In the end, Father Gao got to eat his meat.
In a fit of indignation, he pulled up his electronic medical records on his phone, which clearly stated that the doctor’s advice was for him to quit smoking and drinking; there was no mention of not eating meat.
The golden-brown crispy pork had soaked up the soup, its crunchy shell turning soft but becoming even more succulent.
A gentle bite was all it took for the juices to burst out, filling his mouth with the delicious taste of meat.
The vegetable was napa cabbage, which Zhao Xing had gotten from the village. It was all freshly picked, tender, sweet, and incredibly refreshing, perfectly balancing the greasiness of the crispy pork.
Even the broth from the stew was rich and mellow; one sip made you want another.
Take a sip of soup, then pick up a fluffy sweet potato bun and take a bite—
The buns were made with honey-sweet red-hearted sweet potatoes, steamed until they oozed sweetness, then peeled and mixed with cornmeal and flour. They were sweet without any added sugar. A single bite filled your senses with the aroma of sweet potato and wheat.
Gao Jiajia had just taken a bite when she remembered something. She held out her bowl. “Mom, don’t you dislike meat? Why don’t you give it to me…”
But her dear mother instinctively clutched her own bowl and dodged to the side. “No, no, I like it! I love meat!”
Gao Jiajia’s expression froze. She tentatively looked at her dad. “Dad, you never eat sweet potatoes. This bun…”
Her dad was even more outrageous. He grabbed his bowl and scurried over to Professor Liao’s table, his meaning clear: What dad? Don’t try to get familiar with me.
Gao Jiajia ground her teeth in frustration. What kind of flimsy father-daughter relationship was this!
Aside from this little episode, no one in the main hall was talking.
Everyone had their heads down, shoveling food into their mouths. To put it bluntly, the group looked like they hadn’t eaten in eight lifetimes.
Even the little children were quietly eating with their kid-sized utensils, not needing any adult supervision at all.
After lunch, the main hall returned to its boisterous and lively state.
The group immediately forgot their earlier dinner squabbles and started chatting happily again. Every single one of them had two faces!
Three guests, whose stay had come to an end, reluctantly left with their suitcases.
Before leaving, they insisted that Zhao Xing pack them some sweet potato buns, saying they would pay for them.
Zhao Xing didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. He packed five for each of them. “Have you city folk never had sweet potatoes or never had steamed buns before?”
The guest chuckled. “Everything here is delicious, Boss Zhao. Everything.”
Before these guests were even far gone, two more guests arrived, travel-worn.
The Welcoming Flower at the entrance once again bloomed with fresh, tender blossoms.
This small guesthouse, with its limited capacity and extremely inconvenient transportation, was somehow constantly at full occupancy.
Zhao Xing even had to occasionally turn away callers because he had no rooms left. It was, without a doubt, a small miracle.
In the afternoon, when the weather warmed up a bit, Zhao Xing began to organize a guesthouse activity.
He hadn’t originally planned on doing so much, but he couldn’t handle the crazy antics of his guests.
There were no scenic spots or places to play near Immortal’s Rest Mountain.
A few days ago, a guest who was bored had gone down the mountain to wander around and insisted on watching a pig being butchered, only to be nearly knocked into the pot of boiling water by the pig.
That had given Zhao Xing quite a scare. After thinking it over, he decided to organize a small activity every day to burn off some of their energy and prevent them from causing trouble out of boredom.
He took out the small bamboo baskets and trowels he had prepared earlier and, like a kindergarten teacher, stood in the main hall and shouted, “Anyone who wants to dig for wild vegetables this afternoon, sign up with me! Three people per group, form your own groups. Each group gets one basket and one trowel…”
As he shouted, the guests got excited.
“Oh, there’s actually an activity?”
“You new here, buddy? We told you, Boss Zhao organizes an activity every day.”
“Haha, thanks to that big brother who almost got knocked into the pig pot!”
“…That big brother was me…”
Having stayed at this shop for a while, the guests were now experienced at lining up.
In no time, they had formed a queue and even sorted out their groups. Those who came together formed a team, and those with not enough people just pulled in friends they had just gotten to know.
Zhao Xing nodded in satisfaction, distributing the tools and giving instructions. “I borrowed all of these from the village, and I have to return them. Don’t break them!”
The guests nodded vigorously. “Don’t worry, Boss Zhao. Don’t you know us by now? When have we ever caused trouble?”
The corner of Zhao Xing’s mouth twitched. You’re the ones who cause the most trouble, he thought.
Early spring was the perfect time for digging wild vegetables.
Zhao Xing, acting like a tour guide, led them to a patch of wild land and continued to shout, “Be careful not to wander off. If you get lost, call me. If you don’t recognize a wild vegetable, ask someone around you. There are also villagers digging for vegetables nearby; you can ask them too.”
As he was speaking, a woman’s laugh came from behind. “Ah Xing, taking your guests out to play again?”
Zhao Xing turned around. “Auntie Luan, you’re out digging for wild vegetables too?”
He then introduced her to the group. “Didn’t you all say the crispy pork at lunch today was delicious? Auntie Luan was the one who fried it.”
The unworldly guests let out a “Wow!”
A few of the young men and women went up and grabbed Auntie Luan’s hands. “Auntie Luan, Auntie Luan, are you making crispy pork again tonight? We want more!”
Auntie Luan was suddenly flustered. Everyone in the village knew that Zhao Xing’s guesthouse had a lot of guests these days, and they didn’t dare to get too close, for fear of affecting his business.
She never expected these guests to not mind a villager’s rustic ways at all, and to even pester her for food.
Auntie Luan was suddenly at a loss for words.
Seeing her discomfort, Zhao Xing came over to shoo them away. “Shoo, shoo, this is my auntie. Don’t you have your own aunties?”
The young people whined, “But my auntie doesn’t know how to fry crispy pork! Auntie Luan, Auntie Luan, please make it one more time! I’m leaving tomorrow, this is my last request!”
How could Auntie Luan resist this? “Alright, alright, Auntie will make it for you…”
The young people were overjoyed and immediately surrounded her, showering her with flattery, praising the crispy pork to the heavens, making Auntie Luan beam with joy.
Zhao Xing looked up at the sky, speechless. Great, another one mesmerized by this group of guests. These people will do anything for food!
Just then, the system suddenly prompted: 【Detected an otherworldly guest entering the guesthouse’s vicinity. Invitation has been dispatched.】
“Now?” Zhao Xing was surprised.
“Yep, yep, absolutely no mistake this time,” the System said. “The guest will be at the guesthouse entrance soon. Please be prepared, Host.”
Zhao Xing looked back at his guests, who were digging with great enthusiasm.
There were no dangers nearby. He left, feeling at ease, to go welcome the new guest.
ABO Starry Sky World, on abandoned planet No. 3092.
A petite female Omega with delicate features scanned her surroundings warily.
Seeing nothing unusual, she ducked her head and slipped into a hole hidden by a pile of trash.
After about five or six minutes of winding travel, the space ahead opened up.
It was a basement, hidden beneath the piles of garbage that littered the abandoned planet.
Hearing her enter, several Omegas who were busy working stopped what they were doing. “Leader.”
Gui Mei nodded in acknowledgment and walked to the innermost part of the room.
A bed was placed in the corner, and on it lay a very thin young boy, his face flushed red, seemingly already unconscious.
Gui Mei frowned. “How is Xiao Yu now?”
A middle-aged male Omega next to her sighed. “His body is too weak. We have no medicine. He might not make it through his differentiation period…”
Gui Mei’s face darkened. After a long moment, she said in a low voice, “I’ll go find medicine.”
The male Omega was stunned. “No, Leader! The entire empire is searching for you right now. The moment you leave the abandoned planet, you’ll be discovered!”
“I won’t leave,” Gui Mei said, softening her tone to explain. “Three days ago, some trash was dumped here with the St. Mary’s Hospital logo on it. Perhaps there are some medical supplies inside. You wait here. I’ll be right back.”
She turned to leave. Just as she reached the exit, she suddenly stopped, took out an inhibitor, and said, “If I don’t make it back in time, or if Xiao Yu’s condition worsens, use this on him. May the God of Yangwei protect us.”
With that, she left resolutely.
The hearts of the Omegas behind her were in their throats. This was their last inhibitor…
Gui Mei headed in the direction she remembered. The patched-together starship groaned as if it were about to fall apart. She bit her lip slightly, her face paling.
In fact, since this morning, she had been feeling the preliminary signs of a pheromone disorder. But there was nothing she could do. They were now forced to hide on this remote little planet, lacking even food and water, let alone medicine.
So, this trip to find medicine was not only to save Xiao Yu, but also to save herself, and to save all of them.
After all, every citizen of the galaxy knew that an Omega could not possibly live without inhibitors.
However, Gui Mei followed the direction from memory for a long time but still didn’t see the pile of discarded medical waste. Her heart instantly sank.
Had she remembered wrong, or had it already been blown away by a stellar storm?
Without a fresh supply of inhibitors, what kind of desperate situation would they fall into… Gui Mei didn’t dare to think about it.
Just as she was sinking into despair, a strange voice sounded around her: 【You have entered the vicinity of the Immortal’s Rest Inn.】
As the voice spoke, a red light descended from the sky, landing in her palm and transforming into a magnificent red invitation card.
【The Immortal’s Rest Inn awaits your esteemed presence for tea.】
Gui Mei was stunned. What’s going on? Are there other people on this abandoned planet?
No, that’s not right!
She looked around warily. There was no vegetation on the abandoned planet, but now, she was surrounded by tall trees and some short bushes and flowers.
Had she accidentally entered a spatial rift?
An unremarkable small wooden building appeared in front of her. On its roof was a sign made of green vines, which read “Immortal’s Rest Inn.”
Gui Mei took a deep breath and clutched the invitation in her hand. No, I have to find a way to leave, quickly.
She could already feel the pheromones in her body beginning to rage. In less than ten minutes, she would lose all ability to resist. She couldn’t allow herself to remain in such a strange and dangerous place…
Just then, the door of the small building was pushed open, and the guesthouse owner, dressed in a silver robe, came out to greet her with a smile. “You must be tired from your long journey, guest. Why don’t you come in and rest for a bit?”
Though his face was calm, inwardly, he was panicking like a cornered dog.
Because a system panel was right in front of him.
【Daily Task Issued: The new guest is suffering from a pheromone disorder. The Host must immediately alleviate her condition, or the guest will be at risk of sudden death!】
Seeing the guest’s face grow paler and paler, as if she could no longer speak, Zhao Xing was in a full-blown panic. “System, System, System, what do I do?! What do I do for a pheromone disorder? Liuwei Dihuang Pills? Shenbao Tablets?”
System: “…I don’t think those will work, will they?”
In his panic, a flash of inspiration hit Zhao Xing. “Right, the Clear Rhyme Tea Set!”
He remembered that the Clear Rhyme Tea Set had the effect of recuperating the body. Although he didn’t know what this pheromone disorder was, it sounded a bit like menstrual irregularities…
Whatever, he only had one option right now. He had to try it!
He took out the Clear Rhyme Tea Set with the fastest speed possible. Not even caring if it was hot, he poured a cup of clear tea and tipped it into Gui Mei’s mouth.
He didn’t know if it was his imagination, but Gui Mei’s face seemed less pale. Zhao Xing immediately poured a few more cups into her.
Gui Mei felt an intense pain all over her body. She knew her own situation.
In these years of hiding, the inhibitors she had used were all inferior goods bought on the black market, with high levels of impurities. She didn’t know when, but during a pheromone disorder, these impurities would flow through her body along with her pheromones and take her life.
When she felt this intense pain, she suddenly had a feeling that today was the day… It was a pity she hadn’t been able to bring back medicine for Xiao Yu, and her companions were still waiting for her…
Just as she was thinking this, a liquid with a special, clear fragrance flowed into her mouth.
She subconsciously swallowed a few sips, as if her body already knew that this thing was good for her—
As the liquid went down, her raging pheromones calmed down, and the intense pain also subsided.
Gui Mei dazedly opened her eyes and met a pair of anxious, starry eyes.
In her haze, she suddenly remembered the legend that circulated in the hearts of all Omegas in the galaxy.
She said in a low, slurred voice, “Are you… Are you the Veridian God? You’ve come back to save us again…”
【Daily Task Completed. Congratulations, Host, on receiving a reward!】
But Zhao Xing, having received the reward, was not very excited.
His expression was ugly.
“System,” he asked, “did that girl just call me a virgin?”
