Chapter 36: Cleverness Backfired
When Meng Chengzhang stood in the top-floor office, he couldn’t believe that this kid, Dayong, was so defiant that he actually made a fuss in the CEO’s office!
Wang Rui threw the suburban contract on the table, the anger in his eyes almost consuming Meng Chengzhang.
Meng Chengzhang wasn’t new to embezzling company funds, and Wang Rui had turned a blind eye to it.
He knew Meng Chengzhang was greedy, but he also knew his value to the company. So, as long as the problem wasn’t too serious, Wang Rui basically let him be. But this time, he was unlucky and ran into a tough nut to crack…
“Mr. Wang, this is a misunderstanding. Please let me explain.”
Wang Rui’s eyebrows narrowed, “Explain? Director Meng, the facts are right in front of you. What is there to explain?”
Half an hour later, when Meng Chengzhang and Dayong came out of the CEO’s office, Meng Chengzhang was full of dejection, his eyes blazing with anger as he glared at Dayong, “You idiot!”
Dayong, though simple, was righteous, “I may not be smart, but I’m better than you, Director Meng. Cleverness backfired!”
He strode away, rushing to his workstation to call Lin Yuan.
The rain outside was getting heavier and heavier. He wondered how she was doing in the suburbs.
Meanwhile, Lin Yuan, who had been hiding in the warehouse, discovered that the rain was not only not stopping, but was becoming even more violent. The water on the ground was about to overflow the threshold of the warehouse.
If the rain didn’t stop and continued to rise like this, the consequences would be unimaginable…
“Brother Kun, the water is about to flood the warehouse. What should we do?”
The warehouse was temporary, and it contained goods that needed to be shipped in the near future. At this rate, the warehouse would definitely be flooded.
At that point, not only would Ary’s goods not be delivered, but other companies’ goods would also not be delivered.
Zhou Yaokun, with a cigarette dangling from his mouth, took a deep breath, “Damn it! Go, get Six and the rest of you to stack up the stone slabs on the ground and put the goods on top, one box at a time. Save as much as you can.”
Lin Yuan watched the man called Brother Kun. Although anxious, he didn’t panic or lose his composure. He remained calm and collected, directing the people below.
Even though his method might be a little wrong…
“Brother Kun, is it?” Lin Yuan walked up to Zhou Yaokun and asked in a not-so-loud voice.
Zhou Yaokun turned his head to look at her, “What’s up?”
Lin Yuan thought for a moment and then spoke, “What you’re doing won’t solve the root problem. The boxes are all piled together, which seriously affects air circulation and will soon become damp.”
“Moreover, you’re stacking the goods so high, the outer boxes will become soft and damp, and their load-bearing capacity will be greatly reduced. The corners of the outer boxes will easily break.”
Zhou Yaokun originally thought she was just a pretty face, but she actually spoke with reason and logic. He took the cigarette out of his mouth and couldn’t help but take a closer look at her.
“Do you have a better way?”
Lin Yuan: “First, find someone to shut off the power, then use sandbags to block the rainwater at the entrance of the warehouse to prevent backflow.”
She pointed to the road embankment where she had been standing, “There’s a drainage outlet there. Block the water with sandbags.”
Zhou Yaokun’s mind couldn’t grasp that much. He took another deep look at Lin Yuan and called a few people over, “Do as she says.”
Everyone put on their raincoats and started working outside, with Lin Yuan standing at the entrance holding an umbrella and directing them, telling them roughly where to put the sandbags.
These workers, including Zhou Yaokun, were all brawn, not brains. When it came to thinking, they were still stuck.
As everyone was working hard, a black business car arrived late, braking near them. The door on the back seat was opened, and a tall, cold-looking man stepped out of the car.
He held an umbrella and looked towards the warehouse. With just one glance, he saw the woman standing in the rain, directing everyone.
Her hair was half-soaked, and her pants were splattered with dirty water, but she didn’t notice as she raised her arm to give instructions, her movements methodical.
The slender figure and her firm voice, almost shouting, formed a stark contrast, making it impossible for anyone who saw her to look away.
Sheng Xiao strode towards her, draped the coat from his arm over her, startling Lin Yuan. She hurriedly turned her head and met Sheng Xiao’s gaze, filled with anger and concern. She was overjoyed, “Sheng Xiao, how did you get here?”
Sheng Xiao handed the umbrella to the aunt beside him and took the umbrella from Lin Yuan’s hand. They shared the umbrella, he pulled her into his embrace, using his body heat to warm her. “The weather forecast said there would be heavy rain in the suburbs. I was worried about you.”
He didn’t know how anxious he was when he heard that Lin Yuan was alone in the suburbs negotiating with these workers. “You can’t do something so dangerous again.”
Lin Yuan rubbed her head against his chest, “Sheng Xiao, your embrace is so warm. Hold me tight.”
Sheng Xiao was full of anger on the way here. He had already decided that when he saw her, he would scold her severely, so she would know better than to do something so dangerous.
No matter how she explained, he wouldn’t give her a good face!
But…
Now, she was trembling slightly, huddled in his arms, her voice soft as she acted cute, her eyes blinking as she looked at him. Sheng Xiao suddenly felt all his anger disappear.
He didn’t have the heart to be angry anymore. He just wanted to hold her tight and warm her up.
“Go inside and stay warm. I’ll teach them how to do it.”
Lin Yuan looked at Sheng Xiao with confusion. Sheng Xiao raised an eyebrow slightly, “What, you don’t trust your man?”
She stood inside the warehouse, watching Sheng Xiao calmly arrange things, like a general on the battlefield, decisive and commanding, his posture upright.
At this moment, Lin Yuan, who was caught in the throes of love, seemed to have automatically ignored many things.
For example: why was there a luxury car that brought Sheng Xiao to the suburbs.
Why could Sheng Xiao, who was at work, come and go freely without restriction.
Why did Sheng Xiao, who used to be a laborer, know so much about these things.
…
Of course, she slowly came to her senses.
Sheng Xiao held her hand in his. Lin Yuan looked at the airtight blocking outside and turned to ask him, “Sheng Xiao, I think I saw a car bringing you here. Who was that?”
Sheng Xiao paused. He was too worried about her safety and directly asked the driver to drive the company car over.
Now, he had to make up a lie.
“Oh, that was my colleague. His family lives in the suburbs. I said I was coming here, and he kindly gave me a ride.”
Lin Yuan thought about it and suddenly smiled. Sheng Xiao pinched her cheek, “What are you laughing at?”
“I didn’t expect someone like you, Sheng Xiao, to have such good colleagues at work.”
The way she said it was like she was coaxing a child.
Sheng Xiao rubbed her hair, “What kind of personality do I have?”
