Chapter 15: Close

Mo Sheng watched as Yi Chen approached.

Professor Zhou’s face lit up when he saw him. He exchanged a few words with Yi Chen and patted his shoulder approvingly.This old professor’s hair seemed to be thinning more and more.The only reason Mo Sheng knew this renowned law professor was because of Yi Chen. Back then, Yi Chen was constantly busy with his studies, tutoring, and department responsibilities, leaving her with little time to see him. Wanting to spend more time together, she began attending his department’s lectures whenever she was free. She ended up sitting through an entire semester of Professor Zhou’s criminal law course.

Yet, even now, she barely understood the basic concept of “presumption of innocence.”

Yi Chen, on the other hand, had attended just a few of her advanced mathematics classes at her insistence, but he was still able to help her review and solve problems by the end of the semester.She wasn’t sure what Yi Chen had said, but Professor Zhou glanced at her, nodded with a smile, and then walked away.

Curious, Mo Sheng asked when Yi Chen returned, “What did you say to him?”

“I told him I came back with a friend to take a look.” Yi Chen eyed her strangely.

“Professor Zhou still remembers you.”

“Really?” Mo Sheng hesitated.

“I must have left a deep impression on him.”She had certainly embarrassed herself in his class.Professor Zhou never called roll; instead, he randomly selected students to answer questions. One unfortunate day, she was the one chosen. She could still recall his expression as he asked, “How do you think A, B, C, and D should be sentenced?”She had been utterly confused. Who were A, B, C, and D?

And what about the other legal terms—Jia, Yi, Bing, Ding?Panicked, she tugged on Yi Chen’s sleeve under the desk, hoping for help.

But he coolly replied, “I wasn’t listening.”Oh, right. They had just argued, and Yi Chen was still upset with her. But was it really necessary to leave her to fend for herself?Flustered, she blurted out, “Put them all in jail.”The classroom went silent for a second before erupting in laughter. A boy called out, “Professor, she’s not from our department!”

“Oh?” Professor Zhou said with interest.

“Miss, are you interested in criminal law?”More laughter filled the room. Someone shouted, “Professor, she’s just here with her boyfriend!”

The professor, amused and easygoing, asked, “Whose girlfriend is this?”

His tone made it sound as if he was looking for the owner of a lost item.Yi Chen had no choice but to stand up, clearly embarrassed. “Mine.”Professor Zhou, who was familiar with Yi Chen, shook his head and said with a teasing but serious tone, “Student He, academic success isn’t enough. Family education is just as
