I’ve come down with a strange illness.
Every time I see my roommate, Lin Yufei, I have an episode.
It’s a bizarre condition where I start lactating whenever I see Lin Yufei.
After secretly moving out of the dorm, my symptoms improved somewhat.
Just when I thought I was getting better, Lin Yufei, who had returned to the country earlier than expected, cornered me.
He buried his head in my chest.
“Why cure it? I like it very much.”
I took out my key, ready to unlock the door.
Before the key even touched the lock, I could hear the conversation inside, filtering through the door.
“Do you guys think Jiang Yun is a freak?” It was my roommate Chen Qi who spoke first.
Then Lu Wei’s voice followed. “I think so. Just hearing him talk makes me feel sick. His skin is even fairer than a girl’s; maybe he’s got some weird disease.”
“Stop talking, he might come back and hear us,” said Yu Yuanzhe, the class monitor, as the last to speak.
I stood frozen at the door. Although I was planning to switch dorms, I always thought we got along well. They always smiled and welcomed me—how could they…
As I was thinking, someone approached from behind and kicked the door open. A loud bang echoed, but before the noise erupted, he kindly covered my ears.
The three inside were startled and instinctively stood up.
Lin Yufei’s face was grim, his gaze sweeping over them.
“Is this what your parents taught you about how to behave?”
His voice was cold, laced with sarcasm.
“You all living is a waste of food.”
He walked straight to my bed, opened the cabinet, and took out a suitcase.
“Good thing you’re moving out; no need to live in this trash pile.”
“What did you say?” Lu Wei reacted first and shoved Lin Yufei from behind.
“Who are you calling trash?”
Though he wasn’t as tall as Lin Yufei, he was broader and had a slight advantage in size.
“I’m calling you trash. Bad character, and deaf too.”
Lin Yufei turned around, locking eyes with him.
Lu Wei swung a fist at Lin Yufei, but he easily sidestepped it.
“You’re not even worth it.”
Lin Yufei smirked, his face filled with provocation.
“Who are you calling worthless?!”
Furious, Lu Wei swung two more punches, both of which Lin Yufei dodged.
“Aren’t you a black belt in Taekwondo and trained in MMA? Why aren’t you fighting back?”
Lu Wei felt humiliated.
“Because trash isn’t worth it.”
Lin Yufei shot back with a calm, mocking tone.
Lu Wei tried to lash out again but was held back by Chen Qi.
“Forget it, you can’t beat him. Let him be.”
Lin Yufei shrugged at Lu Wei.
“You see, he’s got a clearer head than you.”
Then he turned his gaze past the three of them and onto me.
“Stop staring, come pack your things.”
I snapped out of my daze and quickly ran over to him.
“You’re leaving all this stuff behind?” Lin Yufei pointed to a pile of nearly new personal items.
“Yeah.”
I nodded.
“I don’t want to see this trash anymore.”
Lin Yufei pursed his lips.
“What a waste.”
Before I could respond, he hoisted the suitcase and walked out.
I took my keys, placed them on the table, and turned to follow him, only to be stopped by Yu Yuanzhe.
“Jiang Yun. Don’t move out.”
There was a pleading look in his eyes, but we both knew the real reason.
I removed his hand from my wrist.
“Yu Yuanzhe, you’re nineteen now. You can work part-time and support yourself. I’ll tell my mom you don’t need financial assistance anymore. I wish you the best of luck in the future.”
Without looking back, I walked out of the dorm.
Following Lin Yufei, even the damp air in the hallway felt refreshing.
Lin Yufei was a year ahead of me.
The first time I saw him, there were two police officers standing next to him. I thought they were there to arrest him, but it turned out they were scolding him for using excessive force when stopping some thugs.
He nodded obediently, but the defiance on his face was unmistakable.
I fell for him at first sight, but I’ve always been a little afraid, unsure of his orientation. I feared he’d punch me if I confessed.
But it didn’t matter—my mom would handle it.
Ever since my mom, as an investor, visited the school and noticed the not-so-innocent looks I gave Lin Yufei, she took it upon herself to have my dorm assignment changed.
I protested verbally, but inside, I was overjoyed.
Lost in thought, I suddenly bumped into his solid back.
“Ouch,” I whispered softly.
“That hurt?”
He unlocked the door.
“You’re in for much more pain later.”
I was still trying to figure out what he meant when the door swung open, and a rush of his scent hit me.
His dorm was much tidier than I’d expected for an athlete’s room.
“I heard you like cleanliness, so I tidied up.”
He pointed to the bed by the window.
“It gets good sunlight and fresh air; you can sleep there.”
I looked toward the bed he pointed to, noticing a pair of dumbbells underneath.
“They’re mine. Forgot to move them.”
Lin Yufei walked over, bent down, and picked up the dumbbells.
The sunset cast a glow over his muscular back, highlighting his defined physique.
My throat tightened, and I swallowed.
He moved the dumbbells to the bed by the door.
“So you’re giving me your bed?”
I was deeply touched.
Lin Yufei didn’t seem like the type who took care of people, but the fact that he did this for me—didn’t that mean he at least didn’t dislike me?
After all, if he was only doing this for my mom’s sake, he could’ve just let me take any empty bed.
That was the bed Lin Yufei had slept in for two years!
“It’s not my bed; it’s school property. Your mom paid for it, so you deserve the best spot.”
Lin Yufei explained indifferently.
I mumbled an “oh.”
So, in the end, I was just overthinking.
The air grew awkwardly quiet until he broke the silence.
“If you feel bad, you can treat me to a meal.”
He said this, his gaze never leaving me.
I quickly nodded.
“Of course! What do you want to eat?”
I looked up and met his eyes directly.
My face flushed slightly.
