Chapter 13: 0487
When I woke up, it was already afternoon.
“Wuwu—” Lu Xiaoxi stretched lazily, her voice soft and weak, like a cat’s mewl.
Rubbing my eyes, the light outside the window was particularly glaring.
Last night, in order not to be discovered by Li Mu, I pretended to sleep, and while pretending, I actually fell asleep.
I slept until the afternoon, with the sun shining on my backside.
I opened the door, and sure enough, Li Mu was sitting on the sofa, horizontally watching a drama on his phone, with a bag of buns, fried dough sticks, and soy milk on the table.
“Did you stay up all night reading my novel last night?” Li Mu teased knowingly.
“Who read it? Only people as perverted as you would like what you write.” Lu Xiaoxi rolled her eyes dramatically.
“Your eye boogers are about to fall out.”
“Mind your own business!” Lu Xiaoxi angrily rushed into the bathroom to brush her teeth and wash her face…
“I bought those buns this morning, eat them while they’re hot.” Li Mu lifted his chin, pointing at the buns on the table.
“They’re all cold now.”
“What I just said was for the Lu Xiaoxi in the morning, not for the Lu Xiaoxi in the afternoon.”
“Cut it out, which shop did you buy them from? They taste terrible.”
Though she said that, Lu Xiaoxi was still eating the buns voraciously.
“Your eating style is as elegant as a pig.”
“Can you not mimic the way I talk, Li Mu?”
Lu Xiaoxi felt frustrated; she had just gotten up and already had to bicker with this annoying guy.
She must have destroyed the galaxy in her past life to end up with Li Mu as her neighbor in this life.
“These buns and fried dough sticks are two yuan a serving, and the soy milk is one fifty, remember to transfer me.”
“No need to give change, the rest is your tip for running errands.”
Lu Xiaoxi found the WeChat user marked as [Idiot Li] and transferred ten yuan.
A breakfast cost her ten yuan, which felt like a loss.
If she had known, she wouldn’t have tipped Li Mu.
She decided that she would give Li Mu’s novel a five-star review later.
“Not enough, it should be eleven fifty.”
“Here, now it should be enough!” Lu Xiaoxi transferred another five yuan to [Idiot Li].
One five-star review wasn’t enough; she wanted to give ten!
Although she had slept until the afternoon, she still felt a bit sleepy.
School was starting soon, and Lu Xiaoxi realized she couldn’t stay up so late anymore.
Tonight, she would go to bed on time at eleven; no one could stop her.
“Lu Xiaoxi, let’s buy a projector.”
Li Mu said leisurely.
There was no TV here, and it always felt empty.
He hadn’t watched TV before, but as long as someone was home, the TV had to be on.
In such a big house, it felt strangely quiet without any sound.
TVs were too expensive, so buying a projector as a second choice would be fine.
“Is it like the ones in the cinema?” Lu Xiaoxi had never been to a cinema; her concept of a projector was limited to the small machine on the whiteboard in middle school that could project the teacher’s slides onto a white cloth.
That projector was not clear at all; if the sunlight was too bright, she couldn’t even see the words, and closing the curtains didn’t help.
“The ones in the cinema cost over ten thousand yuan; we can buy a cheaper one for just over three hundred, we can split it in half.”
“After we buy it, where will we watch it?”
“I have an empty wall in my room.”
Lu Xiaoxi looked disgusted, “Then I would have to go to your room to watch it?”
“Or we can clear out a wall here.”
Where to watch didn’t matter to Li Mu. If it was in his room, he could lie on the bed anytime, which was definitely more comfortable than the sofa in the living room.
But considering Lu Xiaoxi’s opinion, putting the projector in the living room was the best choice.
A room was a private space; any normal person wouldn’t want their room to be frequently visited.
Except for those with good relationships; for someone like him, with Lu Xiaoxi, who had a relationship that wavered between acquaintances and strangers… it was better to keep their rooms separate, just like back home, occasionally visiting each other was enough to maintain their thin relationship.
“Can we clear it out?” Lu Xiaoxi looked up at the cross-stitch hanging on the wall that said [For a Prosperous Home and Everything Alike], uncertain.
This cross-stitch symbolizing family harmony would lose its significance once taken down.
She had always believed in such things.
“Of course, it won’t be a problem. I used to shoot at the cross-stitch from my hometown with a toy gun, and it’s still fine now.”
“Alright, alright, I know you were naughty as a child; come help me.” Lu Xiaoxi pulled over a stool, and in her slippers, her delicate little feet carefully stepped up.
Li Mu stood beside her, using his foot to stabilize the stool to prevent it from tipping over.
After taking down the cross-stitch, Lu Xiaoxi placed it in her room.
The wall was very clean, more than enough for the projector screen.
“Then I’ll place the order, and we can watch TV here.”
“Hmm, how much is it? I’ll send you the money.”
“Send me one hundred fifty; I’ll cover the change.”
“Stop acting like a big shot; if you’re paying, pay half.” Lu Xiaoxi puffed up in anger.
“Then send me one hundred eighty.”
“I sent it; the extra is my generosity.”
Li Mu’s phone vibrated repeatedly.
He received a WeChat transfer from [Little Pig Lu]—
He received a WeChat transfer from [Little Pig Lu]—
He received a WeChat transfer from [Little Pig Lu]—
……
Lu Xiaoxi sent a total of seven transfers, the first six being thirty yuan each.
The first six just happened to add up to one hundred eighty yuan.
Li Mu felt embarrassed; was Lu Xiaoxi really that bored?
Clearly, it was something that could be solved with one transfer, but she insisted on splitting it into six, was she trying to annoy him?
The last transfer was a pitiful four yuan and eighty-seven cents…
“Following the traditional virtue of asking when you don’t understand, what does your last transfer of four yuan and eighty-seven cents mean?”
“It means 0487; you can guess what it is. I’m going down to buy groceries; do you want anything?”
“Can you make sweet and sour ribs?”
“Sure, you cook the rice, and I’ll have the dish ready in a bit. Just be careful not to add too much water, or it will turn into porridge.”
Lu Xiaoxi tidied her hair, confirming there were no stray hairs, and quickly left the house.
Li Mu got up and strode into the kitchen.
This was the first time he had entered the kitchen in the two years since his mom had strictly forbidden him from doing so.
Although it was just cooking rice, he was determined to take it seriously.
This time he was smart; to avoid repeating past mistakes, he directly followed an online cooking tutorial.
After a while of pondering, he finally understood how to cook.
Please allow him to be proud for ten seconds.
After cooking the rice, he plopped back down on the sofa.
He continued to ponder what Lu Xiaoxi meant by 0487.
After racking his brain and still not figuring it out, he decided to consult the all-knowing internet.
After searching, he discovered that 0487 was actually a numerical pun.
Converted, it meant “You are an idiot”…
