Chapter 17: I’m Married
Lin Yuan also started her first day at work, looking forward to everything about the new company.
As expected, her colleagues, while not overly enthusiastic, were still friendly.
The company environment was also good.
She was in a good mood all morning, until she ran into Meng Tian at the company.
The moment they met in the restroom, they both froze.
Meng Tian: “Lin Yuan, what are you doing here?”
“As if you don’t know.” Lin Yuan didn’t have a good face.
What else could she be doing there but working? Only someone like Meng Tian, who was a bit slow, would ask such a stupid question.
Meng Tian stood beside her, looking her up and down. Even though she was jealous, she had to admit that Lin Yuan had a face that could topple a kingdom and a figure that was curvy and alluring.
Thinking of something, she snorted disdainfully, “Lin Yuan, Ari isn’t just some place where anyone can get in. Did you use some underhanded methods?”
Lin Yuan wiped her hands with a paper towel, “Some people have dirty hearts and see everything as dirty. If you can get in, why can’t I?”
She turned and left, leaving Meng Tian alone in the restroom, stomping her feet in anger.
Lin Yuan, you just wait and see.
She washed her hands and went straight to the director’s office on the upper floor of the design department. She didn’t even knock before barging in.
She sat down on the sofa with a huff, crossing her arms, unhappy.
Meng Chengzhang, who was at his desk, glanced at her, “What’s wrong? Who made our little Miss Meng angry again?”
Meng Tian pouted, “Uncle, why does the design department hire just anyone?”
Meng Chengzhang: “When did you start caring about the design department’s personnel work?”
Meng Tian: “I don’t care, there’s someone in the design department I don’t like, you have to fire her!”
Meng Chengzhang looked at her with a doting smile, “I don’t handle personnel recruitment either, my dear. Tell me who’s bothering you, and I’ll get you back.”
“It’s still that Lin Yuan, I get annoyed just seeing her.”
Meng Chengzhang checked the company’s intranet. It was a new girl who just started today. He adjusted his glasses and smiled reassuringly, “She’s just on her internship period. I’ll find an excuse to not let her pass the internship in two months.”
Meng Tian felt a little better, “You said it.”
“When have I ever lied to you?”
Meng Tian went to Meng Chengzhang happily, affectionately linking her arm with his, “I knew you’re the best to me. By the way, Uncle, Mom asked me to invite you to dinner at home yesterday. When are you free?”
Meng Chengzhang’s body stiffened, “Tomorrow.”
Meng Tian left the office, her mood instantly changing. Although she couldn’t fire Lin Yuan immediately, she could find trouble for her and bully her for the next two months. Thinking about it, she felt happy.
Lin Yuan, you’re the one who walked into this!
Back at her desk, Lin Yuan was also feeling annoyed. Meng Tian was like a lingering ghost, appearing everywhere she went!
Actually, Lin Yuan knew where Meng Tian’s hostility towards her came from.
In college, Lin Yuan was a top student, beautiful, and had a good personality.
She was the universally recognized goddess and academic star among all the boys.
She was also the object of countless boys’ admiration and secret love, including Meng Tian’s crush.
Meng Tian couldn’t get him, and her crush was infatuated with Lin Yuan, so she transferred all her feelings for her crush into resentment towards Lin Yuan.
Lin Yuan felt utterly baffled!
At lunchtime, a colleague invited her to the cafeteria. Lin Yuan thought that she shouldn’t be too out of place on her first day, so she went with them.
She was beautiful, and people naturally liked her. Even the cafeteria lady who served the food gave her extra meat.
“Yuan, you’re so beautiful, you must have a lot of guys chasing after you, right?”
Lin Yuan smiled, “I’m married.”
“Ah? You’re married so young? I didn’t see you wearing a ring or anything. I thought you were single.”
The colleague’s words reminded Lin Yuan that she and Sheng Xiao had gotten married in such a hurry that they hadn’t even bought wedding rings. After lunch, she returned to her desk. Everyone was taking a nap. She took out her phone and sent a message to Sheng Xiao.
【Sheng Xiao, let’s go pick out rings after work.】
In the coffee shop of the most luxurious hotel in Yancheng, Sheng Xiao’s lazy figure leaned back on the sofa, his jet-black eyes cold and low-key.
His skin was very fair, not at all like someone who worked on construction sites all year round. His whole demeanor was like a cold and aloof deity, indifferent and self-controlled. Just sitting there, silent, was enough to make people mesmerized.
An Jinghao and Zhan Yu sat opposite him, “Third Brother, Qin Zhuo’s flight is tomorrow, are you going back to Beijing?”
Sheng Xiao tapped a cigarette out of the ashtray on the table. Zhan Yu quickly picked up the lighter and lit it for him, “Yes, Third Brother, you haven’t been back to Beijing for so long. Now that Old Qin is back, let’s get together.”
The two looked at Sheng Xiao expectantly, waiting for his response.
Then they saw Sheng Xiao take out that cheap domestic phone from his pocket, press a few buttons, and actually reply to a message?
This was truly a sight to behold.
Sheng Xiao always made phone calls sparingly, when would he ever reply to messages?
After replying, he threw the phone on the sofa, “I’ll go back in a few days.”
Then he thought of something and got up to leave.
Zhan Yu looked at Sheng Xiao’s back and sighed, “This Third Brother is getting more and more elusive.”
In the past, Sheng San Ye of Beijing was already very low-key. Few people had seen him. Now, after that incident, he’s become even more cautious.
He thought for a moment and then patted An Jinghao, “Haozi, you think Third Brother is getting used to staying in a small place like Yancheng and can’t adapt to the fast pace of Beijing?”
An Jinghao secretly knew something. He glanced at Zhan Yu, “Third Brother was born for Beijing. There’s never been such a thing as not being able to adapt. It’s just that there might be some inappropriate attachments here…”
He didn’t say what it was. He was reluctant to admit that tiny possibility in his heart.
That evening, Lin Yuan just got downstairs from work. She was about to call Sheng Xiao when she saw the man standing tall at the entrance of the apartment building, looking at her.
She ran towards Sheng Xiao with a smile and threw herself into his arms, “Why are you here?”
Sheng Xiao held her steady, “Waiting for you.”
There were people coming and going in the neighborhood, some were familiar with Sheng Xiao’s face. Usually, they might be intimidated by his icy demeanor and not dare to approach him, but now he seemed a lot gentler.
Some aunties dared to come forward and tease, “Oh, young man, is this your girlfriend? She’s so pretty.”
Sheng Xiao’s expression remained indifferent. Lin Yuan laughed awkwardly to avoid embarrassing the aunties, “Hello, auntie.”
