The guard at the entrance of the Duke of Anguo’s residence couldn’t help but glance back.
Were all the servants of the Duke of Anguo’s household this foolish?
Moreover, that little girl looked somewhat familiar.
Jiang Yuanxi climbed down the steps and walked up to the captain of the guards.
“Uncle,” she called, waving at him.
The captain crouched down.
Jiang Yuanxi took out a jade pendant from her chest and handed it to him.
Upon seeing it, the captain immediately knelt on the ground.
“This humble servant greets the young lady.” This was the Emperor’s jade pendant—seeing it was as if seeing the Emperor himself.
Jiang Yuanxi took back the jade pendant and carefully tucked it into her chest.
Uncle Emperor’s jade pendant was so useful!
She whispered a few words into the captain’s ear before climbing back up the steps.
“Ahem, our second madam has spoken—none of you lowly commoners will get a single coin in compensation!”
The people demanding justice engraved the names Wu Cuirou and Jiang Hui deeply in their minds.
Jiang Yuancheng continued, “You bunch of weaklings think you can go against the Duke of Anguo’s residence? Not a chance!”
His mouth went dry from shouting, but the crowd, as if anchored by a steady force, only shouted in anger without actually charging forward.
[If you want to provoke someone, insult their family!]
Jiang Yuancheng suddenly had an epiphany.
“Damn it! Our madam and young master said that anyone who appeared at the Duke of Anguo’s gate today, as long as they aren’t dead, will be hunted down and their entire family wiped out!”
“Kill them all!” Jiang Yuanxi stood on tiptoes and shouted viciously.
The crowd finally stirred.
Jiang Yuanxi could hear the scraping of hoes and pitchforks against the ground.
Then, someone in the back shouted, “Brothers, if we don’t kill everyone in the Duke of Anguo’s residence today, our entire families will be wiped out! If not now, then when? Charge!”
“Beat these corrupt officials to death!”
Jiang Yuanxi and Jiang Yuancheng immediately hid behind the guards.
“Uncle, protect me! I’m so scared!” she cried in her childish voice.
The captain of the guards carried the two onto the courtyard wall behind the crowd.
In no time, the gate of the Duke of Anguo’s residence was smashed to pieces again.
“Our madam loves wearing green dresses and pink flowers in her hair—remember that!” Jiang Yuanxi shouted from the wall.
“And our young lady—Jiang Ruowei!”
“Uncles, aunts, big brothers, charge!”
[I’m such a good person!]
Under their instigation, more and more people stormed into the residence.
The captain of the guards stared blankly.
Just how deep was their grudge against the Duke of Anguo’s household?
And with so many people, there was no way the small force from the Ministry of Justice could hold them back.
Once the crowd had rushed in, the captain put the two down and hurried back to call for reinforcements.
Jiang Yuanxi and Jiang Yuancheng swaggered away.
Job done—time to retreat and remain nameless heroes.
Jiang Yuancheng was thrilled and took his sister to a tavern.
Up on the second floor, Jiang Yuanxi suddenly spotted a familiar face.
[It’s Xu Ziyi! Why is Princess Sister’s husband drinking alone?]
Ever since his arranged marriage, Xu Ziyi had spent his free time drowning in alcohol at the tavern.
He usually drank himself into oblivion.
No one in his household could do anything about it.
His mother and father chased after him to the tavern.
Madam Xu hugged her son and sobbed, “My son, if you don’t like that damned princess, we can cancel the engagement!”
“Nonsense!” Mr. Xu wore a troubled expression. “This is a royal marriage—decreed by His Majesty himself. It’s not something we can just back out of!”
Xu Ziyi wailed, “Father, Mother, I already love someone else!”
Fueled by alcohol, Xu Ziyi poured out his heart.
“The one I love is… a man.”
“What?!” Mr. Xu roared.
Madam Xu stopped crying instantly.
The entire tavern fell silent, eyes wide with shock.
Dear heavens, were they witnessing a massive scandal?
The princess’s future husband had just admitted he was… into men!
The diners choked on their food, neither able to swallow nor spit it out. Would they be executed for overhearing this?
Mr. Xu frantically searched the floor for a stick.
Forget breaking the engagement—this marriage must happen!
Jiang Yuanxi watched, giggling to herself.
So this was how adults played their games? How interesting!
She let go of Jiang Yuancheng’s hand and walked up to Xu Ziyi.
“Big brother, the person you’re marrying is actually your true love.”
Xu Ziyi looked up, his drunken eyes barely focusing.
When he finally recognized the little girl in front of him, he immediately fell to his knees.
“Xu Ziyi greets the young lady!”
The alcohol wore off instantly.
This was the girl who sat in the Emperor’s lap and used his dragon robe to wipe her mouth.
Jiang Yuanxi glanced at the drunken fool in front of her, then ran to Madam Xu.
“Grandma, let me tell you something…”
Jiang Yuanxi whispered everything she knew.
“A match made in heaven!” Madam Xu laughed out loud. Who would have thought that such a huge misunderstanding had unfolded between her son and the princess?
Madam Xu turned to thank the little girl—only to find she had vanished.
She smacked her son. “You idiot! You didn’t even know if the person you loved was a man or a woman!”
Xu Ziyi was utterly confused.
Meanwhile, Jiang Yuanxi followed her brother up to the third floor—where she encountered yet another drunkard.
This one, however, looked much sharper.
The eldest prince, Jun Moye, sat beside four or five empty wine jars.
For days, he had searched the entire city but couldn’t find the girl named “Jiang Ruowei.”
Heartbroken, he drowned his sorrows in the tavern.
Now, seeing a tiny figure staring at him from the staircase, he felt irritated.
“What are you looking at?” The prince snapped. “Keep staring, and I’ll gouge your eyes out!”
Jiang Yuanxi’s face fell—she had been about to help him!
Jiang Yuancheng was the first to object.
“What are you yelling for, you drunkard? Try shouting at my sister again!” He jabbed a finger at the prince’s nose.
Back in the day, he was the biggest bully in the capital—messing with his sister meant messing with him!
Jun Moye smirked.
Two little brats dared talk back to him?
He stood up, his towering figure casting a shadow over them.
His gaze was dark and menacing.
Jiang Yuancheng gulped.
“Sister… who is this guy? He looks tough.”
Jun Moye suddenly felt like teasing them.
He picked Jiang Yuanxi up like a little monkey.
“Put my sister down!” Jiang Yuancheng glared at him.
“No one taught you that in front of an important figure, you should kneel?”
He flipped Jiang Yuanxi upside down and smacked her bottom several times.
Jiang Yuanxi’s mind went blank.
“You still dare glare at me, little brat?” Jun Moye sneered.
Seeing the fury on her face, he suddenly felt much better.
Jiang Yuancheng backed away slightly.
This man was doomed.
No one could hit his sister and get away with it.
Jiang Yuanxi’s face flushed red with anger, tears welling up.
“I curse you!” she wailed. “You’ll fall down the stairs, get hit by a flowerpot, and your wife won’t recognize you! Then she’ll beat you up!”
Jun Moye scoffed.
Just a child’s nonsense.
Feeling satisfied, he let her go and walked downstairs.
As soon as he stepped forward—something tripped him.
He lost his balance and tumbled down the stairs.
