Such cold and hateful eyes were like sharp needles that pierced straight into Gu Yingyi’s heart, bringing him a fine and dense stinging sensation.
Inexplicably angered by his eyes, Gu Yingyi turned cold and scolded, “Le Le’s health was not good to begin with. Everyone is very sad about the accident. Don’t keep talking about it, Shen Yu!”
After he finished speaking, Gu Yingyi realized that he had spoken too harshly.
As expected, Shen Yu was stunned for a moment, then began to tremble uncontrollably. He cried even harder, and his tears flowed down like broken strings.
He bared his fangs at Gu Yingyi like a furious female beast that had lost her cubs. He no longer looked docile. He pushed Gu Yingyi out desperately, “Get out! Yu Yu hates you! I hate you!”
Gu Yingyi’s anger continued to rise as he kept calling Shen Yu “hateful”. Gu Yingyi, who was originally worried about Shen Yu and felt sorry for Shen Yu, finally lost his patience and slammed the door and left.
After Gu Yingyi left, Shen Yu closed the door tightly, returned to where he had just sat, carefully picked up Lele’s urn, and shed tears silently.
He curled up in a protective posture and hugged the urn. He pressed his tearful face against the urn and rubbed it gently, “Baby, I’m sorry…”
On the other side, Gu Yingyi left Shen Yu’s residence in anger, his face was so gloomy that it was scary, and the atmosphere around him made everyone in the company dare not approach.
Shen Yu really doesn’t know what’s good for him. He never stops being so naughty. He shouldn’t feel sorry for Shen Yu. He deserves to be starved to death.
”Mr. Gu, Mr. Gu?”
His thoughts were interrupted by the voice of his assistant. He was stunned for a second before realizing that he had been distracted during the meeting. The shareholders had expressed their opinions and it was his turn to speak.
He was a little uneasy, his mind full of Shen Yu’s resentful eyes, and he couldn’t focus on his work for the time being.
”Since all shareholders have collectively approved this plan, there is no need to show it to me again. Just implement it according to the plan.” Gu Yingyi pinched his aching brows, said these words that shocked everyone, and then adjourned the meeting and left.
The shareholders were talking about it and they all felt that Gu Yingyi was a little strange today. Not only was he distracted during the meeting, but in the past, no matter what the plan was, no matter how many people agreed with it, it had to go through his opinion again before it could be finally implemented. What happened today?
Coming out of the company, Gu Yingyi frowned and closed his eyes, leaning against the cushion. When his assistant asked him where he was going, Gu Yingyi paused and said, “Home.”
When he returned home, he stopped when passing by Shen Yu’s closed room.
The food placed at the door was no longer untouched. Although he didn’t eat much, he was finally willing to eat.
Gu Yingyi felt a little better for no reason when Shen Yu was willing to eat.
When the servants went to clean up Shen Yu’s meal, he called Aunt Jiang and asked her to make some nutritious soup for Shen Yu. If he was willing to eat, she would ask him what he wanted to eat and then make it for him.
After giving instructions to Aunt Jiang, Gu Yingyi returned to the study to handle his work.
In the following days, Gu Yingyi would occasionally send messages to his aunt at the company, asking whether Shen Yu had eaten and whether he had locked himself in the room with the urn all day again.
Gu Yingyi didn’t realize that he could only calm down after receiving Shen Yu’s message every day that he had eaten. Otherwise, he would always think of Shen Yu sitting in his room without eating or drinking.
His aunt replied that Shen Yu had eaten half a bowl of porridge at noon today, so she made some nutritious soup for Shen Yu and planned to send it to him in the evening.
After receiving the reply, Gu Yingyi’s restless mood immediately calmed down. He was somewhat surprised to find that his mind was being led by Shen Yu.
An idea was about to come out, and he immediately denied it.
He just felt a little guilty towards Shen Yu. Shen Yu had just lost his child and was unable to get over the grief for a while.
Shen Yu found him hoping that he could protect and treat the child, but now that the child had an accident at Gu’s house, he failed to take good care of Lele, and he had a large part of the unshirkable responsibility.
Thinking this way, Gu Ying felt that caring about Shen Yu was the most reasonable thing to do and there was nothing wrong with it.
In the Gu family villa, Aunt Jiang was serving nutritious soup to Shen Yu as instructed by Gu Yingyi. Shen Chao happened to come back and saw Aunt Jiang carrying the soup towards Shen Yu’s room.
Shen Chao frowned, “Why do we bother to make soup for him when he doesn’t eat or drink every day? It’s all wasted.”
Aunt Jiang lowered her head, “Mr. Shen, this is… this is what Mr. Gu ordered.”
Shen Chao paused, frowned, and almost thought he had heard it wrong. When did Gu Yingyi care so much about Shen Yu?
”Oh, then you take it.” Shen Chao said with a smile.
After Aunt Jiang left, the smile on Shen Chao’s face faded and his eyes made people shudder.
Gu Yingyi was about to go home at the company when he suddenly heard a conversation between two girls working at the front desk. The girl had her back to Gu Yingyi and the two were chatting enthusiastically.
”Please don’t make the animals too cute. I have two cats and a dog at home. Every day after work, I go home and take a deep breath, and all the fatigue and sadness of the whole day disappear instantly.”
Another girl agreed, “Yeah, yeah, it’s really good for your mood. I plan to get one after I move.”
Animals can heal the mood. Gu Yingyi remembered that Shen Yu had a dog before, but Shen Chao didn’t like it, so he didn’t let Shen Yu keep it. Where did the dog go?
Gu Yingyi thought for a while and remembered that Shen Yu’s dog seemed to be with Aunt Jiang’s daughter.
He asked his assistant to go to Aunt Jiang’s daughter’s place and take Shen Yu’s dog back. He knew that Shen Chao didn’t like dogs, but if Shen Yu continued to suppress himself like this, he would go crazy sooner or later. So he just took the dog back and let him lock it up and raise it.
Thinking of this, he immediately called his assistant and asked him to pick up the dog. However, the assistant called back a short while later and said that the Shiba Inu that was kept at Aunt Jiang’s daughter’s house had been lost a long time ago.
Gu Yingyi frowned.
No one knows why the dog was lost. Aunt Jiang’s daughter didn’t know anything and her answers were very vague.
Gu Yingyi had no other choice at the moment. Buying another one was not realistic, and he did not expect Shen Yu to be able to raise a dog in his current condition. He could only ask his assistant to find one first.
Lele was to be buried today, so Gu Yingyi returned home early. As soon as he entered the house, he saw Shen Yu, who had been locked in the room, coming out.
He was terribly thin, wearing a black suit that was loose and big on him, his face was as pale as paper, and his figure was so weak that it seemed as if he would fall down at the slightest breeze.
Even so, Shen Yu still held Lele’s urn tightly.
In addition to the urn, he also held a lot of Lele’s favorite toys in his arms.
Shen Yu didn’t know what burial was. He only knew that today Lele would live in the cold and dark underground like the housekeeper.
His expression was one of numbness from excessive grief. He walked very slowly, and his frail figure leaning against the building was shaky, as if he was about to fall down at the next step. Gu Yingyi stood in front of him and instinctively reached out to Shen Yu to help him, but Shen Yu didn’t even raise his head or look at Gu Yingyi. He walked past Gu Yingyi with slow steps, stubbornly and silently.
Gu Yingyi pursed his lips and said nothing, silently withdrew his hand that was stiff in the air.
They got in the car and drove to the Gu Family Cemetery.
Shen Chao was also traveling with them.
Shen Yu didn’t say a word along the way. He sat quietly in the corner of the back seat with his eyes lowered.
Gu Yingyi sat in the middle and Shen Chao sat next to Gu Yingyi. None of them spoke. The cramped carriage was exceptionally quiet.
Lele’s tombstone has been carved. Several people stood in front of the small grave. Shen Yu knelt on the ground. He first held Lele’s urn to his chest, touched it with his hand reluctantly, then carefully placed Lele’s urn into the grave, and finally placed the toys one by one next to the urn.
Shen Yu, who had been expressionless all this time, finally changed his face. His hands trembled slightly and tears began to fall uncontrollably. He held back his tears and stroked the photo of Lele on the tombstone with his pale fingers.
The sky was gloomy, with gray dark clouds hanging overhead. It was going to rain.
After Lele was buried, Shen Yu was still kneeling in front of the tombstone and refused to get up.
Shen Chao said: “Xiao Yu, it’s going to rain, we should go back.”
Shen Yu did not respond to Shen Chao, but touched the photo with tears in his eyes.
No one understood how painful it was for Shen Yu to lose Lele, nor did they know how much he blamed himself for not protecting Lele. Shen Yu always felt so regretful that he wanted to die.
But it was too late, his baby was gone.
Shen Chao was anxious to rely on Gu Yingyi to make a comeback recently, and he had countless things on hand, so he left before them.
Gu Yingyi waited for a while, and when he saw that Shen Yu still didn’t get up, he said, “Shen Yu, we should go now.”
Shen Yu then slowly stood up with the help of the tombstone. He had been kneeling for too long and his legs were numb from blood loss. He staggered and almost fell. Gu Yingyi was quick to support him.
Unexpectedly, as soon as Gu Yingyi touched Shen Yu, Shen Yu pushed him away reflexively, as if since Lele left, Shen Yu began to refuse Gu Yingyi’s touch, and didn’t talk to him, and was very resentful of him.
”Yu Yu can walk by himself. I don’t need you.” Shen Yu stubbornly refused to let Gu Yingyi help him.
Gu Yingyi couldn’t explain how he felt, he just knew that he hated Shen Yu’s attitude towards him.
He stood there and watched Shen Yu leaning against the building and walking with difficulty. Before Shen Yu took two steps, Gu Yingyi saw the thin figure sway twice and then fall down.
He rushed over and helped the man up, his tone involuntarily tense: “Shen Yu.”
Shen Yu fainted and Gu Yingyi sent him to the hospital.
Malnutrition coupled with depression is too much for even the strongest body to handle in the long run.
Shen Yu will be in the hospital for two days, and Gu Yingyi will come to see him after work.
After Shen Yu woke up, he often wore hospital gown, stood barefoot by the window, and stared at the scenery outside.
He would stand there for a long, long time without moving, like a statue.
It was the same today. Gu Yingyi worked overtime for a long time today and came to the hospital to see him after nine o’clock in the evening. When he pushed open the door of the ward, Shen Yu was still barefoot on the cold floor, staring out the window motionlessly.
It was unknown what he saw, but his eyes, which had been out of focus, slowly came into focus as he looked up at the objects outside. Then Gu Yingyi saw a very faint smile slowly rising up on Shen Yu’s sickly and pale face.
Gu Yingyi was slightly stunned. This was the first smile he saw on Shen Yu’s face since he lost Lele for so long.
