Shen Youran woke up to find herself transmigrated into a period novel as a cannon-fodder supporting female character. Her husband was about to marry his secret crush, the “Bai Yueguang” goddess, after her (the original wife’s) death.
On top of that, the original character’s child, born from an unknown man, was set to become a mere contrast to highlight the perfect family.
When Shen Youran saw the adorable little dumpling of a child, her heart instantly melted! Now that she had transmigrated, this was her child! She became a mom without any of the pain—what a sweet deal!
Her bad husband wanted a divorce? Fine, divorce immediately! His Bai Yueguang looked down on her? Let her! The bad husband even thought she was playing hard to get, convinced she couldn’t live without him? Please!
She directly joined the military, quickly made outstanding achievements, and soon rose to the same rank as her ex-husband, standing on equal footing with him!
But then… why did her commanding officer start looking more and more like her little dumpling? What was going on here?
I found the initial chapters of the book, up to chapter 300, to be quite engaging and well-crafted. The author displayed a strong command over storytelling, weaving together intricate plots and developing characters in a way that truly drew me into the narrative. The pacing was just right, allowing for moments of tension, character development, and world-building that kept me hooked. However, as I ventured beyond chapter 300, my enthusiasm began to wane significantly.
The chapters that followed seemed to stray from the rich storytelling that characterized the earlier sections. Instead of furthering the plot or deepening my connection to the characters, many of these later chapters felt more like fillers. It became increasingly clear that the author might have been attempting to meet a specific word count or extend the story unnecessarily. This shift in quality was disappointing, as it detracted from the overall experience of reading the book.
While I initially enjoyed the book and was captivated by the earlier chapters, the later sections felt drawn out and repetitive. This shift ultimately led to a loss of interest on my part. I believe that refining the text by removing superfluous content would not only enhance the overall quality but also honor the reader’s experience. I would love to see the author return to the strengths demonstrated in the first 300 chapters and create a more streamlined and engaging narrative. A focus on quality over quantity would surely benefit both the story and its readers.
