Chapter 6: You Can Die Before Me

Two days later, The Wonderful Island revealed two more pairs of guests.

Jiang Wanting and Shen Junzai.

Jiang Wanting is a popular rising star with over fifty million fans. She has a strong background and has been part of a few breakout works in recent years.

Her large fanbase has brought significant attention to the show.

As a result, even the official The Wonderful Island account has seen a surge in followers.

The other guest, Shen Junzai, was a more intriguing choice.

He is the president of Starlight Entertainment, which manages numerous artists, with Jiang Wanting being one of their most prominent stars.

In addition to that, he is famously known for being a scandal-free husband.

Although he mingles in the entertainment industry, he maintains a clean image with no rumors surrounding him.

Oh no, when mentioning Shen Junzai’s rumors, one must bring up Yue Su.

Before Yue Su retired from the industry, she accused Shen Junzai of using industry rules to his advantage, but the case collapsed due to lack of evidence.

At the time, she was also one of Starlight’s artists, and due to issues surrounding contract termination, she had a falling out with Shen Junzai and her then-manager, Fang Tong.

With Shen Junzai on the show, The Wonderful Island definitely gained more intrigue.

As for the final pair of guests, the producers kept it a secret.

At first, Yue Su was quite excited about The Wonderful Island, since she had a good impression of Yi Xia and Yuan Jin.

But when Jiang Wanting and Shen Junzai were revealed, she immediately regretted it.

With these two on the show, the next two weeks were bound to be anything but calm.

Yue Su glanced at the lush array of succulents on the balcony, still feeling uneasy after being away for half a month.

She took out her phone.

Yue Su: Didn’t you say this show wouldn’t attract big stars because of its low ratings?

Gu Nan: Shen Junzai is here to annoy you, I don’t get why Jiang Wanting is on the show either. Poor judgment.

Yue Su: What did Director Liang say? Who’s the final pair of guests?

Gu Nan: His lips are sealed, he won’t say a word.

Gu Nan: Whoever they are, they can’t be worse than Shen Junzai.

Yue Su thought about it and stopped asking further.

After all, it was just two weeks.

When she was with Starlight, she had no problem clashing with Shen Junzai, and now that she was no longer with Starlight, she had no reason to care about him.

The Wonderful Island was filmed on a private, undeveloped island in Country A.

The investors had provided their private island for filming.

Yue Su was to fly to Country A, meet with the production team at the airport, and then take a boat to the island.

Since it was a family show, it was not as dangerous as a true wilderness survival program.

The production team had worked hard, arriving three months ahead to prepare the set.

Once they landed, Yue Su, along with her daughter, saw the production team’s sign as they exited the airport.

The pair was striking, and as soon as the crew saw them, they approached.

“Ms. Yue, I’m Wang Qi, I’ve come to take you both to the island.”

Yue Su shook her hand. “Thank you.”

Wang Qi, not forgetting about the child, bent down and, upon seeing the little girl, was clearly taken aback by her cuteness.

While the entertainment industry had many beauties, she had never seen such an adorable child before.

Wang Qi loved collecting plush dolls and had no resistance to anything cute.

As soon as she saw the little girl, she found herself charmed, her love for her overwhelming.

“Sweetie, where are you from?”

The child giggled, flashing two dimples as she answered, “Big sister.”

Wang Qi laughed so hard her whole body shook, staring at the little dimples on the girl’s hands, feeling like she wanted to hug her and kiss her.

“Call me Auntie, I’m closer to your mom’s age.”

The little girl: “Big sister.”

Wang Qi couldn’t hold back anymore, rubbing the little girl’s face and showering her with affection.

“Ms. Yue, such a cute little baby, how did you manage to have her? I feel like I want to steal her!”

Even before the little girl appeared on camera, Wang Qi could already imagine how popular she would be.

Yue Su smiled and shook her head. “She’s a little rascal.”

Despite being so small, the little one had a lot of tricks up her sleeve.

Wang Qi, reluctant to let go of the little girl, finally decided to pick her up.

“Ms. Yue, the car the production team arranged is over there. We’ll head to the dock now.”

The dock was not far away, about a ten-minute drive.

“Li Ge, is the boat ready?” Wang Qi walked over to a man.

Li Cheng, with an impatient look, glanced up. His words were directed at Wang Qi, but his eyes were on Yue Su.

“There’s only one boat, and Teacher Jiang has already boarded. Just wait a bit.”

Wang Qi was taken aback. “Didn’t we agree to leave once everyone’s here?”

Li Cheng scoffed. “What does she think she is? Should Teacher Jiang wait for her?”

Yue Su stepped forward and said in a calm tone, “It’s fine, we’ll wait.”

Although Li Cheng’s condescending attitude was annoying, it was a common occurrence in the industry, and it was not the first time Yue Su had seen it.

She had started at a high point, and just because she hadn’t experienced it firsthand didn’t mean she hadn’t seen it before.

She didn’t mind, and Wang Qi reluctantly gave up on insisting.

However, Li Cheng seemed to have something against Yue Su.

“Who would’ve thought I’d see you back in the public eye in my lifetime.”

His face twisted with sarcasm, as if to imply she was just out here to make money off the public’s attention.

Yue Su glanced at him lightly. “If you really can’t stand me, you can die before me.”

Li Cheng choked, unable to speak.

“Do you think everyone has forgotten the things you did in the past just because a few years have passed?”

Yue Su was confused. “Did I dig up your ancestors’ graves?”

Li Cheng: “… Don’t you remember the things you did?”

Yue Su: “I think you remember pretty well. Did you hide under my bed?”

Wang Qi noticed Li Cheng’s face darkening and quickly intervened, “Let’s all be calm! Let’s all stay calm! Li Ge, why don’t you go check if Teacher Jiang has safely arrived on the island?”

Mentioning Jiang Wanting made Li Cheng even more angry.

He was a big fan of Jiang Wanting and, from her perspective, disliked Yue Su.

Ignoring Wang Qi’s intervention, he sneered with clenched jaw.

“You think just because you quit the industry, got married, and had a kid, people will forget your ugly past? Does your husband know you’re a gold-digger, scheming to become someone’s mistress?”

Yue Su shrugged. “He doesn’t know. Why don’t you ask him?”

Li Cheng was stumped, his emotions welling up in his chest and causing him to feel like he was suffocating.

The helplessness he felt was maddening.

He scoffed. “How could he not know? Is he blind or dead?”

The little girl, who had been staring up at him, blinked her soft, innocent eyes.

In her childlike voice, she said, “Uncle, my daddy’s dead.”

My daddy’s dead—

Dead—

Dead—

Her blunt and innocent statement stunned Li Cheng. He felt as though he wanted to swallow every word he had just said.

All his anger seemed to dissipate, replaced by a hollow sense of guilt.

“Yes, yes, yes… I’m sorry, Uncle didn’t know…”

The little girl blinked again and raised her small hand to pat his hand gently, her eyes full of sincerity.

“It’s okay, Uncle. Even though my daddy’s dead, I still have my mommy. Mommy will earn money to take care of me.”

Wang Qi: “…”

She couldn’t help but picture Li Cheng waking up in the middle of the night, groaning, “I should die!”
