?”
“Aren’t you going to give me an explanation?”
Wang Tiezhu said, “You arrested me without distinguishing right from wrong, even put handcuffs on me, and now you’re letting me go just like that? My reputation has been ruined! Let me tell you, I am a law-abiding citizen! This is my first time stepping into a place like this!”
Lin Qing scoffed. This guy was so smooth-tongued—ruined? Was he a woman or something?
She snorted coldly, “Wang Tiezhu, even if you’re a victim and hunting is legal, you were still setting up a stall outside the market illegally, and you had a controlled knife in your possession. That’s a fact, isn’t it?
I could still charge you for that!”
Wang Tiezhu retorted, “There were plenty of people setting up stalls there, why did you only arrest me? And that wasn’t a dangerous weapon—it was a kitchen knife! Or is it because I’m too handsome, and you’re secretly infatuated with me?”
“Pfft!”
Lin Qing spat in frustration. “You’re really thick-skinned! As if I would ever be into you. Keep dreaming!
Who told you to get into a fight? Stop messing around and get lost already!” She turned and strode toward the door.
Wang Tiezhu sighed helplessly. Women—they were all the same. Impossible to reason with. He accepted his bad luck and followed her out.
As they exited the interrogation room, they heard a commotion in the hallway. Several uniformed officers were running back and forth, looking anxious, as if something had happened.
Lin Qing stopped one of them. “What’s going on?”
A colleague replied, “Captain Lin, a suspect attempted suicide by swallowing poison while being escorted to the holding cell. He’s a key witness in a smuggling case, and the higher-ups are keeping a close watch. We can’t afford for anything to go wrong. The chief is already there.”
“What?!”
Lin Qing exclaimed and rushed toward the scene without hesitation.
Inside another interrogation room, the space was packed with uniformed officers. They were gathered around a suspect lying on the ground, foaming at the mouth.
“Where’s the ambulance?!” someone shouted. “Xiao Liu, go urge them again—hurry!”
Lin Qing stepped in and asked, “Chief Zhang, what happened? How did the suspect have poison on him? What kind of poison did he take?”
Zhang Bin, looking anxious, replied, “This guy is cunning. He hid rat poison in his shoe. The moment we let our guard down, he swallowed it.”
“Rat poison?!”
Lin Qing’s heart sank. That was almost certainly fatal. She urged, “Chief Zhang, we can’t just wait here! We have to rush him to the hospital, or he won’t make it!”
“You’re right!”
Zhang Bin snapped out of his panic. The suspect was under strict orders to be kept alive—if he died, Zhang Bin could very well lose his position.
“Come on, lift him up and get him to the hospital! Quick!”
Just as they were about to move him—
“If you don’t want him to die faster, don’t move him!”
A sudden voice rang out.
Huh?
Everyone looked up and saw a young man standing nearby. He wasn’t in uniform and was clearly not one of their officers.
Zhang Bin frowned. “Who are you, kid?”
Before Wang Tiezhu could answer, Lin Qing snapped, “Wang Tiezhu, stop causing trouble! If the suspect dies because of you, I will hold you accountable!”
This woman, seriously…
He sneered, “If he dies, it’s entirely because of you. Look at him—pale face, foaming at the mouth, convulsing. Moving him will only accelerate the spread of the poison in his bloodstream and speed up his death.
His pupils are already dilated. By the time you reach the hospital, he’ll be dead! He needs immediate first aid!”
Lin Qing was furious. “And what, you think you can save him? You’re a hunter, not a doctor! If you mess up and kill him, you won’t be able to bear the consequences!”
Wang Tiezhu rolled his eyes. “Do you really think he has a chance if you just stand around? At this point, it’s better to try something than do nothing. Who knows, maybe there’s still hope.”
“Hope? What nonsense—”
“Let him try!”
Zhang Bin interrupted. The kid had a point—they had no other options.
“I trust you. Do what you can!”
“Chief Zhang!” Lin Qing protested. “He’s just a hunter! How could he possibly—”
Zhang Bin silenced her. “Enough! Let him try. If we do nothing, this man is as good as dead.”
“Alright!”
Wang Tiezhu didn’t waste any time. He crouched beside the suspect, pulled out a set of silver needles from his pocket, and swiftly inserted them into the man’s body with practiced precision. His movements were fast, steady, and confident.
Even though the officers didn’t understand what he was doing, his composure alone convinced them that he knew his stuff.
After a few minutes, the suspect’s chest started moving slightly.
“Quick, get a basin—he’s about to vomit!”
“Right, right!” Someone ran out and returned with a basin.
Wang Tiezhu twisted the silver needles in the suspect’s chest. The suspect’s body convulsed violently before he suddenly retched—
“Ugh—!”
He vomited large amounts of dark, foul-smelling blood. The stench made several people gag.
After he finished vomiting, his face regained some color, and his breathing became steadier. His eyes opened slightly, no longer as lifeless as before.
Zhang Bin was overjoyed. “He’s alive! The kid actually saved him!”
Without saying much, Wang Tiezhu pulled a small bottle from his bag and handed it to an officer. “This is my homemade antidote. Have him drink it and monitor his condition.”
“Right away!”
The officer carefully fed the suspect the antidote. After drinking about half the bottle, the suspect’s complexion visibly improved. His breathing evened out, and he murmured,
“I… I’m not dead?!”
Wang Tiezhu calmly removed the needles and said, “You still have criminals to testify against. The King of Hell isn’t ready to take you yet.”
