Chapter 3
The sisters-in-law looked at each other and shook their heads.
“No.”
“A few days ago, I heard a loud thump coming from Captain Fu’s house. It sounded like something had hit someone.” Fan Fuying described it exaggeratedly: “I haven’t seen Xiao He and Nuan Nuan since then. Don’t you think it’s weird?”
The implication of her words was so direct that the sisters-in-law understood it and looked at Yan Xi.
Yan Xi seemed to have not heard Fan Fuying’s words at all. She stared straight in the direction where the bus would come, with no change in her expression.
“Nothing will happen to Xiaohe and Nuannuan, right?” asked a sister-in-law named Guo Xia.
She looked at Yan Xi as she spoke, but Yan Xi still didn’t react at all.
“Who knows. However, when Captain Fu comes back, some people may not be able to live freely anymore.” Fan Fuying said sarcastically.
Yan Xi just found it funny.
If these people really care about Fu Caihe and Nuannuan, they should rush to her house to see how the two children are doing instead of making indirect accusations and being hypocritical here.
After all, these people are no different from the original owners.
The shuttle bus drove slowly over and stopped at the boarding point, and everyone got on the bus one by one.
Fan Fuying and Guo Xia exchanged glances, and the two of them squeezed Yan Xi from the left and right, trying to take advantage of the situation to push Yan Xi to the ground.
Yan Xi noticed their intention and, using her body which was several times larger than the two of them, she exerted a lot of force and then used her elbow to knock the two of them to the ground, causing them to scream “Ouch!”
“Yan Xi! Why did you push me?” Fan Fuying sat on the ground, pointing at Yan Xi and shouting angrily.
Yan Xi had a blank expression on her face: “I didn’t push you. I was queuing to get on the bus, and I felt someone trying to cut in line and squeeze me, so I squeezed back. How did I know it was you! If I had known that Sister Fan wanted to break the rules and cut in line to get on the bus first, I would have let you go. We’re all from the same compound, so it’s okay for you to cut in line and be impolite for once, isn’t it?”
Yan Xi’s words left Fan Fuying completely speechless, and the finger that was pointing at Yan Xi began to tremble in annoyance.
Yan Xi had already boarded the bus and found a seat to sit down.
Seeing that Fan Fuying and Guo Xia were still dawdling, she kindly reminded them, “Sister Fan, Sister Guo, are you still going to town? If you are, get in the car! You want to cut in line again, and now you’re making a whole car of people wait for you. You are too shameless.”
This bus is not just for the compound; villagers from nearby villages also take this bus to go to the county.
There are quite a few villagers on the bus right now.
After hearing Yan Xi’s words, they all became dissatisfied with Fan Fuying and Guo Xia.
“Why are you dawdling? Why didn’t I see you dawdling like this when I cut in line just now?”
“Line up and get on the bus one by one. Everyone has already boarded and the bus has already left. Just because you two wanted to cut in line, a whole bus of people are waiting for you!”
“You two and this female comrade are from the same compound, why aren’t you as polite and civilized as this female comrade?”
Yan Xi agreed with the villagers’ words, nodding from time to time and echoing them: “That’s right, that’s right.”
Fan Fuying got into the car with the help of Guo Xia.
She twisted her ankle when she fell just now and hasn’t recovered yet.
As soon as she got on the car, she saw Yan Xi agreeing with the villagers and was so angry that she almost fainted.
The shuttle finally started moving again.
The roads in this era were generally dirt roads, and the buses driving on them were very bumpy, throwing people up from time to time.
About forty minutes later, the bus finally arrived in town.
When Yan Xi got off the car, she felt her buttocks aching and her head was a little dizzy.
“Sisters-in-law, where are you going?” Fan Fuying’s sisters-in-law gathered together and started chatting again.
“I’m going to the market to buy some new clothes for my children. Spring is here and it’s time to change clothes. Last year’s clothes can no longer be worn.” Fan Fuying said.
“I also want to buy some clothes for my child. Let’s go together.” Guo Xia said.
“I’m going to the market too. I’m going to buy some meat and join you.” said another sister-in-law.
Several sisters-in-law went towards the market.
Yan Xi also followed.
Fan Fuying, who was walking in the front, caught a glimpse of Yan Xi following them, and whispered to the sisters-in-law, “Sister-in-law Yan has been following us.”
“Why is she following us? Is she also going to the market to buy clothes for Xiaohe and Nuannuan?” Guo Xia said.
“Is she so kind?” Fan Fuying sneered, “She is afraid that she will either buy clothes for herself or a bunch of snacks that can’t fill her stomach.”
“Have you seen her change into a new dress every day?” said the sister-in-law named Feng Lingling, “Xiao He and Nuan Nuan’s clothes are washed to such a mess, but they are still wearing them, but she wears new clothes all day long. I’m afraid that the money that Captain Fu gave her was all used to buy her clothes!”
“With her figure, she’d still be ugly even if she wore flowers on her body! Does she think that Captain Fu would take a second look at her? It’s so funny.” Guo Xia said sarcastically.
“Don’t worry about her, let her buy whatever she wants. When Captain Fu comes back and knows all this, her good days will be over.” Fan Fuying said.
Yan Xi didn’t know what they were talking about. She was looking at the street vendors on both sides of the road all the way.
This year is already 1983. There are more self-employed individuals. You can see self-employed individuals setting up stalls and opening shops every few steps. They are of all kinds.
It is said that the 1980s were full of gold, and as long as you were diligent, you would have no trouble making money.
Yan Xi was already planning in her mind that she would do something to earn some money.
Not to mention the distant past, let’s just talk about the nearby past. She only had eight yuan in her hand now. She followed Fan Fuying and the others to the market because she really wanted to buy some new clothes for Fu Caihe and Nuannuan.
In the past two days, she noticed that the two children never changed their clothes. They were always wearing the same clothes that were washed so white that the color could hardly be distinguished.
But a children’s coat costs four or five dollars, and she doesn’t have enough money.
Fu Wen didn’t know when she would be able to come back. If she didn’t find a way to make some money, how would she and her two children eat?
Going back a long way, Fu Wen was forced to marry the original owner.
For a woman who traveled from the 21st century, love and marriage were no longer necessities in Yan Xi’s mind. It was even more impossible for her to develop a long-term relationship in a forced marriage.
Yan Xi was already prepared to divorce Fu Wen when he returned.
But after the divorce, she needs a source of income, otherwise how can she survive?
Therefore, before Fu Wen comes back, it is necessary to find a way to make money.
Yan Xi thought it through clearly and resolutely turned around and left the clothing stall to buy vegetables and seasonings.
Fan Fuying and her friends who were gathering in front of the stall to pick out clothes for their children, saw Yan Xi leaving out of the corner of their eyes, and they all looked at each other with an expression of “as expected”.
