Chapter 22: How the Twins Entered the Space
Qiu Yinuo was unaware of what had transpired in the village. Even if she had known, she would have given her mother and little brother a thumbs-up for their wise decision.
Indeed, the smart choice was not to provoke the main characters.
On a quiet night, when the world was still, Qiu Yinuo slipped into the space with her two soundly sleeping sons.
As expected!
No wonder these two little rascals often disappeared without a trace—it turned out they had been entering the space.
Thinking back, it made sense now why they would suddenly vanish without any explanation.
She wasn’t sure whether she could bring anyone else in, but since the twins were still too young to understand, she didn’t dare risk bringing anyone else in.
Even though she trusted some people deeply, she still didn’t want to take the risk of being taken by the government for research.
What about plants and animals though?
It seemed like she’d have to find a time to test that theory.
Qiu Yinuo had originally planned to take the twins to the library in the space to look at books. She had just lifted her right foot when she saw a black-and-white ‘big ball’ rolling down the hillside in the distance, tumbling head over heels.
Soon enough, Qiu Yinuo could clearly see what the large creature coming toward her was.
A panda!
It was a panda in her space?
How had a panda ended up here?
The panda’s backside swayed with each step. Its fat body made it clumsy, with its head bobbing left and right as it ran. It didn’t seem cute at all—in fact, it was downright terrifying.
Though she’d seen pandas online before, looking all cute and cuddly, those were domesticated animals with little wildness left in them.
But this one? Who could say? It might suddenly snap and attack anyone it encountered.
After all, this creature had fought in battles with Chi You (T/N: A mythical figure known for his martial prowess). Qiu Yinuo didn’t dare even think about it, and as soon as the thought crossed her mind to leave the space, she quickly grabbed her two children and exited.
The large black-and-white “ball” was left in the space, running around in a frenzy.
It had already sniffed the master’s scent, but when it turned around, they’re gone.
Panicked, the “big ball” spun in circles, eventually growing dizzy and losing direction. With a huff, it lay down on the ground, grumbling and whimpering in frustration.
Although the newly discovered space was fun, it still missed its mysterious, deep-thinking master.
After exiting the space, Qiu Yinuo felt her hands and feet grow cold, and waves of fear washed over her.
From now on, she would have to be more cautious when entering the space—better not take the two boys in again.
Who knew what other large, wild animals could be lurking inside?
She couldn’t understand it—how could there be a giant panda in the space?
Her mind wandered from thoughts of the panda to wondering whether, once she became familiar with it, she could touch it. She also wondered if there was bamboo inside the space, and if there wasn’t, maybe she should plant some.
Oh, and didn’t pandas like drinking milk?
Qiu Yinuo grimaced. She could barely afford milk herself, and now she was thinking about giving milk to a giant panda. She must have been going crazy.
She lay on the kang bed, unable to sleep the whole night. Just when she was about to fall asleep, Dabao kicked her awake.
“???”
Dabao opened his small mouth and let out a couple of “ah, ah” sounds.
Qiu Yinuo instantly understood—the little one was hungry.
She sighed softly and muttered, “Do other mothers feel as miserable as I do? I haven’t had a good night’s sleep since I gave birth.”
Shao Xingchen felt a twinge of guilt. He didn’t mean to, but the little bit of breast milk he could get wasn’t enough, and it wasn’t long before it woke him up from hunger.
Stretching lazily, she yawned and said, “You take your time eating, I’m going back to sleep.”
It didn’t matter whether Shao Xingchen understood her or not—she was just letting him know.
She was so exhausted that there was no way she was going to get up to burp him.
Shao Xingchen: “…”
But right now, he was hungry, and nothing mattered more than food.
He began nursing slowly, taking small sips, thinking to himself—how come his mom didn’t seem like a mom at all?
…
As soon as the weather turned cold, the neighbors started visiting more often.
Because Qiu Yinuo’s little babies were particularly adorable, they attracted quite a few curious onlookers.
The neighbors would entertain the children, gossip about who had done what, and before they knew it, the time would fly by.
One day, Aunt Yang asked, “Do you have enough milk powder?”
The twins had big appetites, and even with Qiu Yinuo’s abundant milk supply, it still wasn’t enough to keep them satisfied.
Now that they were drinking spiritual spring water every day, it didn’t seem to help—her milk only came in a fixed amount.
Sometimes she had to mix in some formula to fill them up.
Hearing Aunt Yang’s question, she immediately began to vent her frustrations.
“I feel like I might as well just feed them rice porridge,” she sighed. “Even though I have money, milk powder coupons are hard to come by, so I try to conserve as much as possible.”
Aunt Yang took three milk powder coupons out of her pocket and handed them over. “When your mother left, she was worried that the her grandsons wouldn’t have enough milk powder. She bought a lot of milk powder coupons from us old neighbors and asked me to hold onto them for you. She said if anyone had any extra, I should save them for you. You see if you can use them. The price is a bit high, though.”
Qiu Yinuo was surprised by how thorough her mother had been.
” I’ll buy them! Of course, I’ll buy them. No matter how many coupons, I’ll take them all.”
The babies’ nourishment was the most important thing. In a few months, she would be able to start introducing solid foods, and by then, they would only need one formula feed a day—no matter how expensive, it wouldn’t be too much.
By the time they were three months old, both little ones had learned to roll over.
Luckily, the bed at home was big, so they could roll around as much as they liked without any risk.
During her free time, Qiu Yinuo casually picked up a book from the library in her space, deciding to fulfill the wish she’d had when she was eighteen.
She had always wanted to read all the books in the library, but she had soon discovered that the library pavilion didn’t just have one floor—there were two, three, and maybe even more.
It seemed like she would never finish reading all the books in it, not even if she lived to be a hundred.
So, she decided to set a small goal for herself—to finish the books on the first floor of the library first.
Fortunately, time moved more slowly in the space, so she could take her time.
She had discovered this over the past few days of frequenting the space, occasionally resting there and replenishing her energy to care for the children.
One day, Qiu Yinuo was changing clothes in her room.
He Ziqing returned from outside, holding Dabao in her arms. She knocked on the door and patiently instructed, “Dabao, you and Erbao are boys, so when you enter a girl’s room, you must knock first. Do you remember?”
Qiu Yinuo couldn’t help but laugh, “He’s so young, how could he understand what you’re saying?”
He Ziqing insisted, “Just keep teaching him slowly. Say it every day. Dabao is so smart, he’ll definitely remember. And when he wants to go into someone’s room, he needs to ask for permission first.”
Qiu Yinuo took Dabao into her arms. “Alright, we’ll teach him little by little every day. He’ll remember eventually. But we can’t play favorites—Erbao has to learn too.”
At that moment, Erbao was clutching a handkerchief, having played with it all morning without a trace of boredom.
He Ziqing hurried over to Erbao and began repeating what she had just taught Dabao. But seeing that Erbao paid her no attention, maintaining a look of serious composure like a miniature old official, He Ziqing couldn’t help but want to break that mature façade.
She started searching for Erbao’s ticklish spots, trying to make him laugh and see if he’d finally drop the act.
Qiu Yinuo’s mind caught on a phrase He Ziqing had just said: “If you want to enter someone’s room, you have to knock first.”
Somehow, it made her think of her own space.
Something didn’t feel quite right.
…
That’s it—when she wanted to enter the space, all she had to do was rely on her thoughts.
But how did the twins get in?
Could it be that they also had the ability to control it with their minds? But they were just tiny babies—how could they have that kind of mental strength?
