Chapter 25 : Do You Regret It?
‘Is Wen Jun sick in the head or something?’
Liu Lingyan clenched her chopsticks tightly, she seriously wanted to shove them into Wen Jun’s mouth and stab his tongue to pieces.
Suddenly, she felt a few taps on her knee. She turned and saw Song Ying looking at her calmly, then responding with a straight face, “Oh? What is it? Let me think if I have one.”
Liu Lingyan instantly felt relieved, seeing Song Ying handle it so composedly. On the other side of the table, Wen Jun’s smug expression finally cracked just a little, and Liu Lingyan found it hilarious.
You little brat, trying to mess with my sister?
But Wen Jun wasn’t someone who could be flustered so easily. He quickly collected himself and said, “The Southern Jiao Pearl.”
Liu Lingyan was genuinely surprised. “You actually have a Southern Jiao Pearl?”
Song Ying asked, “Is it something valuable?”
Liu Lingyan covered her mouth with her hand and whispered to her, “It’s extremely rare. In the entire world, there are only seven, and two of them are kept in the imperial palace.”
Song Ying: “What does it do?”
Liu Lingyan was about to answer when Wen Jun cut in, “In the end, it’s just something for nobles to play with. You still haven’t answered me, do you have one?”
Song Ying answered plainly, “No.”
Wen Jun looked as though he had expected it. “That’s fine. Just let your new husband buy one for you later.”
Song Ying didn’t respond. “I’ve finished eating. Can I leave now?”
Wen Jun added, “I’ve finished too. Liu Lingyan, pay the bill.”
Liu Lingyan rolled her eyes at him, paid the money, and left with Song Ying.
As they were almost at the entrance, they saw Yue Shaozhi standing there.
Wen Jun passed by the two of them and asked, “Why haven’t you left yet?”
Song Ying instinctively turned her head and saw a man in a bamboo hat leaning against the wall. His wolfish eyes met hers briefly, then quickly looked away.
He actually followed us here.
Song Ying was about to pull Liu Lingyan into the carriage when Yue Shaozhi spoke up, “Where did you put the wound ointment?”
Song Ying turned around. “Your Highness is asking me?”
Yue Shaozhi touched his chin and said, “You were always the one keeping those things.”
The more unknown a powerful person is, the more others fear them. Yue Shaozhi had made many enemies.
The ointment had been specially developed by Song Ying for Yue Shaozhi, it worked wonders for healing wounds and removing scars.
After they divorced, Song Ying had only taken her own belongings. She didn’t take anything Yue Shaozhi had used.
After thinking for a moment, Song Ying replied, “There’s a three-tier cabinet in the left corner of your study. If it’s not in the top drawer, then you must’ve thrown it out.”
Yue Shaozhi: “Got it.”
After that, Song Ying and Liu Lingyan got into the carriage. A few moments later, Song Ying lifted the curtain and called to the man in the bamboo hat, “Why are you still standing there? Get in.”
Huo Zhen was stunned for a second, then pulled his hat down lower and got into the carriage.
—
Wen Jun smacked his lips and shook his head. “The less you know, the more ignorant you are. Did you ask Song Ying that question right in front of Huo Zhen on purpose? Are you jealous?”
Yue Shaozhi climbed into his own carriage first. “Yu Liang, sew his mouth shut.”
Wen Jun followed him in with a grin and sat opposite him. “Don’t be like that. If you really sew my mouth shut, who’s going to chat with you in the future? It’s just the two of us here. Tell me honestly, do you regret it?”
Yue Shaozhi pressed his lips together and gently rubbed the jade ring on his finger. It was a telltale sign he was about to lose his temper.
Just then, Yu Liang’s voice came from outside: “Young Marquis, the princess scratched her hand, and His Highness came to treat her injury.”
Wen Jun sighed dramatically, “Ah, so that’s what this is about. I misunderstood. I knew it, Shaozhi never does anything he regrets. Okay, I feel better now.”
When Yue Shaozhi didn’t respond, Wen Jun leaned forward again, teasing, “Shaozhi, you won’t be mad if I marry Song Ying, right?”
Yue Shaozhi’s expression relaxed slightly. “Do as you like.”
Wen Jun said, “Hahaha, just kidding. I don’t like her. I hate her. “
Yue Shaozhi picked up the book beside him and started reading.
Wen Jun: “Alright, I get it.”
—
Song Ying looked at Huo Zhen sitting across from her and said, “Stop pretending and take off your hat.”
“Oh.” Huo Zhen obediently removed his hat and explained, “I just came to take a look, I didn’t have any other intentions.”
Liu Lingyan said to Song Ying, “It’s obvious that General Huo was really worried you’d be bullied by Wen Jun, so he followed in disguise. Song Ying, don’t blame him.”
Song Ying replied, “I don’t blame him.”
Liu Lingyan: “Did you hear that, General Huo? Aying doesn’t blame you.”
General Huo nodded happily, “I heard.”
Song Ying: “Aren’t you supposed to be at the military camp today?”
Huo Zhen: “Once I saw you came out safely, I was ready to go back. It’s not a problem.”
Song Ying sighed, “You didn’t have to go through that.”
Huo Zhen looked at her, eyes full of concern. “Wen Jun is a very sinister man. I just don’t want anything bad to happen to you.”
He had been waiting outside the whole time, watching the clock. If Song Ying didn’t come out within an hour, he was prepared to barge in.
When he saw Yue Shaozhi arrive, he got even more anxious. Fortunately, not long after, Song Ying emerged, and only then did he feel reassured.
But something still made him very unhappy despite the divorce, Yue Shaozhi still had the nerve to ask Song Ying about the ointment.
There were so many servants in the palace, why couldn’t he just tell them to find it? Why ask his ex-wife specifically?
Damn it, is that man still obsessed with Song Ying?
“Here we are.”
The carriage had arrived at Xiaohanju, and Song Ying was about to get off.
Huo Zhen called out, “Aying, I have something to tell you.”
Song Ying: “Tell me when you get back.”
Rejected, Huo Zhen climbed out of the carriage with his head down.
Liu Lingyan asked, “Why didn’t you listen to him?”
Song Ying: “If he delays, he’ll just be punished. Even if he doesn’t care, what about his comrades? Once or twice is fine, but if it happens a lot, it’ll damage their morale.”
Liu Lingyan nodded. “You really do care about him.”
After entering Xiaohanju, Song Ying asked Liu Lingyan, “Is the Southern Jiao Pearl really just a plaything? Is it very expensive? What does it look like?”
Liu Lingyan: “It’s a kind of transparent bead, about the size of a thumb. It changes color with the light and is extremely beautiful. There’s even a rumor that it can bring the dead back to life and regenerate flesh from bone. It’s priceless. If I had just half of one, I’d never have to worry again in this lifetime.”
Song Ying was shocked. “It’s that magical? Doesn’t that mean someone could live a second life?”
Liu Lingyan: “Ah, that’s just legend. Who knows if it’s true or not. But it’s definitely rare. I’m going to check on the kids first, I’ll come find you later.”
“Go ahead.”
After returning to her room, Song Ying dragged a box out from under the bed.
The box was over a foot wide and looked quite ordinary. But on closer inspection, it was covered with a layer of fine leather that felt luxuriously soft.
There was a small lock on the box, but it was only for show. The real lock was a dark-patterned disc, which required a special technique to unlock.
Song Ying thought for a moment, pressed a few spots on the disc, and the box opened.
Inside were three layers of small wooden boxes, each carefully arranged and varying in size. Each box had its own unique carved pattern very delicate and refined.
Song Ying selected a square box from the second layer, about the size of a palm.
When she opened it, there were three thumb-sized transparent beads inside.
She picked one up, walked to the window, and held it up to the light.
The transparent bead shimmered into a swirl of fantastic colors as she turned it in her fingers, truly mesmerizing.
Song Ying murmured, “So this is the Southern Jiao Pearl. I thought it was just a marble. No wonder mother and uncle were so angry.”
