Chapter 37: The Match Ends
[Congratulations, player: Martial Arts Proficiency maxed; Martial Arts Minor Accomplishment (1/10) → Martial Arts Minor Accomplishment (2/10).]
Lu Li nodded in satisfaction.
After exchanging blows with Xu Feng, he had tested his own limits and knew that, with his current level of martial arts, he could not possibly defeat Xu Feng.
The martial arts realm granted by the dating game was like the internal energy Xiaoyaozi passed to Xuzhu; although Lu Li already possessed the potential of a martial-arts expert, he still needed combat practice to convert that power into something truly his own.
Therefore Lu Li chose a Taiji clinch, letting Xu Feng feed him moves while he digested and dismantled them one by one to raise his proficiency and upgrade his martial-arts realm.
Sure enough, during this passive beating, his martial-arts realm finally advanced.
By now Lu Li understood his own muscle strength and reaction speed well enough that handling Xu Feng was no longer a problem.
“Time to end this.” Lu Li raised his head and looked at Xu Feng.
Seeing the unfathomable calm in Lu Li’s eyes, Xu Feng felt an inexplicable jolt in his heart.
“Tch, bluffing! You can’t take this kick!” Xu Feng dashed forward and swung his right leg in a flying kick at Lu Li’s chest.
Lu Li neither dodged nor retreated; he bent his front knee, twisted his waist, lifted his hips, gathered all his strength into his right fist, and then blasted out a punch.
The fist struck the sole of Xu Feng’s foot; he felt a tremendous force rush in, his thigh flashed with pain before going numb, and he staggered backward, pulling his leg in shock.
When he glanced at the back of his foot, the blood vessels bulged, revealing thick blue veins.
“What is going on? His strength increased, and he’s faster too!” Xu Feng muttered in disbelief.
Lu Li gave him no time to think; the moment Xu Feng’s gaze left his foot, Lu Li had already closed in.
The counterattack began.
Xu Feng threw a hasty punch but Lu Li blocked it with a Plowing Hand; when Xu Feng tried to shove him away, Lu Li slapped the crook of his arm with his left hand and drained the force.
Helpless, Xu Feng raised his numb right leg to kick at Lu Li, hoping to open distance.
I’ve been waiting for you to lift that leg!
Lu Li let out a low grunt, whipped up his own leg, and struck first even though he moved later; Xu Feng’s right leg was already weak, failed to withstand the clash, and bent backward with a cry of pain.
Lu Li instantly changed angle and launched a series of kicks at Xu Feng’s knee, destroying his base and sending him crashing downward.
Lu Li slipped behind him, yanked Xu Feng’s arm and held him; when Xu Feng slapped the floor to rise, Lu Li borrowed that force to flip him and booted the back of his knee from the side.
Xu Feng could barely keep his footing; with an angry roar he forced himself to grab Lu Li’s arm, turned, and tried a shoulder throw.
Lu Li punched straight into Xu Feng’s ribs, dispersing his strength again, so Xu Feng had to turn and chop at Lu Li’s shoulders with both palms like twin blades.
But with less than 30% of his strength left, how could he possibly land a hit?
Lu Li blocked the twin chops with a Plowing Hand, pressed both arms downward, and flipped his own hand over to smash Xu Feng’s chest.
Xu Feng’s stance was broken and he could not stay upright, so he kept stumbling backward.
Lu Li offered no more chances; he lunged in, front-kicked Xu Feng’s chest, seized one flailing arm with his left hand, and unleashed a combo: straight punch to the armpit, knife-hand to the neck, stomp on the toes, knife-hand to the shoulder, one-hand neck lock, and a knee to the gut.
When Xu Feng, dizzy from the blows, instinctively lifted his head, Lu Li released his right arm and whipped out a thunderous slap with his right hand.
Pa!
With that crisp crack, Xu Feng toppled to the left, his shoulder hitting the floor with a dull thud.
He covered his face and rose in a daze; after the barrage, his eyes were blank, drool dripped from the corner of his mouth, pain filled every inch of his body, and that ringing slap to his face left him utterly stupefied.
He knew he had lost… lost to a high-schooler, lost miserably, lost completely!
Above all, that final slap taught him that there is always someone stronger.
Lu Li rotated his wrist, shook off the tingling rebound from the slap, and let out a slow breath.
At this moment the watching students were utterly silent.
Strictly speaking, they were dumbstruck.
“S-Senior Xu lost?”
“And he even got slapped! So karate is this weak and Taiji is this strong!”
“Damn, our martial-arts instructor is awesome!”
“He’s still a high-schooler, truly promising at such a young age!”
The contempt they felt for Lu Li a moment ago now turned into equal amounts of flattery.
Some even fawned over Shao Kang, saying, “I knew Coach Shao wouldn’t pick a high-school student for nothing; this instructor is incredible! Coach Shao is truly farsighted!”
Yet Shao Kang could not feel happy, because Shao Linlin was mocking him by his side.
“Yayaya, once Xu Feng latches on, Lu Li will definitely lose.”
“Yayaya, I never said your little lover was weak, but he’ll still be the one who loses in the end.”
“Yayaya, If he kited and ran he might have a tiny chance, trading blows head-on guarantees defeat.”
Shao Kang’s face reddened; eyes wide, neck stiff, he insisted, “He was obviously weak and frail yesterday…”
Yesterday he was sweating buckets just fighting Shen Huan, so what happened today… it’s like he popped a blue pill and poured out nonstop damage at Xu Feng… Shao Kang was utterly perplexed.
Had Lu Li heard him, he would definitely have boasted, “I’m no longer the Lin Daiyu with 4 points of Constitution who swayed like a weak willow; I’m now Lin ‘Uproots Willows’ Daiyu with 7 points of Constitution!”
“Hohoho, 4,000 yuan, 4,000 yuan!” Shao Linlin spread her soft white palms and smugly demanded the money from Shao Kang.
“What does a high-schooler need that much cash for? Dad will save it for you and give it to you when you get into college,” Shao Kang chuckled awkwardly.
Hands on her hips, Shao Linlin retorted boldly, “With my IQ, do you really think I can get into college?”
Embarrassed, Shao Kang placed the red envelope containing 4,000 yuan in her hands.
“Woohoo, I’m rich! Lu Li earned me 4,000 yuan; I’m treating him to a meal!” Shao Linlin cheered as she ran toward Lu Li.
“I’m the one who paid, how did he ‘earn’ it for you…” Shao Kang muttered.
Hugging the Little White cat, Shao Linlin dashed toward Lu Li, but just as she was about to call him, she saw Xu Feng behind him open blood-red eyes and charge like a madman.
“Lu Li, I haven’t conceded; the match isn’t over! Don’t you leave, take my punch!”
His fist was about to smash into the middle of Lu Li’s back!
