When Uncle Zhong arrived, he immediately recognized Su Mo as the one who had saved their young master.
The car stopped in front of her, and Uncle Zhong rolled down the window.
“Miss, where are you headed? Let me give you a ride.”
Su Mo looked at him with some suspicion, instinctively taking two steps back, thinking another reckless person had shown up.
“Little girl, don’t you recognize me?”
Uncle Zhong said, then opened the door and stepped out of the car.
“You were the one who saved our young master.”
Hearing this, Su Mo suddenly remembered.
“So it’s you.” Su Mo felt a surge of excitement in her heart. Could it be that fate had brought her to meet someone familiar here?
“I can’t believe I didn’t recognize you earlier.”
Uncle Zhong chuckled. “The lighting inside was dim. So, where are you going? It’s quite late, and it’s not safe for a young lady to be out alone. Let me take you there, as a way to repay your kindness to our young master.”
“Then, thank you so much.”
Su Mo didn’t hesitate and got into Uncle Zhong’s car right away.
Once Uncle Zhong’s car left, Lu Qingze’s car, which had been parked nearby, slowly started up. It turned the corner and drove down a street lined with luxurious villas, Rong Jing Road.
The car’s heater was turned up high, and once Su Mo got in, her previously frozen feet suddenly began to ache with sharp pain. Along with that, her lower abdomen began to hurt again.
Su Mo frowned, curling up a little, and instinctively raised her feet off the carpet below her.
The car’s floor was completely covered with carpet, which felt soft and comfortable, but when she got in, her foot had stepped right into an imprint. So now, she raised her foot off the floor.
“Miss, why are you going so far at this hour?”
“An elderly family member had some trouble. I’m really sorry to trouble you.”
“No need to thank me. Just call me Uncle Zhong. In fact, I should be the one thanking you. If you hadn’t saved our young master, we wouldn’t know what could have happened.”
After saying that, Uncle Zhong glanced in the rearview mirror and noticed Su Mo’s unusual sitting posture. He suddenly remembered when he had come to pick up Su Mo earlier—she wasn’t wearing shoes.
That was when he understood why his master had asked him to bring slippers.
There were no women in the house, and at this hour, it was unrealistic to find a pair of women’s cotton shoes that would fit her. From the looks of it, she seemed to be in a hurry, so slippers were the best option.
Slowing the car down a little, Uncle Zhong handed the slippers to Su Mo.
“There are some women’s slippers in the car. They’ve never been worn. If Miss Su doesn’t mind, you can wear them for now.”
“I don’t mind! Thank you, Uncle Zhong.”
Su Mo gratefully accepted the slippers, bending down to put them on. Her feet, which had been frozen stiff and aching, sent sharp pain as she wore the slippers. It took a while, but gradually, they began to warm up, and the pain in her lower abdomen seemed to ease as well.
Uncle Zhong glanced at Su Mo’s smile in the rearview mirror and couldn’t help but smile too.
This girl was really beautiful, especially when she smiled—so sweet, it made one’s heart calm down.
The most important thing was that she had a kind heart. No wonder his master had asked him to specially pick her up late at night.
They arrived in Liu Lin Village three hours later.
After getting out of the car, Su Mo quickly thanked Uncle Zhong before rushing back to her grandmother’s house.
“Grandma!”
Su Mo pushed the door open. In the dim room, the elderly woman lay in bed, her face pale, her brows furrowed, and sweat beading on her forehead, showing how much pain she was in.
Even so, when Su Mo entered, the old woman still tried to get up from the bed.
“Mo Mo, why are you back so late?”
At that moment, Aunt Li, who was sitting by the bed, scolded her lightly. “You’re like this, and you didn’t tell Mo Mo? How could you not tell her?”
“Mo Mo, I was out playing mahjong and came back late. When I passed by your house, I heard some noise from your yard. At first, I thought it was a thief, but then it sounded like your grandma’s voice, like she was calling for help.”
“I felt something wasn’t right, so I immediately came in. I found your grandma lying in the yard, her body frozen stiff. She had fallen and couldn’t get up. I don’t know how long she’d been lying there.”
“That area where she fell was all frozen. I think the ice made her slip. I quickly got someone to help her up and called the village doctor.”
“Then she complained that I made a big deal out of it, worrying that you would find out and get anxious. Do you think this is something I should keep from you?”
“Grandma is just afraid I’ll worry. She didn’t mean to blame you, Aunt Li. You did the right thing. Thank you so much, and sorry for the trouble. Please don’t take it to heart.”
“Don’t worry, I won’t. We’ve been neighbors for so many years. I understand her. She’s just worried about you.”
Su Mo nodded. “Aunt Li, what did the village doctor say?”
At this point, Aunt Li sighed.
“Your grandma is old. After falling, it’s not easy for her to recover. The village doctor’s skills are limited, and he didn’t dare to do much. He said it’s better to send her to the town’s hospital.”
Su Mo bit her lip and nodded, feeling anxious inside, though she forced herself to remain calm on the outside.
“The town hospital probably won’t be enough. She needs to go straight to the city’s hospital, and the sooner, the better.”
Her grandma was nearly 70 years old. Such pain was a kind of torment that drained life.
“Aunt Li, could you keep an eye on her for a while? I’ll go find a car.”
Outside, after Su Mo entered, Uncle Zhong called Lu Qingze.
“Sir, Miss Su has been dropped off.”
Hundreds of miles away, in Villa 8 of Rong Jing Garden, Lu Qingze had just finished his shower. Holding his phone in one hand, he leisurely dried his hair with a towel.
His black silk pajamas hung loosely on his body, the collar slightly open. Water droplets slid down from his head, tracing the contours of his strong chest muscles before slipping inside his pajamas, giving off a seductive vibe.
“How is the situation?” After finishing with his hair, he tossed the towel aside and sat on the sofa to ask.
“It seems Miss Su has a family member who’s ill. She’s from a remote village in Yan Jiao City, and even the taxi driver didn’t want to go there.”
He paused for a moment, then hesitated before adding, “It seems Miss Su has twisted her foot.”
After Uncle Zhong finished speaking, there was silence on the other end of the line.
“Should I go back, sir?”
“Wait a little longer.”
“Yes, sir.”
Uncle Zhong replied and was about to hang up when he heard Lu Qingze say, “The medicine Ning Ning used the last time she sprained her ankle should still be in the storage compartment.”
“Understood, sir.”
Author Notes:
Su Mo: Thank you, Uncle Zhong.
Uncle Zhong: No need to thank me. If anyone should be thanked, it’s our master.
Su Mo: Your master? Who is that?
Uncle Zhong: The one you flirted with earlier.
Su Mo suddenly realized: Oh~ it’s…
Uncle Zhong nodded excitedly.
Su Mo: Old Ma!
Uncle Zhong: …
Please allow me two minutes to mourn for our master.
