Chapter 29: As Long as She’s Happy
“Aunt Chunhua, Lu Jianshen, how about we go for a walk?”
“Okay.”
“Oh, you two young people go ahead. An old woman like me doesn’t need to join the fun.”
Chunhua waved her hand, signaling them to leave and do whatever they wanted without worrying about her.
Jiang Xiangxiang considered this. Their target was Lu Jianshen and herself. If they went out, even if Ye Meiping and Jiang Rourou tried to do something, they wouldn’t need to worry.
So, she got up and walked out.
Jiang Rourou, furious at her action, instinctively blocked the doorway: “You can’t leave.”
Jiang Xiangxiang rolled her eyes: “Just because you say so? Who do you think you are?”
Jiang Rourou: “We’re supposed to eat here. Mom already cooked, and if you leave now, it’ll all be wasted.”
Jiang Xiangxiang: “I’m just taking him for a walk, I’m not not coming back. What are you panicking about?”
Jiang Rourou: “…”
Of course, she was panicking. If Lu Jianshen left, all her efforts would be in vain. Opportunities to be alone with him were rare.
Jiang Rourou worried that Lu Jianshen had already begun to suspect her, which would make him wary of her – not a good thing.
Seeing Jiang Rourou’s calculating expression, Lu Jianshen simply stood beside Jiang Xiangxiang, taking her sleeve: “Let’s go for a walk. This meal isn’t essential. If necessary, we can invite Aunt Chunhua to a restaurant.”
He wasn’t short of money; he didn’t have to eat there.
Ye Meiping clearly looked down on him as a son-in-law. Why should they stay and be disliked?
Jiang Xiangxiang glanced at his hand on her sleeve, slightly surprised. It was too conservative. They were practically engaged, soon to be husband and wife, sharing a bed. Was this appropriate?
After much thought, she directly took his hand.
Lu Jianshen froze, staring at her blankly, then a smile unconsciously appeared on his lips. Jiang Rourou, watching from across the room, felt her heart flutter.
Seeing this, Jiang Xiangxiang pulled him out. If not for Lu Jianshen’s presence, she would have already taken action. She had to maintain her composure, constantly reminding herself to maintain her composure.
Jiang Rourou tried to stop them, but Jiang Xiangxiang’s gaze subdued her, forcing her to retract her words. Her sister had become a bit crazy recently, and was difficult to deal with.
If she tried to stop her again, she would definitely get beaten.
While Jiang Rourou hesitated, she watched them leave. Aunt Chunhua sat opposite the octagonal table, watching the drama unfold. In her many years as a matchmaker, she had never seen such an unreasonable person. Jiang Rourou was truly crazy. Lu Jianshen clearly wasn’t interested in her, yet she relentlessly pursued him, her intentions couldn’t be clearer.
Jiang Rourou met her gaze, her face changing. She didn’t bother with pleasantries: “Aunt Chunhua, I advise you to go home and mind your own business.”
Chunhua chuckled: “Oh my, I’m doing a good deed, how can that be minding my own business? Jiang Rourou, you should know I’m the most famous matchmaker for miles around. If you ever like someone, tell me, I can help you find a match.”
Jiang Rourou snorted: “I don’t need it!”
She wasn’t completely foolish. Chunhua clearly sided with Lu Jianshen. Even if she were crazy, she wouldn’t think Chunhua would consider things from her perspective.
To help her find a match? In the whole area, Jiang Rourou only had eyes for Lu Jianshen. No other man caught her interest. Even if Chunhua tried, Lu Jianshen might not agree. She still had to figure out her own way. A fait accompli was the only way. Everything else was secondary.
Chunhua shrugged. If she didn’t need it, then so be it. She couldn’t keep throwing herself at someone who wasn’t interested. Jiang Rourou was clearly scheming, and whoever she married would be unlucky.
After pulling Lu Jianshen outside, Jiang Xiangxiang’s anger subsided slightly: “Lu Jianshen, you saw that. They’re up to no good. If it doesn’t work out, let’s just call it off. You can still back out if you regret it.”
Lu Jianshen looked at their intertwined hands, feeling his heart beat faster. After calming down, he said: “I’m interested in you, not anything else. I guessed they had ulterior motives.”
Jiang Rourou’s calculating gaze was too obvious, dark and scheming, making him uncomfortable. He’d seen such looks many times.
Jiang Xiangxiang: “Give me some time, I’ll handle it.”
Lu Jianshen: “You plan to…”
Jiang Xiangxiang: “How about using their own tactics against them?”
Only in this way could she smoothly escape this bizarre family. But there was a condition: Lu Jianshen needed to cooperate, otherwise, it would be difficult to get rid of them.
Lu Jianshen looked at her worriedly. This wasn’t impossible, but there was a condition: “Will you be in danger? Or, anything that could harm you is unacceptable.”
Jiang Xiangxiang: “Don’t worry, it won’t happen. I know what I’m doing. I won’t let them affect you.”
Lu Jianshen: “One more thing, I won’t have anything to do with her.”
Jiang Xiangxiang: “Of course, I wouldn’t let her get near you. You’re mine, only mine.”
At least, for now.
Jiang Xiangxiang was fiercely protective. Since she had chosen him, no one else could touch him, let alone scheme against him.
Otherwise, she would retaliate.
Lu Jianshen nodded: “Okay, I’ll cooperate.”
Jiang Xiangxiang: “You’re not asking what I plan to do?”
Lu Jianshen: “Whatever you plan, there must be a reason.”
Since they were going to be a family, he would trust her. Besides, no matter what Jiang Xiangxiang did, they were the ones who started it. If she didn’t fight back, he would really worry.
Lu Jianshen initially thought she was soft, easily bullied. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have been bullied for so many years. Now, it seemed Jiang Xiangxiang wasn’t the type to be easily bullied.
That was the best. His work was busy, and he couldn’t always be by her side, even if he joined the army. If Jiang Xiangxiang could protect herself, that was the best. His wife could do whatever she wanted without worrying too much. As long as she was happy.
