Chapter 79: Mom’s Back
In the Vice President’s office of the Cultural Association, an elderly man with sharp eyes asked the subordinate who had just entered, “So, did you find out who wrote the anonymous letter?”
The young man shook his head. “Not yet. The letter didn’t even have a stamp, so it seems someone intentionally put it in the mailbox.”
“Vice President, we’ve already taken down the Chen family. Why should we bother with the person behind this?” the subordinate asked.
“That’s true,” the Vice President replied. “But not knowing who it is keeps me uneasy.”
Having someone watching them from behind, with eyes constantly on them, naturally made people anxious.
Though the Vice President could not do the same ruthless things that President Chen had done, he wasn’t exactly an innocent person either. Naturally, he worried about someone catching him in a small mistake.
The Vice President turned to another person in the office. “Chen Ke, what do you think about this matter?”
Chen Ke thought for a moment before responding, “I believe the person behind this must have had a grievance with President Chen, which is why they wanted to use us to take him down. There’s no need for us to be so paranoid.”
“Alright, we’ll leave this aside for now. Let’s focus on taking down President Chen’s remaining supporters. We can deal with the person behind this later.”
The three of them fell silent, reflecting on how President Chen had been taken down so suddenly.
Who would have thought that he would do something like this in his own home? Now, his whole family was implicated, and even his close ‘friends’ weren’t escaping the law’s punishment.
The situation had become a huge scandal, even affecting President Chen’s backers.
Those people were too busy to worry about him now.
…
As soon as the situation with President Chen wrapped up, Qiu Yinuo began preparing to return to the village with her younger brother.
During the days she spent writing the anonymous letter, Qiu Yinuo had packed up most of the things at home, gathering daily items that would be easy for Jinzi to carry back.
She had placed the harder-to-organize items into the space. Only at times like this could she truly appreciate the benefits of the space.
Over 200 kilometers away in Ping’an Village, Dabao could feel his mother constantly moving things into the space. Occasionally, when Grandma and Aunt Qingqing were not around, Dabao would sneak into the space to take a look.
And what he saw was astonishing: the pickled vegetable jar had even made its way in, not to mention the little chickens happily drinking the spirit water.
His space had basically turned into a warehouse, with the happiest resident being Menghua.
At that moment, Menghua was joyfully chasing after the little chickens.
It seemed that his mom would be back in a few days.
Dabao was upset. Despite sharing the same space, not once had they run into each other inside.
Fearing that his grandmother might come in, Dabao quickly left the space, not daring to stay too long.
He glanced at his younger brother, who was still fast asleep. Dabao reached out and gently touched his brother’s head, letting out a sigh. When would he finally grow up?
Then he could do whatever he wanted without restrictions.
As he thought about this, his eyelids grew heavy. Before long, he was yawning nonstop.
As his breathing became steady, Erbao suddenly opened his eyes.
His gaze was cool and calm, far beyond his age. At that moment, 3224 flashed into view. “Big Boss, please, I beg you to take action!”
Erbao blinked slowly, brain already running through complex equations that almost blinded 3224 with how fast they flashed.
“This equation… is this the breakthrough you discovered back in Y-Lab?”
3224 practically danced in the air with excitement. “Yes! Yes! Use it, please! I believe in you, Boss. You’ll definitely be the one to build the first aircraft carrier in China during this era!”
Erbao yawned lazily, his little mouth opening wide once again.
He completely ignored 3224’s words, his eyelids already starting to droop and fight against each other.
3224, still waiting for a response, was stunned when instead of an answer, he heard the sound of Erbao’s little snores.
Fuming, 3224 crossed his arms and growled, “Shao Beichen, do you really think you’re worthy of me saving you from so many assassination attempts?”
“Woo woo woo, you Earth people don’t take me seriously at all,” 3224 lamented dramatically.
“You’re a bad guy. You’re not even as good as your cheap older brother, at least he gave me the cute name Menghua.”
If Dabao had been awake, he would’ve definitely said, “Didn’t you complain about that name being too old-fashioned?”
After napping, Dabao and Erbao would be carried outside by Cheng Hongying and Qingqing to bask in the sun.
The temperature in mid-to-late April had already reached around twenty degrees, with cooler mornings and evenings.
Dabao often glanced toward the door, feeling like his mother was about to return.
Cheng Hongying noticed this and, her heart softening, reached over to pat his little head. “Dabao, are you missing your mom?”
Dabao didn’t respond. Missing her might be an overstatement. After all, he wasn’t a baby who still needed milk.
Seeing Dabao’s hopeful gaze still fixed on the door, Cheng Hongying’s temper flared. “Those two troublemakers! They start partying as soon as they leave the house. Especially that Qiu Yinuo, she doesn’t even know the kids miss her.”
He Ziqing opened her mouth but hesitated.
She had a strong feeling that Qiu Yinuo’s delay in returning had something to do with her own matters.
Cheng Hongying noticed her hesitation and asked, “Qingqing, do you have something to say to me?”
He Ziqing hesitated, then spoke with resolve. “Auntie, I can’t hide it from you any longer.”
“Qingqing, please don’t talk like that, I’m worried. Did Niu’er and Jinzi get into trouble?”
“No, it’s not them who got into trouble. It could be me.”
For the past few days, He Ziqing had been in emotional turmoil. She couldn’t continue living as if nothing had happened while others risked everything for her.
With that, she confessed everything she had done.
Cheng Hongying stared at her in a daze. “So you and Niu’er suddenly came back because you beat up that president or whatever?”
“Yes.”
“And the reason those two siblings are late coming home now is also because of that same president?”
“I’m not sure. That’s why I’m so worried. Auntie, I want to go back and check on them tomorrow.” She bowed deeply. “Auntie, I’m sorry for causing you trouble. I let you misunderstand Sister Yinuo for so long, thinking she just wanted you to help take care of the kids. But in truth, she brought me back to help me lay low.”
For a moment, Cheng Hongying didn’t know what to say. She was still angry that the brat only came home when she had no other options. If there had been any other way, she probably wouldn’t have returned at all.
But then she grabbed He Ziqing’s hand tightly. “You can’t go back.”
“What?”
“If they really are busy cleaning up your mess, then going back now would be walking straight into a trap.”
He Ziqing blinked in confusion. “Auntie, you’re not mad at me?”
“Now that the matter’s out, there’s no point in being angry with you. Besides, you didn’t do anything wrong. No, I’ll go check on them tomorrow. You stay here and take care of the kids for me. Don’t go back until that president is dealt with.”
Hearing this, He Ziqing couldn’t hold back her tears.
“Why are you crying? I’m not angry with you. Besides, if that girl’s willing to help you, it just shows you’re a good person.”
Just then, a familiar voice rang out from outside the door. “Dabao, Erbao, Mommy’s home!”
