A strange and indescribable feeling of discomfort gradually spread in Rong Yi’s heart.
He frowned and turned the bottle around to show Chen Keyao. “It says it’s for Alpha use only.”
“Yeah,” Chen Keyao still seemed confused. “What’s the matter?”
“Can I use it too?” Rong Yi asked.
Chen Keyao looked a bit puzzled. “You mind that I used it?”
This kind of external spray didn’t even touch the skin. To someone who had just swapped saliva with the other person, it really shouldn’t be an issue.
Rong Yi felt like something wasn’t quite right, but he couldn’t pinpoint exactly what it was.
“Of course not,” he patiently continued to explain, “but it says it’s for Alpha use only. Can I still use it?”
Chen Keyao also furrowed his brows, staring at him with a slightly blank expression, as if he couldn’t understand what Rong Yi was getting at.
Suddenly, a terrible thought flashed through Rong Yi’s mind, given how many times he had been mistaken since his secondary gender differentiation.
He swallowed. “I’m asking… does this work for Omegas too?”
Chen Keyao kept the same confused expression, looking at him, his mouth slightly open but no words coming out.
“An inhibitor spray meant for Alphas wouldn’t work on me, right?” Rong Yi continued.
Chen Keyao blinked and then suddenly laughed. He raised his hand and lightly tapped Rong Yi on the nose, saying, “Stop messing with me.”
Unfortunately, Rong Yi couldn’t manage a smile.
He spoke with difficulty, “…You thought… I was an Alpha too?”
Chen Keyao’s expression immediately stiffened. “You’re not?”
For a moment, Rong Yi couldn’t find the words.
He almost doubted that Chen Keyao was an Omega himself, but the inhibitor spray in his hand dismissed that possibility.
Seeing the conflicted expression on Rong Yi’s face but no words coming out, Chen Keyao’s eyes widened. “Wait, are you saying… you’re an Omega?”
After all, Beta pheromones are difficult to detect.
Rong Yi didn’t even know what kind of expression to show. “Didn’t you see my ID card?”
Chen Keyao seemed to be trying hard to recall something. After a long while, he frowned and said, “…I was just looking at your photo.”
Rong Yi wanted to mention that his second gender was also filled out in his WeChat profile, but he figured this guy probably hadn’t looked at it carefully, so he swallowed the words back.
He pulled his ID card from his pocket and held it in front of Chen Keyao.
“Here,” he looked at Chen Keyao. “I wasn’t joking. If I were really an Alpha, how could you think I smell sweet?”
This was basic common sense.
No wonder Chen Keyao had been so nervous earlier, repeatedly asking if Rong Yi was uncomfortable with his pheromones.
Alphas are very sensitive to the scent of their own kind, and they instinctively reject it. Releasing pheromones to the same gender is practically a challenge.
“You’ve thought I was an Alpha all this time?” Rong Yi asked.
Chen Keyao didn’t answer. He subconsciously took another sniff, and then his face turned pale.
There were still traces of Rong Yi’s pheromones lingering in the enclosed space, which should be attractive to any Alpha.
But the same Chen Keyao who had passionately said earlier that he found the scent sweet now turned pale and suddenly opened the car door, immediately jumping out and running to the corner of the parking lot. He leaned against the wall, bending over.
Rong Yi, who was still in the car, was utterly confused. After hesitating for a moment, he got out of the car and followed him. As he approached, he realized that Chen Keyao was dry-heaving.
Rong Yi was dumbfounded. “What’s wrong with you?”
Just half a minute earlier, when he realized the huge misunderstanding between them, he hadn’t been particularly flustered.
Chen Keyao had mistaken his gender but still liked him. So after learning that he was actually an Omega, he should feel relieved, right? At least now they wouldn’t have to worry about pheromone issues anymore, and for someone like Chen Keyao, who liked kids, this should ease some concerns too.
But now, watching Chen Keyao retching non-stop, Rong Yi realized that his assumption that Omegas naturally belong with Alphas was a huge blind spot in his thinking.
Chen Keyao hadn’t mistaken him for an Alpha and liked him regardless.
Some people are simply born only liking the same gender.
No wonder Chen Keyao had been so cautious and afraid of rejection while pursuing him! Any ordinary Alpha being pursued by another Alpha might have been furious.
Chen Keyao, having apparently skipped dinner, dry-heaved for a long time without throwing up anything, but he definitely looked like he was suffering.
After straightening himself up, he wiped his mouth forcefully and looked at Rong Yi.
When he spoke, his tone was completely different from before. “Why didn’t you say something sooner?”
“I thought you knew!” Rong Yi was extremely annoyed at being blamed. “You were staring at my ID card back then—who would’ve known you were only looking at the photo? And you didn’t ask me either!”
“I…” Chen Keyao seemed annoyed as well. “You look like this, who would think to question it?”
This was practically an insult to his entire existence.
Rong Yi had been mistaken for an Alpha many times in his life, but never had it felt as frustrating as it did at that moment.
He was getting angry. “You’re the one who’s blind, how is that my fault?”
Chen Keyao stared at him, saying nothing.
“And… is it that bad?” Rong Yi suddenly felt a wave of frustration. “You just…”
…said I smelled sweet.
But before he could finish, Chen Keyao seemed to remember something, and his face turned pale again. He leaned against the wall, retching once more.
Rong Yi was speechless.
He had scared off countless Alphas in his life, but this was the first time he had made someone throw up.
Chen Keyao, who still couldn’t throw up anything, eventually just squatted down. Rong Yi vaguely heard him curse under his breath.
“I knew it was too good to be true,” Chen Keyao said, “…Don’t come too close; if I smell you again, I’ll puke.”
He glanced up at Rong Yi as he spoke, his expression a complete mess.
Rong Yi felt a surge of anger.
“Do you have some kind of disease?” he angrily pointed at Chen Keyao. “How come you didn’t puke when you were hugging and kissing me earlier?”
Chen Keyao held his mouth. “Please stop talking…”
Rong Yi was so mad he nearly kicked him.
But at the last second, he remembered that Chen Keyao was physically strong. If this frustrated gay guy got embarrassed and fought back, he’d be in real trouble.
Still, the rage inside him was too much to bear. He stepped back, raised the small bottle of inhibitor spray in his hand, and angrily hurled it at Chen Keyao’s head.
Chen Keyao’s reflexes were lightning-fast. Even after dry-heaving, he quickly dodged to the side.
The bottle bounced off the ground, rolled forward, and started leaking.
Chen Keyao stared at the bottle for a moment before getting up and walking over to it. Then, he raised his foot and gave the bottle a hard kick.
The leaking bottle disappeared in an instant, flying who knows where, completely vanishing from their sight.
“…So what are you saying now?” Rong Yi looked at him. “You only liked the version of me you thought was an Alpha? Now that you know I’m an Omega, you’re disgusted? Disgusted enough to throw up?”
Chen Keyao lowered his head, saying nothing.
Rong Yi continued, “You’re breaking up with me, aren’t you?”
“You saw it yourself,” Chen Keyao said. “I can’t physically handle it.”
“Bullshit!” Rong Yi was furious. “I think you’re just mentally ill!”
Chen Keyao also seemed to be getting mad. “You’ve been deceiving me all this time, and you’re calling me mentally ill?”
“You’re the one who’s blind!”
“Tell me who could possibly tell just by looking that you’re not an Alpha?” Chen Keyao raised his voice. “If you were even a Beta, I could accept it. Who would expect someone like you to be an Omega?”
Rong Yi, so angry he couldn’t think straight, lashed out. “How was I supposed to know you were a pervert? If you have mental issues, stop causing trouble for others!”
“Hah,” Chen Keyao chuckled dryly. “Liking the same gender makes me a pervert? Makes me mentally ill? Wow, living in modern society, I’m amazed someone like you can still exist.”
“Don’t you dare accuse me of being narrow-minded,” Rong Yi pointed at him. “Being gay isn’t a disease, but you definitely have issues!”
Without waiting for Chen Keyao to respond, he turned around and stormed towards the exit. “Screw you! I’m done. These past few days must have been some kind of sick joke.”
From behind came Chen Keyao’s voice, usually so refined and polite in front of him.
“A sick joke? Are you serious?” he shouted at Rong Yi’s retreating figure. “You even have the equipment for that?”
“I…”
Rong Yi was so angry he was at a loss for words, but he knew he couldn’t win in a fight, and the frustration in his chest was unbearable. So, he stomped over to Chen Keyao’s car and kicked the open car door with all his might.
With a loud thud, the door caved in, and a sharp, piercing alarm blared out.
“Are you insane?” Chen Keyao yelled from behind.
Rong Yi turned around and shouted back, “You’re the last person who gets to say that to me!”
.
That kick was so hard that when Rong Yi got into a taxi after leaving the parking lot, his foot was still aching.
But that bit of physical discomfort was nothing compared to the anger raging in his heart.
In fact, it wasn’t just anger. His feelings were too complicated to describe—there was frustration, helplessness, and even regret.
He must’ve been cursed for eight lifetimes to have met someone as spectacularly idiotic as Chen Keyao.
Was it his fault that he didn’t look like an Omega? He had never intentionally hidden his gender, and he had even gone out of his way to try and clarify it in case of misunderstandings. How could anyone blame him for this fool being so blind?
It was still the same person, the same face, the same body, the same insides. But just because of gender, he was being treated so differently. And this guy had the nerve to call him narrow-minded?
Thinking back to all the romantic misfortunes he had suffered because of his appearance over the years, Rong Yi’s eyes reddened with frustration.
He felt like that kick to the car door had been way too light.
It wasn’t nearly enough to vent the anger in his heart.
Less than half an hour ago, he had thought he was the happiest person in the world. Now, thinking back on everything he had done with Chen Keyao in the car, Rong Yi suddenly felt a wave of nausea himself.
He opened the taxi window, but still felt queasy. Unfortunately, the cooling oil handkerchief he used to carry wasn’t in his pocket.
All of this was that trash Chen Keyao’s fault.
Grinding his teeth in anger, Rong Yi silently cursed him to live a lonely life forever.
