Early in the morning, just as the Jiang family finished breakfast, the sound of hurried footsteps echoed through the courtyard.
“Where’s my precious granddaughter?!”
“Rubbish! She’s my granddaughter! Who do you think you are?!”
Chun Tao rushed inside. “Madam, the Han family and the Chen family have arrived.”
The Jiang family quickly went out to welcome them.
In the central courtyard, two old men were already in the middle of a heated argument.
Master Chen fumed, “Yuanxi’s surname is Jiang! Jiang! Her mother’s surname is Chen, so I am her real grandfather!”
“Real grandfather, my foot! Yuanxi is listed in the Han family’s genealogy now. She’s my granddaughter! You’re just an outsider!” Duke Han retorted, unwilling to back down.
The two old men quarreled until their faces turned red.
The Chen and Han family members had to hold them back to prevent a physical fight.
Jiang Fengyuan watched the scene, at a loss for what to do.
Meanwhile, Jiang Yuanxi happily trotted over and grabbed each old man by the hand.
“You’re both my grandfathers, and I love you both,” she declared, settling the matter in one breath.
Master Chen chuckled, “See that? My granddaughter knows better than to argue with a fool.”
Duke Han glared. “Hmph! As if I’d stoop to your level.”
With that, the two families finally relaxed.
Madam Han and Madam Chen stepped forward, examining Jiang Yuanxi from head to toe.
Madam Chen smiled. “Mother, Old Madam, don’t worry. Yuanxi is fine.”
The women gathered together, relieved.
Originally, they had wanted to visit yesterday, but considering that Yuanxi had just reunited with her parents, they held back until today.
Jiang Yuanxi sat comfortably on a small bench while Duke Han peeled lychees for her, and Master Chen fanned her with a large feather fan.
Yet, neither of them looked the least bit resentful.
[Other people only have one set of grandparents. I have two—plus a fortune in family wealth. If I’m not the lady of the house, then who is?]
Jiang Yuanxi was delighted.
The people nearby struggled to hold back their laughter.
Jiang Yuanxi’s gaze landed on Han Qianhua, who was sitting in the hall.
[By now, Godmother should be pregnant… Why hasn’t there been any news?]
Inside the hall, Han Qianhua looked downcast, while Wu Jiping sat beside her, offering comfort.
Since marrying into the Han family and being officially recorded in their genealogy, Wu Jiping could now hear Yuanxi’s thoughts.
“Qianhua, don’t worry about it,” he said softly, handing her a cup of tea.
Jiang Yuanxi turned her eyes toward Wu Jiping.
[Could it be… that Godfather is the problem?]
“Pfft!”
Han Qianhua spat out her tea, her face turning an alarming shade of red.
Chen Tian’en and Chen Tianze silently sipped their tea, casting sidelong glances at Wu Jiping.
Wu Jiping, however, remained calm.
He patted his wife’s back and whispered near her ear, “You know whether I am or not.”
Han Qianhua’s eyes twinkled with mischief as she gave him a playful glare, her cheeks burning even hotter.
Madam Chen, flustered, thought to herself, Where does Yuanxi learn all these things at such a young age?! How does she know everything?!
Completely unaware of the awkward atmosphere, Jiang Yuanxi focused her thoughts again.
[Godmother is destined to have a son… so why isn’t there any movement in the lineage?]
[Oh! There it is! The lineage just moved!]
Everyone looked at each other in confusion.
“What moved? What lineage?”
Jiang Yuanxi suddenly left her grandfathers behind and ran straight to Han Qianhua.
She pressed her small hands against Han Qianhua’s belly and felt the faintest hint of life within.
[It’s real! I’m going to have a little brother!]
Han Qianhua nearly dropped her tea in shock.
Duke Han and Madam Han, on the other hand, struggled to contain their excitement.
All of Shengjing knew about Yuanxi’s abilities.
If she said there was a child, then there was a child.
Madam Chen immediately suggested, “Madam Han, your health is delicate. Should I call a doctor from our manor to check your pulse?”
Before Han Qianhua could respond, Madam Han grabbed Madam Chen’s hands eagerly.
“Yes, dear child, please do!”
Madam Chen could clearly feel the old lady’s hands trembling.
Soon, Chun Zhi brought in Doctor Sun.
“How is she, Doctor?” Madam Han and Duke Han stood by anxiously.
Doctor Sun put away his pulse-taking kit and smiled.
“Congratulations, Madam! You are indeed expecting. However, the child is still very small, so an ordinary physician wouldn’t have been able to detect it.”
Madam Han burst into tears of joy and immediately took out a large gold pendant, stuffing it into Doctor Sun’s hands.
Doctor Sun’s eyes crinkled in delight.
Meanwhile, Jiang Yuanxi pouted.
[If I had known, I would’ve taken her pulse myself. That gold… my gold is gone!]
Han Qianhua pressed a hand to her belly in disbelief.
She… was really pregnant?
The overwhelming joy left her momentarily stunned.
Wu Jiping, too, took a moment to process before pulling out a silver note worth a hundred taels and stuffing it into Jiang Yuanxi’s hands.
“A small token of gratitude from your godfather.”
Instantly forgetting her earlier disappointment, Jiang Yuanxi beamed and accepted the money happily—completely missing the hidden meaning behind Wu Jiping’s words.
Both the Chen and Jiang families rejoiced at the good news.
At that moment, a servant hurried inside.
“Master, Madam, Eunuch Cao has arrived.”
The three families immediately went out to greet him.
Eunuch Cao smiled and announced, “His Majesty has sent me to escort Princess Xihe to the palace.”
Given the emperor’s personal request, Madam Chen accompanied her daughter into the palace.
Eunuch Cao entered quietly.
“Your Majesty, Princess Xihe has arrived.”
Chen Xinwan performed a graceful bow. “Greetings, Your Majesty. Greetings, Noble Consort.”
Jiang Yuanxi copied her mother’s movements perfectly.
“No need for formalities.”
The emperor personally approached and examined Jiang Yuanxi.
She lifted her skirt and walked over.
“Hmm, why do you look even thinner?” he remarked.
Jiang Yuanxi was secretly overjoyed.
[Yes, yes! I’ve lost weight! I eat meat every day, but I’m still getting thinner!]
Madam Chen, however, discreetly glanced at the emperor.
She’s actually gained two pounds. Where does he see any weight loss?
Even the emperor was willing to lie with a straight face.
After sending Madam Chen away, the emperor carried Jiang Yuanxi to Consort Xian’s Baochen Palace.
Inside, the Fourth Prince, Jun Molin, had woken up, with Consort Xian tending to him.
Dressed in an elegant palace robe, she exuded grace and beauty.
“Greetings, Your Majesty.”
The emperor personally helped her up.
“I brought Yuanxi to see Lin’er.”
Jiang Yuanxi looked up at Consort Xian.
[Wow! What a beautiful auntie! Emperor Father is so lucky to have so many gorgeous women around him!]
Consort Xian finally noticed the little child in his arms.
During the title ceremony, she had only seen her from afar.
Seeing her up close now, she found Yuanxi truly adorable.
“Auntie, hug hug!”
Without hesitation, Jiang Yuanxi abandoned the emperor.
Consort Xian smiled, enchanting everyone.
[So pretty!]
The emperor rolled his eyes.
This little traitor, so easily distracted by beauty.
Consort Xian brushed her fingers over her face.
Once, she had been the most beautiful woman in Shengjing.
But ever since she had her son, worry had filled her days, and white strands had begun to appear in her hair.
Even so, hearing someone call her beautiful again made her happy.
But she would trade everything—even her beauty—for her son’s safety.
Carrying Jiang Yuanxi, she approached Jun Molin, who lay resting on the bed.
She pointed. “Yuanxi, this is your Fourth Brother.”
Jiang Yuanxi’s eyes gleamed.
[The little monk from under the temple altar… turned out to be the Fourth Prince?!]
No wonder she sensed something special about him.
In the novel, only the Fourth Prince had this rare ghost-attracting constitution.
Jiang Yuanxi climbed onto the bed, waved at Jun Molin, and whispered—
“Little Bald Dunkey?”
