…
Su Mo didn’t continue climbing the stairs. Once she was sure that Lu Ziye wouldn’t follow her, she took the elevator up.
In the hospital room upstairs.
When Su Mo entered, Su Ailian was lying alone on the bed, appearing to be asleep. However, the moment Su Mo walked in, she opened her eyes.
“You’re here, Mo Mo.”
“Mm, Granny, are you hungry? I’ll make you something to eat right away.”
“It’s fine, no need to rush. I’m not hungry yet. Have you eaten?”
“I already ate.”
Su Mo was busy preparing some porridge for her while looking around the room. When she first came in, she thought the caregiver was in the bathroom, but after a while, she still hadn’t seen her.
“Where’s the caregiver, Granny?”
“I sent her away!” Su Ailian replied, somewhat displeased.
“Huh? What happened? Did she do something wrong?” Su Mo thought for a moment, then gently frowned at Su Ailian, “You’re not worried about the money again, are you? Granny, that caregiver is from the hospital, you don’t need to worry about the cost!”
“No!” Su Ailian felt extremely guilty. She had only just learned that this was a VIP room, which must be very expensive. The little money Mo Mo worked so hard to earn was all being spent on her.
“Mo Mo, after you left, Aunt Li called me. She heard I had surgery and asked if she could come over to help.”
“You know, in the countryside, when winter comes, there’s no more farm work to do, and everyone’s at home with nothing to do. She said if I paid her a little less, she would come take care of me. She’d be more dedicated than those caregivers, don’t you think?”
Su Mo’s eyes suddenly lit up. “Really? Aunt Li is willing to come?”
“Yes, that’s why I asked the caregiver to leave.”
Su Mo smiled. “That’s more like it. I thought you were just being stingy again. When is Aunt Li coming?”
“She’ll be here tomorrow.”
“Mm!”
After Su Mo fed Su Ailian and cleaned up a little, she went to the bathroom and brought out a basin of warm water to help Su Ailian clean up. After finishing, she closed the door and went to take a shower.
After showering, she washed her undergarments in the bathroom and then put on a nightgown.
The heating in the room was quite good, and Su Mo had spent a while in the sealed bathroom, so when she came out, her nightgown collar was still slightly open.
Her hair was wet and dripping down in messy strands.
“Granny, what time is Aunt Li coming tomorrow? I’ll go…”
However, before she could finish her sentence, she opened the door, glanced outside, and immediately slammed it shut again with a loud “bang.”
Su Mo leaned against the door for a couple of seconds, then touched her forehead, confirming that she wasn’t running a fever and that it wasn’t a hallucination.
What was Professor Lu doing outside?
And more importantly…
Su Mo quickly ran to the mirror, staring at herself. She had only wiped her face hurriedly, and now her hair was a complete mess.
She frowned and lightly knocked on her forehead. Why didn’t she take a moment to fix her hair before going outside?
Also…
With resignation, Su Mo reached for her chest. The two buttons on her nightgown were still unbuttoned. While it wasn’t revealing anything too crucial, still…
It was enough to be embarrassing.
“It’s fine, it’s fine. It was so quick, he probably didn’t see anything!” Su Mo muttered to herself, gently patting her face with her hands, trying to calm herself down.
Lu Qingze had come after work to pick up Lu Zining.
He didn’t expect that while the little one had been there for a while, he still hadn’t seen Su Mo. So, he had to search for her.
Outside, when Lu Zining saw Su Mo coming out, he was so excited that he almost rushed over.
But before he could move, Su Mo slammed the door shut again with a “bang.”
The little bun blinked his big eyes at the door that Su Mo had just slammed, then turned to look at Lu Qingze, his eyes filled with disapproval and disdain.
“I told you not to come, look, you scared Auntie! Auntie doesn’t like you. You should leave so Auntie isn’t afraid to come out.”
Lu Qingze had naturally noticed how Su Mo had hurriedly gone back inside as soon as she came out.
She was like a mouse seeing a cat.
A smile appeared in his eyes as he lightly patted the back of Lu Zining’s head. “Maybe it’s because you’re not welcome?”
“Impossible! Auntie said she likes me that day!”
“Then why did she leave without waiting for you?”
“That was an accident!”
Lu Qingze smiled but didn’t say anything more. His eyes stayed fixed on the closed bathroom door, and a complicated look passed through them.
However, the rare warmth in his eyes showed that his mood wasn’t as bad as it could have been.
“Mo Mo probably didn’t expect you two to come, and in her rush, she didn’t have time to fix herself. Don’t mind it. Go ahead, sit down.”
Su Ailian couldn’t move in bed, and the father and son were arguing at the head of her bed. She couldn’t interrupt. Now that they were quiet, she hurried to speak up and defend Su Mo.
Though her tone was calm, her gaze toward the father and son was full of curiosity.
How did Mo Mo get to know people like them?
She had always believed that Mo Mo was an independent and self-loving person, but after hearing the sarcastic tone of the caregiver earlier, Su Ailian couldn’t help but wonder more. Who were these two? How did they know Mo Mo? And what kind of relationship did they have with her that made them come here so late at night?
She wanted to ask them, but when she opened her mouth, she decided it was better to ask Mo Mo directly. Some things she felt were better left unsaid for now.
…
In the bathroom, Su Mo had finally calmed down. She quickly tidied herself up, dried her hair, and came out of the bathroom.
Her face still had a faint pink hue, but her expression had returned to normal, and the earlier panic was gone from her eyes.
However, when she saw Ning Ning standing next to Lu Qingze, she froze for a second.
Earlier, in her panic, she had only noticed Lu Qingze, but now, seeing Ning Ning there, she was shocked. How was he here? Was he acquainted with Professor Lu?
“Auntie!”
As soon as Ning Ning saw Su Mo, he rushed over to her.
“Ning Ning,” Su Mo crouched down, smiling as she caught him. “What are you doing here?”
“I came with my dad to see Auntie.”
Dad? Su Mo looked blankly at Professor Lu, still sitting on the couch.
It was only then that she realized, Ning Ning was Professor Lu’s son!?
So, Professor Lu helped her because she had helped Ning Ning?
Was that it? Professor Lu had helped her because of Ning Ning. In that case, she hadn’t received help for nothing.
Thinking about this, Su Mo sighed in relief.
Author Notes:
Su Mo: “So it was because of Ning Ning that he helped me. Ning Ning is my savior, so cute, Auntie loves you~”
Lu Qingze: “…Again misunderstood, and my credit stolen. I’m so wronged, but I won’t say a word!”
Jiu Jiu (with a kind face): “Good son, if you’re smart, never speak up.”
Lu Qingze: …
