“But without Xiao Fei here these past few days, I haven’t had the pleasure of eating.”
After eating Lin Yufei’s cooking, both my mom and I could visibly see we had gained weight.
“Why don’t you go with him?” I joked with her.
She waved her hands repeatedly. “I’m not going. I have a project to discuss. You two have fun.”
As she spoke, she gave me a knowing look. “Since you’re not here, I’ve let him stay.”
She picked up a piece of roasted goose. “You can still let him come when I’m here.”
I looked at my mom. Ever since her divorce, she had been carefully considering my feelings. But how could I possibly stand in the way of her happiness?
When my dad couldn’t accept that I liked boys, he secretly drugged me with sleeping pills, tied me up, and tried to persuade my mom to have another “normal” child. In the end, my mom had to confront him, demanding he reveal my whereabouts, and the next day, she divorced him.
My dad knelt outside the civil affairs bureau begging her not to ruin their years of love over an “abnormal” child.
My mom pushed his hand away and said something I would never forget: “The person he likes may change, and even their gender may change. But the one thing that will never change is that he is my son. I will always love him.”
My mom waved her hand in front of me. “What are you daydreaming about?”
As she spoke, she reached for the three-cup chicken on the plate. “Mom, I love you.”
I stood up and rushed over to hug her.
“Hey, if you want me to lose weight, there are better ways! I just finished my makeup!” she said, pretending to push me away, but after pulling her hand back, she held me even tighter.
Qin Jinlin’s home is in a beautiful small city in the south.
When Lin Yufei and I arrived, he was already waiting for us at the exit. “Where’s Zhang Yiqi?”
I looked around but didn’t see anyone. “He’s at the hotel,” Qin Jinlin said, taking the suitcase from Lin Yufei.
Following him, I quietly asked Lin Yufei, “Are they not doing well?”
Lin Yufei nodded slightly. I let out a regretful sigh. Not all parents are like my mom; my dad is a typical example.
Zhang Yiqi is such a lively and cheerful person, yet he has to go through this.
I suddenly felt very sorry for him. Lin Yufei patted my arm to comfort me. “He’ll be very happy to see you; he likes you.”
I nodded. However, Lin Yufei immediately took the opportunity to pull me closer, touching me in a playful manner. “But you can only like me.”
When we got to the hotel, Zhang Yiqi wasn’t in the room.
“He’s probably out playing basketball again,” Qin Jinlin said, picking up Zhang Yiqi’s clothes that were lying on the ground. “I advised him to come back, but he wouldn’t listen. Once he gets stubborn, no one can change his mind.”
His tone was filled with helplessness. “Qin Jinlin, are you backing down?” I asked, looking at him.
“What are you talking about?!” he suddenly exploded, rushing towards me, only to be shoved aside by Lin Yufei.
“Qin Jinlin, don’t you dare approach my wife!” Lin Yufei stood in front of me, pointing at him.
“My wife is here to have fun. If you keep this up, we’ll just leave.” Lin Yufei said, feeling a bit guilty. It was his idea for us to come here, and we only contacted Qin Jinlin because of it.
“Wife, let’s go. We’ll find somewhere else to play,” he said, grabbing my wrist and dragging the suitcase as he tried to leave.
I looked at Qin Jinlin, who had his head in his hands, slowly squatting down, and I couldn’t help but pull Lin Yufei back. “He didn’t mean it; don’t be like that.”
Qin Jinlin spoke, his voice trembling. “I’m also very upset, but there’s nothing I can do.”
He gradually sank to the ground. “My parents won’t accept it. In front of Zhang Yiqi, they scolded me for being shameless. They can scold me, but I don’t want him to be upset.”
As he spoke, he wiped away the tears in his eyes with the back of his hand.
I walked over to comfort him just as the room door opened. Zhang Yiqi came in, holding a basketball, drenched in sweat. “Fei Ge, Young Master, you’re here!” he shouted happily.
“Oh yeah, now we’re all here! Let’s go to the beach tonight! I want to see the sunrise!”
Qin Jinlin stood up, pretending that nothing had just happened. “I’ll go rent a car.” He said, stepping aside to make a call.
The beach at night was quiet, and the wind felt very pleasant.
Qin Jinlin was drinking bottle after bottle and was starting to feel tipsy. I leaned against Lin Yufei, tracing circles in his palm with my fingers.
He chuckled as my touch made him feel ticklish and leaned down to kiss me.
I was busy responding to his kiss, so I didn’t pay attention to what I was doing with my hands.
“Fei Ge,” Zhang Yiqi said, after helping Qin Jinlin lie down in the backseat of the car.
I hurriedly scrambled up from Lin Yufei’s embrace, looking down to smooth out his disheveled clothes.
“I feel awful,” Zhang Yiqi said, opening a bottle of alcohol but not drinking from it.
“I know,” Lin Yufei said calmly, but with a rare layer of patience in his tone. “You have to understand that not everything will develop as you wish. You need to learn to face it.”
He took my hand and addressed Zhang Yiqi. “In this matter, I’m luckier than you. But perhaps that’s because I’ve exchanged all my previous misfortunes for this. While I think it’s worth it, I don’t wish for you to have to go through the same.”
He lowered his head and placed a kiss on my forehead. “Wife, thank you.”
I pushed him away, indicating that Zhang Yiqi was still in pain, wanting him to focus on being a good listener.
“I’m not upset for myself. I feel heartbroken seeing Qin Jinlin like this,” Zhang Yiqi said, looking back at Qin Jinlin in the car.
“I don’t want to go home; I want to stay here with him, but it seems that wanting to do so is wrong.”
I looked at Zhang Yiqi, who had changed from the carefree boy I remembered into someone much more mature. People really do grow up in an instant. But if given a choice, who wouldn’t want to remain an innocent child forever?
I didn’t know what to say to comfort him. The air suddenly turned silent.
We sat there quietly, gazing at the deep, calm sea.
I don’t know how long had passed when a bright light appeared in our view. “Look, it’s the sun! The sun is rising!” Zhang Yiqi exclaimed excitedly.
“Fei Ge, Young Master, I’ve never seen the sunrise by the sea before. I’m really happy you could join me.” He said, hugging Lin Yufei and then quickly letting go to hug me.
Lin Yufei shot him a look to stop, but I took the initiative to reach out and hug him.
“Zhang Yiqi, I hope you find happiness,” I said.
Lin Yufei slowly lowered his hand. “Thank you, Young Master!” Zhang Yiqi joyfully rubbed his hands and stomped his feet like a child.
“Aren’t you going to wake him?” Lin Yufei asked, gesturing towards the car.
“Let him sleep; he’s too tired.” Zhang Yiqi stood there, his gaze fixed on the slowly rising sun.
The golden rays of sunlight gradually spread across the surface of the sea, creating an incredibly beautiful scene.
Suddenly, someone reached out from behind and embraced Zhang Yiqi.
“Wife, I love you,” Qin Jinlin said, not knowing when he had gotten up.
Tears were still clinging to his blurry eyes. “No matter how difficult it gets, we will make it through together.”
He buried his head in Zhang Yiqi’s shoulder, his voice deep but resolute.
“I feel the same,” Zhang Yiqi said, turning his head to lean against Qin Jinlin, a single tear rolling down his cheek, which he gently waved away.
“I do too.” He said, turning around and kissing Qin Jinlin.
I watched them, a smile spreading across my face.
Lin Yufei looked at me, his eyes filled with affection. He pressed another deep kiss to my forehead. “Jiang Yun, I’ll always be yours.”
