Chapter 35: The Whole Village Knows
Aunt Chunhua glanced at Jiang Xiangxiang and then at Lu Jianshen. Immediately, she declared she needed to go home, claiming it was their family matter and she shouldn’t interfere.
Jiang Xiangxiang guessed her intentions but didn’t mind. On the contrary, if Chunhua spread the word, it would benefit her.
Her plan was to make this a big deal, to completely break free from her bizarre family. Jiang Xiangxiang didn’t want to be bothered by them after her marriage.
Lu Jianshen prioritized her wishes. Seeing Jiang Xiangxiang nod, he had no objections. Soon, Chunhua rushed out.
Inside, Ye Meiping and Jiang Rourou, hearing the commotion, panicked. With Chunhua gone, what would happen to them?
Ignoring their discomfort, they started banging on the door.
Jiang Xiangxiang turned, annoyed. These two were relentless; she was about to lose her patience.
Lu Jianshen: “Lock the door. Let’s go for a walk?”
Jiang Xiangxiang: “Great! Let’s go!”
She pulled him out without hesitation, treating him like her own.
Lu Jianshen was startled, then smiled. Jiang Xiangxiang seemed to trust him more than those two inside.
Although they hadn’t known each other long…
He felt happy.
Jiang Xiangxiang didn’t overthink it. Since they were going to be together, basic trust was essential. She didn’t want to be a suspicious, crazy woman.
After pulling him out, she felt a little embarrassed. Her actions were too forward, not fitting the times.
Jiang Xiangxiang cleared her throat: “Where should we go?”
Lu Jianshen: “Let’s just wander. How do you plan to handle things inside?”
Jiang Xiangxiang: “I’ve told my father; he’ll be back soon. It should be interesting.”
Lu Jianshen: “Is your father good to you?”
Jiang Xiangxiang: “He’s alright. The most important thing is that he’s the most reasonable in my family; he shouldn’t ignore this.”
Though she said that, Jiang Xiangxiang planned to sever ties with the Jiang family for their disgusting actions. Otherwise, she’d be hurting herself.
Lu Jianshen nodded. He’d heard that only Jiang Xiangxiang’s father was normal, honest, and hardworking. He mostly worked at the mine and rarely came home, unaware of family matters.
If he knew, he’d support Jiang Xiangxiang.
Lu Jianshen felt relieved: “What if your father tries to cover it up, prioritizing family harmony?”
Jiang Xiangxiang: “I’m not afraid. I have you. After marrying you, I’ll have nothing to do with the Jiang family.”
They had no relationship to begin with. If not for the original owner, Jiang Xiangxiang would have left long ago. But this era limited her actions.
That’s why she married Lu Jianshen so quickly.
Marriage was a gamble, potentially successful or disastrous. If Lu Jianshen was a good person, it would be fine.
If not, it would be troublesome.
Jiang Xiangxiang didn’t trust men easily. Her words were just words; only she knew his true intentions.
Lu Jianshen: “Don’t worry, Xiangxiang. Not just me, my family will be good to you too. You’ve met my mother; she’s straightforward and kind. You’ll get along well with her.”
Jiang Xiangxiang: “I’m not worried. We agreed I’ll go with you to the army.”
Lu Jianshen: “That’s right.”
He wanted to take her with him. As husband and wife, there was no reason to leave her in the countryside.
Many couples in his unit broke up due to separation.
Lu Jianshen didn’t want that to happen to them. Even before marriage, the thought of another man with Jiang Xiangxiang was unbearable.
Jiang Xiangxiang relaxed, relieved he wasn’t deceiving her; otherwise, she would reconsider.
It wasn’t that the countryside was bad, but this era offered no hope.
They walked out of the alley towards a nearby hill, overlooking the village.
They strolled, relaxed, like ordinary people.
Unnoticed, a figure rushed towards the Jiang family.
After leaving, Chunhua went straight to the busiest street corner and started spreading the news. She described everything vividly, including details, sparing nothing.
Jiang Rourou became a woman lusting after her brother-in-law, and Ye Meiping an accomplice who mistreated her daughter.
Chunhua didn’t care about Ye Meiping’s attitude; she was ready to fight.
Chunhua’s vivid account quickly reached everyone in the village. No one blamed Jiang Xiangxiang; everyone condemned Ye Meiping.
Yesterday’s events were fresh in their minds; they knew Ye Meiping’s true nature. They wanted her punished.
But no one had the authority.
Someone suggested going to the village head. Such matters required his intervention. Ye Meiping’s actions were shameful, and they couldn’t tolerate it. Most people were eager to see the drama unfold.
