Chapter 15: You Think I Want to Come?
Two wooden logs crossed, supporting the tree trunk, with a tarpaulin laid over it and secured with tree branches and vines on top.
A wilderness-style shelter was built just like that.
Nao Nao excitedly jumped up and down, “Uncle, you’re amazing!”
Yuan Chenbi looked at their shelter, then at the broken little house in front of him, still an open-air space.
He felt envious.
However, this broken little house was built by Jiang Wanti with her own hands. Her hands were red and sore, and Yuan Chenbi didn’t dare to speak his thoughts aloud.
Jiang Xin also felt envious, running over to take a look.
“Uncle Fu, can I sleep here tonight?”
Fu Xijin hummed, “Sure.”
Jiang Xin tugged at his hand and coquettishly said, “I knew Uncle would spoil me the most.”
Yuan Jilin was a little different. He yelled loudly, “Dad! Look, Nao Nao has a house, I want one like that too!”
Yuan Jin was busy preparing salmon and didn’t have time to pay attention to him.
He usually cooked on his own when he had time, and his cooking skills were quite good.
Yi Xia stood by, helping him.
Yue Su first took the remaining two fish to the production team for recycling.
At 50 RMB per kilogram, the total was 850 RMB.
“Brother Yuan, I’ll help.”
Yuan Jin waved his hand, “It’s not busy here, just frying some fish, no big deal. You should go set up the shelter, or we’ll have nowhere to sleep tonight.”
Yi Xia quickly said, “Yue Su, if you don’t mind, you can sleep in my tent. It’s spacious.”
The tent was big enough to sleep several people, though it looked a bit loose, wasn’t windproof, and they weren’t sure if it would leak rain.
Yue Su declined her offer and borrowed an axe from Yuan Jin.
Yuan Jin was surprised, “Why don’t you wait a bit? I’ll go with you, where are you going to chop?”
Yue Su looked at her thin arms and legs. She wasn’t the type for heavy labor.
“No need, I’m not chopping the thick ones, just enough for firewood.”
She grabbed the axe and looked at Yaoyao.
“Are you staying with Mommy, or going to play with Nao Nao?”
Yaoyao, who was digging through the leaves, stood up from the ground.
“I’m staying with Mommy!”
“Then let’s chop some trees over there, not far.”
The mother and daughter had just walked a short distance when Nao Nao grabbed Fu Xijin.
“Uncle, let’s go help Aunt Su chop trees!”
Fu Xijin: “… You go by yourself.”
Nao Nao stared at him, “I can’t chop trees!”
Fu Xijin teased, “So you’re just using others?”
Nao Nao said, “You’re just sitting idle anyway!”
Jiang Wanti came over. Before she could ask Fu Xijin for help, he already stepped in to help Yue Su.
“Nao Nao, your uncle’s tired, let him rest for a bit.”
Nao Nao shook her head decisively, “No, he’s not tired!”
Jiang Wanti said, “Aunt has some bread, do you want some?”
Nao Nao looked at Yuan Chenbi, “Do you have a lot of bread?”
Yuan Chenbi honestly replied, “Not much, just four in a bag.”
Nao Nao didn’t understand, “Then why does Aunt Jiang always want to give away bread? I heard Yuan Chenbi can eat four bowls of rice in one meal. He definitely didn’t eat enough with just one bread. Even if he doesn’t eat, Jiang Xin will eat it.”
She felt that if her uncle didn’t ask her before giving out food, leaving her hungry, she would definitely be unhappy.
“Aunt Jiang, the bread is yours and Yuan Chenbi’s. You need to ask for his permission before giving it away.”
[Seriously, Nao Nao is more sensible than Jiang Wanti.]
[I could already tell Yuan Chenbi wasn’t full, but he didn’t dare say it.]
[This is already the third time Jiang Wanti has tried to give away bread without asking Yuan Chenbi or Jiang Xin.]
[Earlier, Jiang Xin complained the bread was bad, but she hasn’t eaten anything yet? Feels like she’s a little too fond of Mr. Fu.]
Fu Xijin withdrew his gaze and turned coldly.
“Nao Nao, let’s go.”
Nao Nao saw him heading towards Yue Su and quickly followed.
Chapter 15: You Think I Want to Come? (2/2)
Yue Su had already chosen a tree with the right size.
Yaoyao looked up at the tree, which seemed to have no end in sight.
She opened her mouth wide, “Mom, can you do it?”
Yue Su took off her jacket and set it aside, revealing a sleeveless shirt underneath, exposing her delicate waist and fair, exquisite collarbone that led to her swan-like neck. Who would have thought that she was about to chop down a tree?
“Chopping trees requires some skill, it’s not that hard.”
Moreover, the tree she chose wasn’t very thick.
Yue Su first told Yaoyao to step aside and determined the direction in which the tree would fall.
“Chop diagonally from above, then chop horizontally from the bottom, first making a notch.”
After making the notch, she would chop the back, leaving the cut slightly higher to ensure the tree would fall in the direction she set.
Yue Su had the theory, but when it came to practice, her movements were still a little awkward.
But fortunately, the process was smooth.
This tree wasn’t thick, but it was very tall.
A towering tree like that falling down startled Yaoyao, who exclaimed.
“Mom, you chopped it down! Mom, you’re amazing!”
Yaoyao’s praise was loud and clear.
Yue Su put the axe down and sat down, panting.
“This is way more exhausting than fishing.”
Just thinking about having to carry the tree back made Yue Su feel reluctant.
“Mom, why don’t we go back first and come back tomorrow?”
Yue Su patted her little head and kissed her chubby face.
“Recharge for a bit, and then Mom can keep working!”
Not to mention anything else, just the first prize being a small island was enough to be motivating.
As soon as she stood up, Fu Xijin’s figure appeared.
He had one hand in his pocket, glanced briefly at the tree trunks nearby, and his eyes met Yue Su’s.
[Who understands? Such a strong vibe!]
[These two are even more captivating than the leads in idol dramas!]
[Can the CP fans have a bit of common sense?]
Yue Su regained her voice, “Mr. Fu, what brings you here?”
Fu Xijin extended his hand toward her, “Give it to me.”
Yue Su calmly replied, “No need, I can manage myself.”
Fu Xijin didn’t move, maintaining his outstretched hand.
Yue Su’s eyebrows furrowed in impatience, “Mr. Fu, are you always so eager to help?”
“Do you think I wanted to come?” He answered softly.
Yue Su laughed in anger, “Then please, Mr. Fu, keep your distance.”
She knew without looking at the broadcast that any interaction between herself and Fu Xijin would definitely attract criticism.
He stared at her steadily, his voice deep and smooth, like a cool spring, blending with the night’s chill.
“Do you know there are black bears on the island?”
Yue Su met his gaze for a moment, then handed over the axe.
When Fu Xijin took it, his fingers brushed against hers.
Soft, cool, just a fleeting touch.
His expression remained unchanged as he took the axe and began working on the wood.
His fingers tightly gripped the axe, trying to hide the electric-like sensation of the brief contact.
Yue Su sat down, raising her eyes to look at his figure, which gradually blurred, overlapping.
“Mom.” Yaoyao called out lazily, yawning.
Yue Su picked her up, “Are you sleepy?”
“I’m so hungry.”
Just then, Fu Xijin finished processing the wood and called out, “Let’s go.”
They walked back to the camp one after another.
Before they even arrived, they could already smell something delicious.
Yaoyao’s stomach rumbled, and she squinted her eyes, taking a deep breath.
“It smells so good!”
Yue Su pinched her little nose, “Wait until we eat later.”
She had saved two fish, both quite large, enough to fill them up.
After Fu Xijin left, Jiang Wanti became uneasy.
Finally seeing them return, she instinctively stood up.
Her gaze fell on the wood in Fu Xijin’s hand, and she tugged the corner of her lips into a forced smile.
Fate seemed like a predetermined line, and its direction couldn’t be changed. She felt an overwhelming sense of helplessness.
“Ajin.” She stepped forward.
Fu Xijin stopped in his tracks and looked at her.
Jiang Wanti smiled gently, “Tongxin Jie called me on video. She’s waiting for you and Nao Nao to come back.”
Yue Su remained calm as she took the wood from his hand.
“Thank you, Mr. Fu. That’s all for now.”
