Chapter 15
Can I Borrow A Piece Of Paper
Every room in the Discipline Hall was equipped with soundproofing arrays, and the soundproofing was highly effective. Yu Pei deliberately left a small gap in the door to stay alert to any movement outside.
Wen Shouting and Xu Muzhi had apparently snuck in, walking lightly, and deliberately lowering their voices when speaking.
At first glance, they did seem like typical villains.
However—
Yu Pei fixed her gaze on the two shadows reflected on the door and window.
The two figures sneaked around together, slightly bent over, taking a few steps forward, then retreating, almost like a dance. Occasionally, they’d deliberately pause, pretending to chirp like crickets or birds.
—
Could they make their bad intentions any more obvious?
Yu Pei sat quietly at the table, patiently waiting for them to approach.
When they were nearly at the door, she stood up, preparing to pull them in directly.
But just as she took one step, she suddenly heard two loud “thumps—.”
The two figures had collapsed to the ground at the same time.
Yu Pei: ?
She hadn’t even made a move yet!
At this moment, the candles embedded in the walls flickered.
The flames went out, and the room was suddenly plunged into total darkness.
Yu Pei froze, holding her breath and listening closely.
Suddenly! A shadow broke through the door.
The person was about eight feet tall, with a robust build.
After breaking through the door, he rushed straight towards Yu Pei.
His movements were sharp, his fists and kicks quick and decisive, each strike aimed at her face or side of the neck. The force wasn’t enough to take her life, but it was certainly difficult to deal with.
“Who are you?” Yu Pei blocked an elbow strike with her arm, tightening her other fist and aiming for his chest.
He held back, but she didn’t—she was striking to kill.
The man took the punch, but didn’t respond to her, not even a grunt of pain escaped his lips.
During the fight, Yu Pei tried her best to observe his face.
However, the room was too dim. Not only could she not make out his face, but even his clothes and appearance were hard to discern.
After more than ten exchanges, a flash of cold light suddenly appeared—
He actually pulled out a dagger and slashed toward her neck.
Yu Pei dodged, and as she moved, the porcelain bottle containing Su Zhan’s sinister aura fell from her chest.
She grabbed it back with one hand and, at the same time, channeled her spiritual energy to strike at the tip of the blade.
“Clang—!” The two collided, and the dagger couldn’t withstand the force of her powerful spiritual energy, breaking into two pieces.
The porcelain bottle was also shattered by the shockwave, leaving only a faint trace of the sinister aura that dissipated in the air.
The man was incredibly fast. The moment the dagger broke, he grabbed the pieces in his hand.
Before Yu Pei could activate her killing strike, he leaped back two steps and disappeared into the darkness.
Just as she was about to pursue him, she was tripped up by the two people blocking the doorway.
Yu Pei stumbled but quickly regained her balance.
In the blink of an eye, the shadow had completely vanished.
—
She almost forgot that there were still people on the floor.
She stared intently at the dark passage, her brows slightly furrowed.
From the moment the man appeared until now, only a brief moment had passed.
He was elusive, but it didn’t seem like he was here to kill her.
After all, he had never used spiritual techniques from start to finish, and the dagger he used was an ordinary blade, unrefined by spiritual energy.
So, did he go to the trouble of sneaking into the Discipline Hall and knocking out Wen Shouting and Xu Muzhi just to exchange a few blows?
What nonsense.
Yu Pei lowered her gaze and glanced at the two people lying curled up on the ground.
It could be considered lucky.
Regardless of who that man was, at least he helped her resolve the immediate problem.
—
Wen Shouting felt like he had just woken up from a long dream.
When he woke up again, his head was pounding—like it had been hit by something.
He groggily lifted his gaze and met Xu Muzhi’s drowsy eyes.
?
Wen Shouting’s gaze fell, and only then did he realize that they were in the Disciplinary Room.
The two of them were sitting at separate wooden desks, facing each other, with about half a foot of space between the desks.
On the table was a stack of thick paper, with a brush beside it, not yet dipped in ink.
What’s going on?
Weren’t they just in the corridor?
How did they end up here in the Disciplinary Room?
Xu Muzhi also sensed something was off.
But before he could speak, a familiar voice greeted them warmly.
“You’re awake?”
Xu Muzhi stiffened.
This voice… it sounds strangely familiar.
He turned stiffly, and saw Yu Pei sitting cross-legged in the corner.
As soon as he saw her, he remembered the chisel that had grazed his neck that day, and the sweat all over his body.
His voice trembled. “H-how… is it… is…”
“It’s you!” Wen Shouting angrily stood up, cutting him off, “I knew it was you! What dirty tricks are you playing again?!”
“Wait!” Xu Muzhi was horrified. “The person you said was causing trouble—it’s her?”
Earlier, Wen Shouting had approached him, saying someone was causing trouble and asking him to join in teaching that person a lesson.
He was used to being ordered around by this young master, so he didn’t refuse.
But he never imagined that the person would be Yu Pei.
“Yes,” Wen Shouting glared at Yu Pei, practically undressing her with his eyes in anger, “—Did you think that by hiding in the Discipline Hall, this young master wouldn’t be able to find you?!”
Yu Pei stood up and suddenly asked him, “Just the two of you?”
“What?” Wen Shouting snapped irritably.
“I mean, are you the only ones who came to the Discipline Hall—are there no other people?”
Wen Shouting sneered. “Can’t you see? For someone like you, two of us are enough to handle you.”
Yu Pei then looked at Xu Muzhi. “Are you also here to deal with me?”
Xu Muzhi shook his head. “No, Junior Sister Yu, you misunderstood. How could that be?”
Wen Shouting: ?
He glared at Xu Muzhi. “Xu, what do you mean by that?”
Yu Pei observed them back and forth.
It seemed that these two didn’t know who the person who tried to assassinate her was.
“Never mind,” she temporarily set that matter aside. “You two write a self-reflection letter. Three thousand words in one hour. Whoever finishes first can leave first.”
“Me? A self-reflection letter?” Wen Shouting was amused by her. “You’ve only just arrived at the Spirit-Taming Sect, and you’re already so fearless—Xu Muzhi, what are you—what are you doing?”
Just as he was about to turn and have Xu Muzhi give her a piece of his mind, he saw that Xu Muzhi had already started writing, his head bent low in concentration.
Not only was he writing, but he was also mumbling to himself, “Disciple Xu Muzhi, I regret not being diligent in self-improvement…”
Yu Pei reminded him, “Cross out your name and rewrite it.”
“Got it.” Xu Muzhi, very perceptive, immediately tore the paper and took another sheet. “Disciple Yu Pei, today…”
Wen Shouting was even more furious at this action.
He immediately exploded, “Xu Muzhi! Did I ask you to rewrite the self-reflection letter?”
While speaking, Yu Pei suddenly took the pen from his desk and tapped it lightly on the tabletop.
Wen Shouting: “Do you still want to join my master’s…”
Before he could finish, there was a “bang!” as the pen in Yu Pei’s hand was forcefully driven into the tabletop, leaving only half of it exposed.
“—Sit down for a while.” Wen Shouting suddenly sat down in his chair. “I’ll sit for a while.”
Yu Pei snapped off the half of the pen that was sticking out and kindly handed it to him. “Can you start writing now?”
“Xu Muzhi!” Wen Shouting suddenly yelled.
“What is it now, Young Master?” Xu Muzhi didn’t even lift his head.
He was writing very quickly, wishing his hands could stretch longer. Wen Shouting was always faster at writing than him, so he had to finish before him, writing as much as he could.
“Paper.”
“What?” Xu Muzhi was startled and looked up at him.
Wen Shouting sat up straight, took the pen from Yu Pei’s hand, but avoided looking at her as much as possible.
“Give me a piece of paper,” he paused, then asked, “How do you write ‘Yu Pei’ again?”
