Chapter 110
Upon hearing that there was only one carriage, and not a particularly impressive one at that, Fan Qian immediately breathed a sigh of relief.
Then, upon hearing that Heizi’s father was dressed rather shabbily, he expressed disdain: “Last time, he came with a large entourage, servants and maids included, all dressed in gold and silver. But what did he bring out? Three sacks of rice. This time, I’m afraid all we’ll get is a few words of gratitude.”
“I’ve figured it out. That family is full of misers! They scrape and save, not like us country folk at all.” Sun Jinhua sneered, utterly contemptuous.
Fan’s mother thought of those three sacks of rice with deep regret: “Let me tell you, what’s the point of our second son being so proud? What good does it do? That was at least three big sacks of rice, worth a couple taels of silver. Instead, he insists on being stubborn, and now even those three sacks of rice are gone.”
Fan Dazhu and the others agreed wholeheartedly with Grandma’s thoughts: “It’s a waste that Second Uncle is a scholar; he’s not as clear-headed as Grandma.”
“Wasting three sacks of rice like that! Do you know how many meals of rice porridge that could have made?”
“If Second Uncle didn’t want it, he could have given it to us. We’re all his nephews after all. The future of the Fan family’s lineage will rely on us. Doesn’t he ever think about that?”
Fan Zhaodi finished his bowl of blackened gruel in silence, his small and frail body silently returning the bowl to the kitchen.
She had a vague feeling that once Grandma left, Second Uncle wouldn’t recognize these nephews as his own.
Even with the weight of filial piety, Second Uncle didn’t truly respect Grandma from the bottom of his heart; it was all about face.
Grandma, Dad, and the brothers were not as important as they thought!
Seeing Fan Zhaodi leave, Fan Sizhu raised his head and muttered, “Is Zhaodi angry?”
After all, everyone in the family had eaten, except her.
Fan’s mother snorted, “Forget about her. This is my son’s respect for me. I’ll give it to whomever I want.”
Sun Jinhua’s face was full of an ingratiating smile as she chimed in, “Mother is right! She’s just a servant girl. It’s good enough that she gets to eat. How dare she be picky?”
“She doesn’t go outside to see. During the agricultural downtime, which family gets to eat as well as us? Although she eats gruel, at least it fills her up. If she’s still not satisfied, she’ll suffer after she gets married.” Fan’s mother deliberately spoke loudly so her granddaughter in the kitchen could hear.
Fan Zhaodi indeed heard it.
She thought of her elder and second sisters’ current lives and then remembered the so-called family members who had just squatted on the ground eating.
Marriage?
Would it be the same for her if she got married?
Originally, she had thought that everyone had come through the same way, but today she clearly saw that her elder and second sisters were different from before and didn’t need to suffer from Grandma’s beatings anymore.
Her aunt was the same.
After they moved out, they lived in a big house, no longer wore patched and ill-fitting clothes, didn’t have to eat blackened gruel anymore, and could even eat steamed buns with meat.
No, it turned out not everyone lived like Grandma and Dad.
She imagined living like her aunt…
The next morning, early.
After the water woke up, she came to the warehouse behind the room for the first time.
Here was the fish glue that Li Huyu sent yesterday.
Fan Jin poured hot water to wash and groom, and was ready to shout and wake up, but found no one on the bed, heard the warehouse sound, and followed in.
“Will you eat this morning?” He saw the water clear this bag, touched this bag, loved the appearance, and asked instinctively.
The water is clear and smiling, and asks, “Can’t bear to eat! Do you know what the mall gave out?”
Last night, it got dark early and everyone was tired after a long day, so they went to bed early without a chance to talk.
Today, getting up early, she had to sell them to the mall, otherwise she wouldn’t feel at ease.
Fan Jin felt that he had already adjusted to the prices at the mall now. Seeing the excited and joyful expression on Shuiqing’s face, he guessed a big number: “Could it be several hundred yuan per catty?”
Even though it was dried goods, he felt that this fish glue was surprisingly heavy when he tried it yesterday afternoon. He feared that it might take two or three to make a catty.
However, even the mushrooms and chicken-head rice that cost over a hundred yuan per catty before, Shuiqing was unwilling to eat. She would rather eat eggs that cost seven or eight yuan per catty. Now, if this fish glue was several hundred yuan per catty, it was normal for her to be unwilling to eat it.
Shuiqing shook her head. “Fish glue is expensive. Several hundred can only buy the lowest quality.”
Fan Jin remembered that Li Huyu had said it was top-quality yesterday. His eyes widened in surprise. “It wouldn’t be over a thousand yuan per catty, would it?”
Shuiqing continued shaking her head. “Even over a thousand won’t get you the worst here.”
Fan Jin didn’t dare to continue guessing. In fact, the prices mentioned were already beyond his understanding.
After Shuiqing reported the price given by the mall, he realized that every time he thought he had adapted to the mall’s prices, the mall would surpass his expectations again!
He murmured, “Eleven thousand per catty? Is it five thousand over there?”
Could the mall really not be wrong?
Shuiqing wanted to say that based on her purchasing experience in Hua Country, this price could double when resold by the mall.
“I was thinking of not selling all of them. Huyu is still here with us, and she could teach me how to eat them. Or should I keep about five catties of each and sell the rest?” She couldn’t bear to keep too much; after all, it was all money.
“Okay, you decide.” Fan Jin had no objections.
Shuiqing adjusted the quantity and pressed the sell button.
In the next instant, 1.8 million credits were credited!
A full 1.8 million! Looking at the nearly two million balance, she blinked and looked at Fan Jin. “Now we have nearly two million in savings. Shouldn’t we buy a storage locker?”
With a storage locker, she wouldn’t have to worry about someone stealing unused gold leaves and earned silver.
Fan Jin was thinking of something else. He asked, “Didn’t you say you had self-defense equipment before? It’s just that activation or purchase is very expensive. Do we have enough money now?”
He had heard Shuiqing mention a ‘electric’ stick before, saying that a single touch could knock someone down. It was just very expensive.
After a moment of reaction, Shuiqing realized that Fan Jin was referring to an electric stick.
Such items were not commonly used and had significant destructive power, not to mention their expensive activation fees and unit prices!
Before, it wasn’t that she was unwilling, but rather she couldn’t afford it at all. She had given up on the idea, but now, reminded by Fan Jin, she found that it wasn’t that expensive.
“The activation fee is 200,000 credits, and each electric stick costs 30,000 credits.” After stating the prices, she silently bled inside.
Not that expensive, considering their two million savings, but it was actually quite costly.
Fan Jin nodded. “Why don’t you activate it first? Then buy one for each person in the family, the electric stick?”
“Just put them in the storage locker you bought first. If there’s danger, take them out. Otherwise, I’m afraid it will be too late to buy them when we need them urgently.”
Shuiqing: … When it comes to safety and protection, Fan Jin is more generous than she is!
So, she spent 100,000 credits on a cubic storage locker, another 200,000 on activation fees, and bought twelve electric sticks at 30,000 each, spending a total of 660,000 credits in one go.
But looking at the remaining balance of 1.31 million, Shuiqing felt it was well worth it!
