Chapter 37
The county high school is outside the town.
Lin Feng watched his two younger sisters enter the school, then he boarded the bus to Jiangzhou City. He didn’t tell his sisters that he had become the prospective son-in-law of the Song family.
Six o’clock in the evening. Lin Feng returned to the Song family villa.
In the villa, only Su Yue was preparing dinner. Song Xueyan and Song Tianqing were busy with the company’s affairs and had not returned.
“Xiao Feng, is Grandpa okay?” Su Yue asked.
Lin Feng didn’t come back yesterday; his excuse was to visit his grandfather in his hometown.
“Grandpa is fine,” Lin Feng smiled.
Su Yue nodded. In her opinion, Lin Feng’s concern for his grandfather was just a facade; he truly missed home.
Therefore, Su Yue and Song Tianqing did not object to Lin Feng’s visit to his hometown yesterday.
“Xiao Feng, last time your Uncle Song went to Qingfeng Pavilion to visit Daoist Qinghong and inquired about the date of your engagement with Yanyan. Take a look and see if there’s a suitable date.” Su Yue said, handing over a calendar with a cheerful smile.
Lin Feng took the calendar and looked at it.
On the calendar, there were no markings for the next two months. The dates selected by Daoist Qinghong were in the months after May.
Su Yue immediately explained, “Xiao Feng, the company is currently at a crucial moment of revival. Your Uncle Song wants to wait until the company stabilizes before organizing the engagement banquet, so he chose a date from June onwards.”
“Aunt Su, no problem. Just pick a date in June. Check the specific day later,” Lin Feng said with a smile, returning the calendar to Su Yue.
“Ring, ring, ring—”
Lin Feng’s phone suddenly rang.
He glanced at the caller ID, and it was Xia Shiyu calling.
Lin Feng remembered that during the day, he had promised to go and give Xia Shiyu’s mother a treatment.
After answering the call:
“Lin Feng, are you free now? I just finished work.”
“Yes, I’m free. I’ll come to see you in a bit.”
“Okay.”
Lin Feng hung up the phone, briefly explained to his future mother-in-law, Su Yue, that he had some urgent matters to attend to, and then headed towards the Song family villa.
Once outside the Song family villa, Lin Feng reached the street.
Just as he was about to cross the pedestrian lane, he heard the roar of a car again. A car from a distance was speeding at over 180 miles per hour directly towards him.
This time, Lin Feng had foresight and dodged in time.
The Mercedes sedan, realizing it hadn’t hit Lin Feng, accelerated away.
On the side of the road, Lin Feng’s face darkened.
The situation this time was exactly the same as the last time.
“Chu Qiu,” Lin Feng muttered, a flash of anger in his eyes..
He hadn’t sought trouble with the Chu family, but Chu Qiu repeatedly sent people to assassinate him.
Lin Feng couldn’t tolerate this anymore.
He immediately dialed Murong Mengxi’s number, “Sister Murong, I’ve been attacked…”
“Come to Jiangzhou Grand Hotel.”
Murong Mengxi calmly provided Lin Feng with an address.
Then, Lin Feng hailed a taxi and arrived at Jiangzhou Grand Hotel. Ignoring the hushed whispers of the front desk staff, he reached the familiar Room 1801.
This time was strange; Zhao Jing was unexpectedly absent.
Considering Zhao Jing was the deputy team leader of Jiangzhou Special Operations Bureau, Lin Feng found it less surprising.
Entering the room, Lin Feng said indignantly, “Sister Mengxi, I’ve been attacked.”
“Is this it?”
Murong Mengxi, dressed in a red gown, handed a tablet to Lin Feng. He took the tablet, and the video playing on it showed the moment he was about to be hit by the car.
“You knew about this?” Lin Feng looked at her in astonishment.
Murong Mengxi nodded, “Chu Qiu sent someone to hack the cameras around the Song family villa and on the road. Once you reached a certain point near the villa, the hidden car would be set in motion.”
“The surveillance on the road was monitoring you in real-time. They simulated that, just as you stepped into the middle of the road, the Mercedes would come and hit you.”
Lin Feng’s expression turned grave, “Sister Mengxi, if you knew about this, why didn’t you go and catch the person?”
“It’s useless,” Murong Mengxi shook her head. “Chu’s family is best at orchestrating accidents. If we catch the driver, they will make sure he’s charged with drunk driving. Later, they’ll use their influence to get him out of jail.”
“Does Chu’s family really have that much influence?” Lin Feng’s face gradually darkened.
“Haven’t you heard a saying?” Murong Mengxi countered.
“What saying?”
“In Jiangzhou, Chu’s family’s words are called Policies.”
Lin Feng fell into complete silence.
He keenly felt that Chu’s family’s position in the entire Jiangzhou was unshakeable.
“Sister Mengxi, doesn’t Jiangzhou Special Operations Bureau intervene in such matters?” Lin Feng looked at Murong Dreamlike.
“From a responsibility standpoint, if Chu’s family hires assassins and causes loss of life, we, the Special Operations Bureau, do have the authority to eliminate them,” Murong Mengxi said calmly.
“What are we waiting for then?”
“Lin Feng, things aren’t as simple as you think. If the Chu family could be eliminated, Zhao Jing and I would have taken action long ago,” Murong Mengxi solemnly explained. “In the Dragon Pavilion Special Operations Bureau, there’s a significant figure from the Chu family.”
“His authority surpasses mine, so if I want to take action against the Chu family, I need to seek his approval. Do you understand now? That’s why I dare not move against the Chu family.”
Lin Feng nodded. The Chu family had protection at the higher levels of the Dragon Pavilion, explaining why even international assassins hired by Chu Qiu couldn’t provoke any response from the Special Operations Bureau.
The reason was right here.
“Sister Mengxi, you called me here not just to tell me that the Chu family can’t be touched that easily, right?” Lin Feng squinted his eyes, silently watching her.
“Of course not,” Murong Mengxi gladly responded. “I need your help to bring down the Chu family.”
“How do we bring them down?” Lin Feng’s eyebrows raised, his tone showing a hint of excitement.
Bringing down the Chu family was an exhilarating thought.
“Firstly, we can’t openly involve the Special Operations Bureau. I can only provide you with assistance in secret. Secondly, if that significant figure from the Chu family intervenes, I might become your enemy,” Murong Mengxi explained.
Lin Feng: “…”
How is this any different from walking into a trap?
“Don’t worry; I’ve already thought of a plan for you,” Murong Mengxi smiled faintly.
“What’s the plan?”
“Lin Feng, if my guess is correct, the fragment of the Celestial Diagram in your father’s possession should be with you now.”
Lin Feng nodded, not choosing to hide anything.
“This fragment of the Celestial Diagram is the key to overthrowing the Chu family. I presume Master Qinghong has already informed you about the secrets of the Celestial Diagram.”
“How did you know?” Lin Feng was surprised.
“I know everything.”
Then, Murong Mengxi continued, “Seventy years ago, with various sects standing strong, our Dragon Pavilion ancestors aimed to unify the major forces, and the first to be overthrown was the Celestial Sect.”
“During the downfall of the Celestial Sect, the treasured Celestial Diagram shattered and scattered across the mortal world. It is said that the one who completes the Map can unlock its secrets.”
“What does this have to do with overthrowing the Chu family?” Lin Feng asked in confusion.
“As far as I know, the reason the Chu family has thrived until today is because a powerful member of the Celestial Sect has been secretly supporting them…”
