When Xu Xingran woke up, she was already in the villa she had lived in for seven years.
Mrs. Chen, upon seeing her awake, was extremely concerned.
“Ranran, quickly, drink this bowl of porridge to nourish your body.”
Goodness knows how delighted Mrs. Chen was when she saw Xu Xingran being carried back by He Hansheng.
Even though Xu Xingran had sent her a message with a new phone to let her know she had returned safely to Xiangcheng.
Mrs. Chen was still worried about Xu Xingran.
After all, an engagement party is too important for a woman, especially considering how deeply in love she had been with He Hansheng for so many years.
As a woman herself, she could understand the despair of seeing one’s dreams shatter in an instant.
But Mr. He didn’t seem to care at all.
Xu Xingran had sent her a message saying she was fine, but Mrs. Chen couldn’t bring herself to believe it.
She was afraid Xu Xingran would be too heartbroken.
Now that she was back, under her watchful eye, Mrs. Chen felt much more at ease.
She had watched Xu Xingran grow up since she came to the capital, a truly kind and sincere girl.
Unfortunately, Mr. He didn’t know how to cherish her!
Xu Xingran was indeed weak and needed to nourish her body.
Her curse wasn’t that she couldn’t curse He Hansheng.
But it was that cursing him would come with a price.
Even though she no longer loved He Hansheng as much as she did before.
In fact, she could say she didn’t love him anymore.
You can’t curse someone you’ve loved.
Xu Xingran slurped down the bowl of porridge in no time.
Setting it down, she gave Mrs. Chen a sweet smile.
“Thank you, Mrs. Chen, you’ve worked hard!”
Mrs. Chen felt her heart break for her.
After going through such a big ordeal, she could still smile.
Mrs. Chen said gently, “You rest well and take care of your body. Nothing is more important than your health.”
Xu Xingran nodded.
Of course, she needed to take care of her health.
Because she had a tough battle ahead.
She had figured it out.
She came to the capital with a clean slate, and she wouldn’t leave with a tarnished one.
Since everyone believed she was the one who drugged He Hansheng, she had to expose the real culprit.
The private room wasn’t that big.
There weren’t that many people.
There were only a few people who could have drugged him.
She thought back carefully.
She narrowed it down to three suspects.
*
When Lu Juan arrived at the private room, He Hansheng was already downing glass after glass of wine.
Lu Juan was the heir to the Lu family, a long-time friend of the He family, and a close friend of He Hansheng for many years.
He Hansheng had an aura of aloofness and coldness that kept people at bay.
While Lu Juan exuded a gentle and inclusive warmth.
Both were true power players in the capital, but they gave off completely different vibes.
He Hansheng was an untouchable, aloof flower on a high cliff.
Lu Juan was a gentle and warm breeze, but he was also untouchable, in his own way.
Lu Juan smiled slightly, his tall figure settling beside him.
“What’s wrong? Drowning your sorrows? That’s not like you, He Hansheng!”
He Hansheng ignored him, instead finishing the glass of whiskey he had just poured in one gulp.
He couldn’t shake off the image of Xu Xingran’s eyes filled with hatred.
For the first time, he experienced a feeling of suffocation in his chest.
Palpitations.
A feeling of unease.
Lu Juan shrugged, leisurely pouring him another drink.
The moment the drink was poured, He Hansheng downed it in one go.
Lu Juan said calmly, “Your stomach isn’t good, drink less, be careful your wife nags you again.”
The “wife” he referred to, of course, was Xu Xingran.
He Hansheng’s hand paused.
He poured himself another drink.
He downed it in one go.
When he put down the glass, he did it with force, slamming it on the coffee table, making a loud noise.
“She won’t.”
His voice was muffled.
A little angry.
A little helpless.
Lu Juan naturally steered the conversation towards Xu Xingran, raising an eyebrow.
Everyone knew about Xu Xingran and He Hansheng.
The engagement was canceled, such a grand engagement ceremony, canceled just like that.
The day the engagement was canceled, Xu Xingran left the capital.
Everyone was betting on how long it would take her to return.
Even he gambled.
Almost everyone in the capital placed a bet, and his was the longest.
He bet ten days.
Others were betting one day, two days, three days.
No one went over five days.
So many people bet, the stakes weren’t big, but it was a topic of conversation.
So many people were watching He Hansheng!
And today, He Hansheng brought her back.
It was quite a surprise, actually.
Everyone thought Xu Xingran would come back on her own accord, all smiles.
But instead, He Hansheng went to pick her up himself.
Rumor has it he carried her off the plane the whole way.
None of that matters.
What matters is that Lu Juan won.
Xu Xingran had been gone for half a month.
But because he bet the longest and closest to the actual time.
So he won.
Lu Juan tentatively asked, “Is she really angry this time?”
He Hansheng’s handsome brows furrowed.
He had been feeling very depressed these past few days because of Xu Xingran, so he subconsciously asked Lu Juan beside him.
“It’s just an engagement party, is it worth getting angry about?”
Lu Juan shrugged.
“Who knows? If you think it’s not a big deal, then it’s not a big deal, but my sister at home, she’s been cursing you for half a month.”
Lu Juan has a younger sister, Lu Sisi, who is spoiled and willful, very few people in the capital can catch her eye.
Xu Xingran, a country girl, somehow did, and became good friends with her.
For the past half month, Lu Sisi has been cursing He Hansheng as a scumbag whenever she gets the chance.
She’s been doing it for half a month straight.
And it looks like she’s going to continue.
In all of the capital, probably only Lu Sisi would stand up for Xu Xingran, feeling that she doesn’t deserve this treatment.
He Hansheng’s face didn’t show any emotion, but he poured himself another glass of wine.
Then, his voice laced with gritted teeth, he said, “She wants to break up with me!”
Lu Juan was surprised.
Xu Xingran wants to break up?
After seven years!
He turned his head and looked at He Hansheng in confusion, “Isn’t this a good thing?”
He Hansheng looked up, his gaze cold and piercing, fixed on Lu Juan, his anger burning fiercely.
Lu Juan spread his hands.
“Don’t look at me like that, isn’t this what you want? Xu Xingran is not from our world, are you really going to marry her? Playing around for a few years is enough, if you really want to get married, you should find someone from a similar background, Xia Qingqing would be a good choice.”
What Lu Juan said was true.
It was the truth.
The only thing Xu Xingran had going for her was her beauty.
She was very beautiful.
Beautiful enough to be a goldfinch.
But to marry her home… she wasn’t good enough.
He Hansheng called out to him coldly, “Lu Juan!”
