“My Mother is Brilliant!”
Jiang Yuanxi silently gave a thumbs up to Madam Chen in her heart.
[But why did mother suddenly want to call a doctor for big brother?] Jiang Yuanxi wondered.
Madam Chen suddenly realized that what she had done indeed seemed abrupt.
Jiang Yuansheng asked in confusion, “My body is fine.”
Why would mother suddenly think of getting him a doctor?
Madam Chen immediately put on a weak appearance, her face showing worry. “After this incident, I’ve realized that health is more important than anything else. From now on, our family will have a doctor check each of us every month.”
Jiang Yuansheng was about to refuse when he heard Madam Chen continue, “Don’t be like me, feeling weak after giving birth to Yuanxi. Serious illnesses often begin with small ones. A check-up is really necessary.”
“Now I understand,” Jiang Yuanxi thought, as it was an unexpected yet wise move.
Jiang Yuansheng closed his mouth. His mother was right. A check-up wouldn’t take too long.
Dr. Sun was the Chen family’s personal doctor.
After Madam Chen married, her parents, not at ease, specially arranged for him to care for her.
Therefore, she trusted him.
Jiang Yuansheng placed his wrist on the pulse pillow, and Dr. Sun took his pulse.
The worry between his brows deepened.
Jiang Yuansheng felt uneasy.
He wasn’t afraid of being laughed at by the doctor, but he dreaded seeing the doctor furrow his brow in disapproval.
Could it be that he was really suffering from some serious illness?
After a long time, Dr. Sun withdrew his hand from the pulse pillow.
Madam Chen immediately stood up and asked, “Doctor, how is my son’s health?”
Dr. Sun replied, “Madam, your eldest son is merely suffering from weak qi and blood. He appears fine, but his pulse is weak, as if he has ingested something abnormal.”
The meaning was clear, subtly implying that he had been poisoned, someone had poisoned him.
Jiang Yuansheng was shocked.
So, the reason mother had ordered to capture Lan Xi earlier was because of this?
Madam Chen staggered back three steps, and Chun Zhi quickly supported her.
What her little daughter said was true!
Lan Xin and Lan Xi had been sent by the second house back then, and she had thought it was out of kindness.
She never expected they would almost cost Yuansheng his life.
Over the years, all expenses in the Duke’s residence were managed by the main house, and the second house dared not do anything!
“Is there any way to save him?”
Dr. Sun replied, “Fortunately, it hasn’t been long since he consumed it. As long as he stops using that item and takes good medicine, he will recover.”
Madam Chen breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing this.
“Looks like big brother is saved!” Jiang Yuanxi thought happily.
After all, the Jiang family had such a promising child.
In the book, if Jiang Yuansheng didn’t die, he would definitely become famous in the capital in the future.
[However, even though mother captured Lan Xi, they didn’t just poison big brother’s food. The jade pillow he sleeps on and the wolf-hair brush he holds are also laced with poison.]
Jiang Yuansheng was greatly shaken.
He remembered how Lan Xi had strongly recommended the jade pillow and how he treasured the wolf-hair brush.
He immediately stood up in alarm.
“Mother, the academy assigned homework. I’ll go check on it first.”
After Jiang Yuansheng left, Madam Chen immediately ordered Chun Zhi.
“Replace everything in the rooms of the young masters. Buy a new set of writing materials for Yuansheng.”
Chun Zhi replied, “Madam, there might not be enough space in the storeroom for all the young masters’ belongings.”
The items the young masters used had all been carefully purchased by Madam Chen from outside.
Even if the young masters didn’t need them, they had to be stored in the storeroom.
But replacing so many items at once might truly take up all the space.
Madam Chen hesitated for a moment. “The items we replace, repaint them and send them all to the second house.”
“Understood,” Chun Zhi answered.
“By the way, don’t let the second house know.”
[Haha,] Jiang Yuanxi secretly laughed in her heart.
[My mother is really clever!] Jiang Yuanxi praised.
[The second house has been tampering with the daily items of my brothers for years. They poisoned their own items and then used them. It looks like they’ve brought trouble upon themselves.]
Madam Chen felt proud.
She had never cared much for the inner family rivalries, but that didn’t mean she wouldn’t retaliate.
The second house had repeatedly harmed her children, so she had no qualms about striking back.
For all the sacrifices made by the main house for the Duke’s residence, yet to be secretly sabotaged, it made Madam Chen’s heart burn with anger.
The next morning, Jiang Fengyuan, with dark circles under his eyes, saw that Madam Chen was in the same condition.
“Why does mother look so weary?”
Madam Chen shook her head, her expression calm.
Jiang Fengyuan thought her mother was upset with him for not seeking justice for their daughter.
But the ancient concept of filial piety was paramount, and since Duke An was his biological father, even if he was unwilling, he had to endure.
The meal was filled with thoughts from both of them.
After breakfast, Jiang Yuansheng brought something over.
“Mother, where is sister?” Jiang Yuansheng immediately asked as he entered.
Madam Chen looked toward the inner room. “She’s inside nursing. I’ll bring her out soon.”
“Father, mother, I have something to report.” Jiang Yuansheng said as he took a broken brush from his sleeve and placed it on the table.
Jiang Fengyuan was surprised. “Why did you break it?”
It was the red-green brush that Duke An personally gave Jiang Yuansheng when he passed the examination. Jiang Yuansheng had always cherished it.
But now…
Jiang Yuansheng knelt down and said, “I accidentally broke it today, but found that inside, it was filled with harmful tiger-wolf medicine. If used for a long time, it would cause both qi and blood weakness, and lead to death from poisoning.”
“It’s impossible!” Jiang Fengyuan suddenly stood up.
“He, he is your grandfather!” Jiang Fengyuan collapsed, suddenly weak.
Yuansheng never lied.
Grandfather?
His father didn’t even acknowledge him as a son, let alone a grandson.
Thinking of this, Jiang Fengyuan collapsed back onto his chair.
Madam Chen waved her hand, signaling the maids in the room to slowly retreat and close the door.
“Not only that, but I also found that the items in the rooms have been tampered with.”
Madam Chen followed up, “General, Dr. Sun examined Yuansheng and found signs of both qi and blood weakness, and poisoning.”
“This time, Duke An’s visit was also orchestrated by Lan Xin. Both of them were instructed by the second house.”
Jiang Fengyuan suddenly felt like a joke.
All these years, he had devoted himself to protecting the Duke’s residence, but all he got in return was the constant harm to his children.
Jiang Yuansheng found it odd.
He had just taken away the brushes and jade pillow, and now mother had sent someone to replace the daily items.
And when he reported, mother didn’t seem particularly shocked.
A thought suddenly crossed his mind.
He tentatively asked, “Mother, can you also hear sister’s thoughts?”
Madam Chen and Jiang Fengyuan both looked at him in surprise.
Jiang Yuansheng understood.
He felt a bit disappointed.
So, he wasn’t the only one who could hear his sister’s thoughts.
At that moment, Jiang Yuanxi was carried out from the inner room.
[Ah, what’s going on with father, mother, and big brother? Why does the atmosphere feel strange?]
Did something happen while she was away?
Jiang Yuanxi was extremely curious, her eyes darting between the three.
[Father looks so sad. If I didn’t know better, I’d think father had passed away.]
Madam Chen pursed her lips, her face unreadable.
Jiang Yuansheng felt a bit of a smile bubbling up. What was going on?
Looking at Jiang Fengyuan’s deeply furrowed brow, Jiang Yuanxi felt a little heartbroken.
[In that life, father was bound by filial piety and dedicated his whole life to the Duke’s residence, but in the end, when the second house caused trouble, Duke An, in order to make peace, framed father with charges of treason.]
[Duke An had no paternal affection for father at all.]
This remark was like a knife piercing deep into Jiang Fengyuan’s heart.
[Ah, why is father crying?]
Madam Chen and Jiang Yuansheng simultaneously looked up and indeed saw the eight-foot-tall man crying uncontrollably.
The two wanted to comfort him but didn’t know where to begin.
Jiang Yuanxi sighed again. Madam Chen could already sense that her daughter was about to say something unpleasant.
[Father is too fragile, crying over such a small thing. If he knew that it was Duke An who ordered the assassination on the battlefield, wouldn’t he cry even more?]
Madam Chen inhaled sharply, trying to maintain her composure.
Jiang Yuansheng silently thought, “My father is truly pitiful.”
