Chapter 15

Lin Feng remained silent throughout the journey.

When the car arrived at the outskirts, Lin Feng thought they were headed to the villa from the previous night. However, Zhao Jing changed direction and drove elsewhere.

After half an hour, the car came to a halt.

“Get out.”

Zhao Jing got out of the car.

Lin Feng followed suit.

To his surprise, instead of heading towards the villa from the previous night, Zhao Jing led him in another direction.

Half an hour later, the car slowly stopped.

“Get out.”

With these words, Zhao Jing walked out of the car.

Lin Feng followed behind Zhao Jing and got out of the car.

This was a quiet villa area with strict security. Two guards stood at the entrance, both standing upright. Lin Feng observed them carefully. They looked more like soldiers than security guards, and he noticed a slight bulge around their waists, indicating they were carrying handguns.

Lin Feng became instinctively vigilant.

Since Zhao Jing hadn’t introduced her identity, Lin Feng didn’t understand why they were here.

Outside the villa, Zhao Jing stopped and turned to Lin Feng. “Go inside; our team leader is waiting for you.”

Lin Feng nodded and walked into the villa.

He was cautious about the level of security, understanding that the person he was about to meet must have a significant identity.

He refrained from asking too many questions at this point; being overly inquisitive would be impolite.

Entering the villa, Lin Feng saw the team leader Zhao Jing mentioned. As expected, it was Miss Murong, the daughter of Murong Hao, whom he had met last night, Murong Mengxi.

Murong Mengxi was reclining in a lounge chair, looking calm and composed.

She wore a long dress, revealing her slender and beautiful legs, enticing one’s imagination.

“Hello, Aunt Mengxi!” Lin Feng greeted respectfully. Lin Feng had been taught good manners by his family.

“Aunt Mengxi!”

Hearing this title, Murong Mengxi opened her eyes wide, looking at Lin Feng. “Lin Feng, do you know how impolite it is to casually call someone aunt?”

Lin Feng could tell that Murong Mengxi was genuinely angry. He cautiously asked, “Mengxi… Elder sister?”

“Yes, this title is acceptable.”

Murong Mengxi smiled when Lin Feng used the correct address. “I’m 35 this year; calling me elder sister is quite appropriate.”

“Elder sister Mengxi, do you need something from me?” Lin Feng got straight to the point.

“Yes.”

Murong Mengxi raised her delicate lips and handed a document on the table to Lin Feng.

Lin Feng took the document and, upon opening it, was completely stunned. Inside was a photo of a blond man, the same assassin from last night.

“Based on the intelligence we’ve gathered, the international assassin group’s killer, Black Wind, arrived in Jiangzhou last night, and his current whereabouts are unknown.”

“According to the clues we obtained, Black Wind infiltrated Daxia with the main mission of assassinating you. So, you need to be careful during this period.”

Lin Feng’s lips twitched slightly. The information provided by Murong Mengxi seemed too late. He had already dealt with the assassin last night, and now the killer’s body had been taken care of.

“You don’t seem surprised?” Murong Mengxi looked at Lin Feng, who remained calm, with some curiosity.

“The assassin has already been dealt with,” Lin Feng replied.

“Dealt with by you?” Murong Mengxi narrowed her eyes, scanning Lin Feng as if trying to discern what made him different.

In the end, Murong Mengxi sighed softly. “Lin Feng, you are really boring. I thought you would hide it from me, but I didn’t expect you to be so straightforward.”

“You knew all along?” Now it was Lin Feng’s turn to be shocked.

“I knew.” Murong Mengxi nodded. “From the moment Black Wind got off the plane, his every move was under Dragon Pavilion’s surveillance, including your fight last night. My people were watching.”

Hearing this, Lin Feng looked at Murong Mengxi with a strange expression.

“Mengxi… Sister, do you need to explain something to me?” Lin Feng asked cautiously.

Murong Mengxi smiled but didn’t say anything, slowly standing up from the wicker chair.

“Let’s reintroduce ourselves. I’m Murong Mengxi, the head of Dragon Pavilion’s Special Operations Department in Jiangzhou.” Murong Mengxi finished speaking and extended her delicate hand.

Lin Feng shook her hand cautiously.

Dragon Pavilion’s Special Operations Department was something he didn’t know about, but the name sounded impressive.

Seeming to sense Lin Feng’s confusion, Murong Mengxi explained slowly, “Dragon Pavilion is the most mysterious organization in Daxia, and this Special Operations Department is just a small force under Dragon Pavilion.”

Lin Feng nodded, appearing to understand.

“Mengxi Sister, I want to know who sent the killer Black Wind? Who hired him to assassinate me?” Compared to Dragon Pavilion, Lin Feng was more interested in knowing who wanted him dead.

“Lin Feng, don’t you already have an answer in your heart?”

“Chu Qiu!”

Murong Mengxi nodded approvingly.

Lin Feng’s eyes turned cold. He had indeed guessed that it was Chu Family, the Chu Clan. Since he arrived in Jiangzhou the night before last, he hadn’t offended many people, and the only one who would want him dead was Chu Qiu.

“Lin Feng, do you have any plans to join the Special Operations Department?” Murong Mengxi extended an olive branch to Lin Feng.

“Forget it.” Lin Feng shook his head.

Seeing Lin Feng’s refusal, Murong Mengxi didn’t say much, as if this were within her expectations. She smiled slightly, with a profound meaning in her words. “Lin Feng, I believe you will join eventually.”

“Maybe…”

After a brief conversation, Lin Feng left the safe house.

“Beauty, do you want to accompany me back?” Lin Feng stood outside, looking at the surroundings of the desolate wilderness. He gazed at Zhao Jing with an unpleasant expression.

“I’m only responsible for picking you up, not for sending you back.”

Lin Feng: “…”

In the end, Zhao Jing didn’t accompany him back. She just pointed out the way for Lin Feng to leave.

Lin Feng was extremely grateful. At the same time, he silently vowed never to come to this cursed damn place ever again. To let him walk back just because he didn’t join the special operations bureau, such a mean-spirited move left Lin Feng speechless and astonished.

“Ring, ring, ring—”

Lin Feng’s phone suddenly rang, displaying the words “Tigress Wife” on the caller ID.

Lin Feng immediately answered the call.

“Hello, Wife… What?”

“Have you taken your medicine?” Song Xueyan asked coldly over the phone. Lin Feng’s cheesy actions earlier had given her goosebumps.

“I have.”

Lin Feng pursed his lips, patting his chest. He secretly thanked himself for changing his words earlier; otherwise, he might have blurted out “Tigress Wife.”

“Yan Yan, does Daoist Qinghong know the origin of the dagger?” Lin Feng quickly changed the topic.

“That’s why I called you.” Song Xueyan said, not hiding her displeasure. “Daoist Qinghong said the wooden box has a sealed formation, and only you can open it. So where are you now? Hurry back.”

Lin Feng looked around the desolate outskirts.

“I’m in the suburbs right now. It seems like I got lost.”

Song Xueyan: …

“You grew up collecting herbs on the mountains, and your sense of direction isn’t strong? How could you get lost?” Song Xueyan questioned.

Lin Feng didn’t know how to explain. He was indeed in the outskirts, but in the northern suburbs, while Song Xueyan’s Qingfeng Pavilion was in the southern suburbs.

The two locations were tens of kilometers apart.

“Never mind, come next time.” Song Xueyan said, “There’s a banquet tonight. Wait for us at home, and we’ll take you to the banquet tonight.”

“Okay.”

Lin Feng nodded, and Song Xueyan hung up the phone.

“Beep, beep—”

Behind Lin Feng, a car horn sounded. He turned to see Mu Rong Mengxi’s car. He immediately showed a happy expression and waved at the car.

“Great, I can catch a ride.”

“Beep, beep—”

Instead of stopping, the car passed by Lin Feng, accelerating and even honking twice, warning him to be careful not to get hit.

“What the hell is this Dragon Pavilion? I won’t join even if they beg me.” Lin Feng cursed loudly as he watched the departing car.

“Eighteen kilometers?!”

Lin Feng opened the navigation. The distance to the city was eighteen kilometers. He looked around and resisted the urge to use his ability.

He was worried about Dragon Pavilion’s people around.

Lin Feng didn’t want to expose his identity as an ability user to others; his ability was his biggest trump card.

Three o’clock in the afternoon.

Facing the shining sunlight, Lin Feng ran back to the city of Jiangzhou. On the way, he encountered a taxi, and the driver demanded a hundred yuan. Lin Feng immediately refused without hesitation.

A hundred yuan for this short distance was nothing short of robbery.

Lin Feng took a bus back to the Song family villa.

Inside the Song family villa.

Song Xueyan and Song Tianqing had already returned. Seeing Lin Feng coming back, Su Yue hurriedly went to the kitchen to heat up the food.

The food was ready, and Lin Feng ate it hungrily, with Su Yue laughing happily beside him.

At six thirty in the evening, Lin Feng changed into formal attire and attended the banquet with Song Xueyan and Song Tianqing.

Jiangzhou Grand Hotel.

Chu International hosted a charity banquet, inviting prominent figures from Jiangzhou. It was not surprising that the Song family was invited, but Lin Feng’s inclusion on the guest list was intriguing.

Mei Family, Jiangzhou Mei Clan.

The Mei family was a second-rate family in Jiangzhou, comparable to the former strength of the Song family. After the Song family was targeted by Chu International and weakened, the Mei family became the leading second-rate family in Jiangzhou.

This time, the Mei family was invited to the charity banquet, making them pleasantly surprised. Mei Wenhua, the eldest son of the Mei family, also accompanied the family head to attend.

“Chu International invited the Mei family, giving us a chance. I must leave a good impression on Young Master Chu.” Mei Wenhua thought to himself.

He knew there was a feud between Chu International and the Song family. Although Mei Wenhua didn’t know why Chu International spared the Song family, he heard that Lin Feng, the son-in-law of the Song family, had offended Chu Qiu.

So Mei Wenhua found himself a target to bully.

Mei Wenhua came to Chu Qiu with a flattering smile, respectfully greeting, “Young Master Chu, long time no see. I am Mei Wenhua.”

“It turns out to be Young Master Mei. I’ve heard about you.” Chu Qiu smiled gently in his suit.

“Young master Chu, do you know me?”

“Of course.” Chu Qiu smiled slightly. Mei Wenhua was suddenly excited. He hadn’t expected Young Master Chu, such a big figure, to actually know him.

“Chu Shao, I know that the son-in-law of the Song family has offended you. How about letting me teach him a lesson?” Mei Wenhua asked weakly.

“Oh?” Chu Qiu suddenly became interested. “What kind of lesson do you have in mind?”

“Young Master Chu, please watch.” Mei Wenhua smiled mysteriously, then snapped his fingers. A tall and slim waitress in a cheongsam appeared from a distance, holding two glasses of wine.

Mei Wenhua took one glass.

“Everyone, please quiet down.” Mei Wenhua shouted, and the surroundings instantly fell silent. All eyes turned to Mei Wenhua, or more precisely, to Chu Qiu, Young Master Chu.

“I am Mei Wenhua, the heir of the Mei Group. There are grievances between my Mei family and the Song family, as I’m sure many of you are aware. Today, the son-in-law of the Song family, Lin Feng, will be present at the banquet. I will represent the Mei family in offering him a toast.”

With that, Mei Wenhua took a sip of the wine and deliberately spat into the glass.

Many people showed weird expressions, and the young ladies of wealthy families looked at Mei Wenhua with disdain. This Mei Wenhua was too disgusting.

A part of the crowd, however, brightened up.

Mei Wenhua didn’t mention Chu’s International at all in his words. Although he didn’t mention it, every sentence was implicitly related to Chu’s International. This was undoubtedly an opportunity, a chance to show goodwill to Young Master Chu Qiu.

“Brother Mei, I also want to greet the son-in-law of the Song family.” A dandy approached and spat thick phlegm into the wine glass.

Many people followed suit.

The wine glasses were soon full, half filled with wine, and half with phlegm.

Chu Qiu smiled throughout the process, showing satisfaction with Mei Wenhua’s behavior.

“The Song family has arrived!”

Someone shouted, and everyone turned to look at the entrance.

Mei Wenhua waved his hand, signaling the waitstaff to step back. Then, he walked towards the entrance with a smile, extending his hand towards Lin Feng.

“Young Master Lin, it’s been a long time.”

Lin Feng politely shook hands.

“Is this guy out of his mind? The Song and Chu families have a feud, and this banquet is hosted by the Chu family. He comes over to greet me. He’s either an idiot or has ulterior motives.” Lin Feng thought to himself, becoming wary of Mei Wenhua’s actions.

Mei Wenhua snapped his fingers again.

A server approached with two glasses of wine.

Mei Wenhua picked up one glass and left the other, filled with Baijia wine.

The server understood Mei Wenhua’s intention and handed the remaining Baijia wine to Lin Feng, who calmly accepted it.

“Young Master Lin, I toast to you.”

Mei Wenhua and Lin Feng clinked glasses, and then both downed their drinks.

Everyone’s eyes were on Lin Feng, waiting for him to finish the Baijia wine.
