“My Nephew’s Wife Became My Wife: The Big Shot of the Era Panicked” Chapter 19

Chapter 19: Automatic Farming in the Dimensional Field

Jiang Xiaoci herself, truly didn’t know what was good for her.

Clenching his fists, Lu Yaozu silently vowed to make Jiang Xiaoci’s entire family pay the price for what they did today.

Fuming, Lu Yaozu stormed off. The breakfast he had brought with him was flung to the side of the road, ending up as a free meal for some stray dogs.

After the mother and daughter entered the house, Jiang’s mother immediately asked, “Why did that Lu boy come here? What does he want?”

Jiang Xiaoci explained, “Mom, don’t worry. He just came to try and stay relevant. He probably realized we already knew what he did and haven’t looked for him since, so he’s panicking.”

Thinking back to the fact that their family had actually been reported—just like in her daughter’s prophetic dream—Jiang’s mother was even more convinced that Lu Yaozu was not a good person.

Shaking her head angrily, she said, “That boy really is no good.”

Jiang Xiaoci comforted her, “Mom, let’s not talk about him anymore. Let’s eat. He’s not worth getting angry over.”

“Alright. Your dad is in the study checking the ledger. I’ll call him over. Once we’re done eating, your father and I need to go out for some business matters. Stay alert at home, okay?”

Jiang Xiaoci nodded. “Don’t worry, Mom. I’m an adult now. I’ll take care of myself.”

The family sat down to eat in silence. The mother and daughter, with great tacit understanding, didn’t bring up what had happened in front of Jiang Decai.

After the meal, both parents left. Jiang Xiaoci, feeling bored at home, decided to enter the space inside her bracelet for a stroll.

She thought it was a waste not to make full use of such a good space. It would be a shame not to put it to good use.

Previously, she had been too busy relocating the family’s valuables to take a proper look around. Now that she had time, Jiang Xiaoci wandered through the space, carefully examining every corner.

She decided to try planting some vegetables in the small plot of land in the space. With such good conditions and the privacy of the dimensional realm, she didn’t have to worry about theft. It would also add more variety to their meals.

The key was that she could get supplies without even leaving the house—unnoticed and discreet.

With that decision made, Jiang Xiaoci brought out some seeds to plant. But as soon as she loosened her grip, the seeds automatically dropped into the soil. As if drawn by some mysterious force in the earth, they scattered across the field in a beautiful fan-like pattern and planted themselves—no effort on her part at all.

Jiang Xiaoci was stunned. She hadn’t expected the space to have such a fully automatic function.

Then she got excited, already imagining how good the vegetables would taste. The only thing she wasn’t sure of was whether the growth cycle in this space was the same as in the outside world.

Still, regardless of that, this self-contained world was unknown to others. If anything ever happened, she could still eat well without leaving the house—and no one would ever suspect a thing.

In this era of material scarcity, if a family was seen eating too well, it was very easy to attract jealousy.

She and her family had already learned that lesson all too well in their previous lives.

Just as Jiang Xiaoci was delighting in the usefulness of the space, a loud knock came from outside the house.

The knocking was loud and rude, each bang heavier and more urgent than the last.

Even inside the dimensional space, Jiang Xiaoci heard the noise. She immediately realized that the investigation team had likely come to her house to inspect things.

She quickly exited the space and hastily straightened her clothes. Since she had been testing planting in the space, her outfit was earthy and plain, a little worn but not conspicuously so.

Jiang Xiaoci was actually quite satisfied—no need to change. She walked quickly to the door and opened it to find several stern-looking men standing outside.

The man in the lead was a middle-aged man with a stiff face and sharp, scrutinizing eyes. He gave Jiang Xiaoci a once-over. Seeing how young and plain she looked, dressed simply, he was briefly stunned.

But he quickly resumed his official demeanor. Pulling a document from his jacket pocket, he held it up and introduced himself.

“Comrade, we’re from the investigation team. We received a report that your family’s wealth is of suspicious origin and violates current socialist principles. There are signs of capitalist tendencies. This is a search warrant.”

Jiang Xiaoci’s heart tightened. Just like in her past life, it had come—what was meant to come, had come.

Without waiting for her to respond, the man waved his hand and barked, “Search the place!”

Seven or eight young men in military-green uniforms with red armbands responded promptly, “Yes, Team Leader Xu!”

Jiang Xiaoci quickly stepped aside and watched as the team stormed into her house like wolves, launching into a full-blown search.

She pursed her lips, frowning slightly but said nothing.

Feigning shock and confusion, she turned to the team leader. “Leader, our family has always lived honestly. How could we possibly have capitalist tendencies?”

Team Leader Xu glanced at her again. Seeing she was young and plainly dressed, he begrudgingly said, “We’ll see after we search. Don’t ask too many questions!”

Jiang Xiaoci obediently closed her mouth and simply watched as the team rummaged through the house. Footsteps and the sound of items being moved blended into a noisy mess.

Even cups and plates were shoved aside with clattering sounds. Old quilts were pulled out of cabinets and tossed carelessly to the floor.

Jiang Xiaoci stood to the side, unfazed by the mess. All the valuable items had long been moved into the space within her jade bracelet. Let them search—they wouldn’t find anything of worth.

Such a commotion, of course, alerted the rest of the residential compound.

As soon as the investigation team’s jeep sped into the compound, many neighbors had already taken notice.

By the time the uniformed, grim-faced officials entered Jiang Decai’s house, a crowd had started to gather around, whispering and speculating.

“What’s going on?”

“No idea. Must be serious if the investigators are here.”

“Maybe the Jiangs offended someone?”

“Who knows? Both parents went to work today. Looks like only their daughter is home.”

The whispers varied. Some neighbors who had a good relationship with the Jiang family were genuinely worried for them. Uncle Fu Man, a warmhearted neighbor, saw the situation and immediately rushed to the garment factory where Jiang Decai and his wife worked to inform them.

But others who didn’t like the Jiang family were gloating, loudly gossiping and drawing even more spectators.

Take Liu Ermao’s family, who lived across from the Jiangs. Liu Ermao’s wife didn’t have a job and stayed home looking after their three kids. Now, standing outside with her hands on her hips, she slapped her thigh and burst into shrill, ear-piercing laughter, visibly thrilled by the scene.
