Chapter 19: Let’s Be Together
Tang Xiaohe and Ji Yanli turned their heads at the same time.
By the flower bed stood a couple wearing fan support outfits.
“It’s all my fault. I promised to bring you to the concert, but I didn’t take care of the tickets properly. You can hit me, scold me, anything, just please stop crying, okay?” The boy looked extremely anxious.
The girl sobbed, “I’m not blaming you… *sniff*…”
“Seeing you cry like this makes me want to cry too. I promise I’ll take you to see Chairs again. They’re so popular—they’ll definitely have more concerts. I swear!” The boy fumbled, trying to comfort his girlfriend.
“I’m not sad about missing the concert, I’m sad that all your efforts were for nothing. You stood outside the milk tea shop for two months to get those tickets, worked so hard… and now it’s all gone, all for nothing… *sob sob sob*”
The girl buried her face in the boy’s arms, crying bitterly.
Tang Xiaohe watched, feeling a little emotional.
They were clearly students, and from the boy’s faded pants, she could tell their life wasn’t easy.
She remembered when she was scammed out of over 20,000 yuan—it felt just like this: unfair, regretful, helpless.
If she hadn’t seen this scene, she would’ve happily walked into the venue without a second thought, excited for the show.
But now, after witnessing it herself, she felt a heaviness inside.
People who have been in the rain are more likely to hold umbrellas for others.
Even if she wasn’t always doing well herself, she couldn’t bear to see others suffer.
She clenched the concert tickets in her hand and looked at Ji Yanli.
He understood her instantly and gave a small nod.
So, Tang Xiaohe made up her mind and walked over to the couple.
“Hi, I have two extra tickets. If you guys need them, I’d like to give them to you.”
The girl stopped crying, and the boy’s eyes lit up. “Really? That’s amazing!”
“Can I… pay you later? I just… don’t have any money left right now,” the boy said awkwardly. He’d already spent all his savings working that summer job to buy their original tickets.
The girl hesitated a little. It was almost too perfect. They just lost their tickets, and now someone showed up with free ones. And the tickets weren’t cheap…
But the pretty girl in front of them didn’t look like a scammer at all.
She had a cute round bun tied up with Chairs-themed fan ribbons, her big eyes shining with warmth.
The guy next to her looked righteous and dependable, definitely not the type to trick anyone.
Tang Xiaohe waved her hand quickly, “No need to pay. We’re all part of the Chairs family, right?”
The boy took the tickets, hands shaking from excitement.
They had come all the way from the northwest, crossing half of China to get to Nancheng. He couldn’t bear the thought of disappointing his girlfriend.
He and the girl repeatedly thanked Tang Xiaohe and Ji Yanli, even bowing to them.
Tang Xiaohe waved her hands, flustered, “Please, don’t bow!”
She was a little embarrassed by their sincere gratitude and tried to hide behind Ji Yanli.
The girl gave Tang Xiaohe a light hug and said warmly, “Jie jie, you’re such a good person! I hope you and this gege will be happy forever!”
After they left, Ji Yanli looked at her with a half-smile.
“Heroine, where to now?”
Tang Xiaohe giggled, eyes shining.
“Would you… stay outside the venue and listen to the concert with me?”
The concert was held at an open-air stadium.
Chairs were known for their live vocals—powerful and rich—so the sound carried outside the venue quite well.
And of course, Ji Yanli agreed.
They found a spot with steps just outside the stadium.
Ji Yanli pulled out a handkerchief and carefully wiped the steps clean before letting Tang Xiaohe sit down.
“Was that a dumb thing I just did?” she asked.
Ji Yanli shook his head, firm and certain. “With me, you’re never wrong.”
His calm and absolute tone stunned Tang Xiaohe.
She stared at him, dazed.
Ji Yanli gently reached out, brushing a hand over her bowed head,
softly comforting, “I think listening from outside is kind of romantic too.”
Just then, the opening song started.
It was a cover of an old classic—**”Lost for Words”**.
> “I cannot express myself
> Where do I begin?
> How can I translate ‘I love you’
> Loneliness isn’t enough
> I want to build a bridge to you
> To create mutual understanding
> Yet the words always fall short…”
The atmosphere erupted into a frenzy.
Screams, cheers, and roars of joy burst from inside the stadium.
The sound was so overwhelming that it made Tang Xiaohe feel momentarily deaf.
In this heated yet strangely quiet moment, she saw Ji Yanli’s lips move slightly.
The next second, she threw herself into his arms.
Even if words fail, she would throw her love at him with all her might.
She understood now—Ji Yanli had said:
> “Xiaohe, let’s be together.”
