Chapter 37: A Famous Scene, About to Explode
Jiang Xiangxiang, noticing his evasive gaze, belatedly understood. She quickly covered her mouth, preventing any sound from escaping. This was too embarrassing. He wouldn’t have misunderstood, would he?
Heaven and earth as witness, she really was a good girl.
Lu Jianshen: “Ahem, it’s dislocated. It might hurt a little. Bear with it, I’ll fix it.”
Jiang Xiangxiang: “You know how to reset bones?”
Lu Jianshen: “A little.”
Though he spoke casually, his hands moved swiftly and precisely. Two clicks, and it was back in place.
Before Jiang Xiangxiang could react, the pain was gone. However, her nose was slightly red from the pain, making her look pitiful, as if she’d been terribly bullied.
Lu Jianshen’s gaze lingered on her face for a moment before quickly averting his eyes, struggling to control his wandering thoughts. They had just gotten engaged, not yet married.
He could wait until after the wedding.
Unaware of his thoughts, Jiang Xiangxiang wiped her eyes and said pitifully, “Let’s go back quickly. I want to see the fun.”
Ye Meiping and Jiang Rourou were masters of self-destruction, clearly lacking in intelligence yet determined to create chaos. Jiang Xiangxiang felt a little guilty if she didn’t teach them a lesson.
Lu Jianshen twitched the corner of his mouth. Her excited expression showed how much she wanted to join the fray. He, too, was curious about Ye Meiping and her daughter’s fate.
Technically, they were his future mother-in-law and sister-in-law, but clearly, they didn’t consider him family and were plotting against him.
So, watching the chaos unfold wouldn’t be too much.
Lu Jianshen knew that even if he didn’t interfere, Ye Meiping and the others wouldn’t show mercy, instead blaming everything on Jiang Xiangxiang and making things difficult for her.
It was better to deal with them decisively and make them behave.
That way, he could rest easier.
Just as Jiang Xiangxiang was about to jump down, Lu Jianshen scooped her up in a princess carry, heading towards the Jiang family courtyard with surprising speed.
They attracted a lot of attention. Jiang Xiangxiang felt unusually embarrassed. After today, their marriage would be set in stone. If she didn’t marry Lu Jianshen, she’d be drowned in gossip.
Thankfully, she had no intention of breaking off the engagement. Otherwise, things would be awkward.
Many people had gathered in the Jiang family courtyard. Lu Jianshen, carrying Jiang Xiangxiang, instantly drew everyone’s attention.
Jiang Xiangxiang’s face flushed slightly. “Put me down,” she whispered.
Lu Jianshen: “Can you? It’s crowded. If someone accidentally bumps into you, it’ll be troublesome.”
Jiang Xiangxiang: “…”
She might as well stay put. He was tall, so it wouldn’t obstruct her view of the drama. Speaking of height, she felt a pang of sadness. The original owner and she were about the same height, around 165 cm, not exactly tall.
Lu Jianshen remained impassive, though slightly shy. They were going to be husband and wife, and the village knew it. He didn’t mind the stares.
Though this was a rural village, most people were good. People like Ye Meiping were the exception.
Wang Fugui, seeing them arrive, quickly asked, “Jiang Erya, what’s going on? Just because of a proposal…?”
He’d heard the story, but it sounded unbelievable. He couldn’t help but doubt it.
Even if Ye Meiping was foolish, she couldn’t have done something so absurd – using her eldest daughter to plot against her youngest. Had she been kicked in the head by a donkey?
Even if she had, she should have gone crazy herself, not dragged others into it. That’s just asking for trouble.
Besides, Lu Jianshen, the most successful young man in the village, didn’t get his olive-green uniform for nothing. Years in the army meant he had skills and intelligence.
He was a battalion commander. Even ten Ye Meipings couldn’t plot against him.
Jiang Xiangxiang had no intention of covering for Ye Meiping. They had plotted against her, wishing for her death. Now that she had a chance to complain, she wouldn’t let it go.
With a perfectly timed expression of grievance, tears welled up in her eyes, making her appear utterly wronged.
Wang Fugui instantly felt he’d been too harsh. The girl was already suffering, and his question was adding to her distress.
Maybe…
Jiang Xiangxiang whispered, “I don’t know what my mother and sister were trying to do. Since last night, they’ve been acting crazy, unreasonable. This morning, they caused more trouble. Maybe they just didn’t want me to marry Lu…no, whoever I marry, they wouldn’t be happy.”
Her words were pitiful, evoking sympathy.
Everyone knew how difficult her life had been. This expression meant only one thing: she’d been terribly bullied.
Wang Fugui waved his hand. “Alright, I understand. Let’s go inside. After we bring them out, I’ll give you justice. If Ye Meiping really did something, we’ll call the police.”
He’d let her off last time, but she hadn’t learned her lesson and remained defiant.
So, he wouldn’t be polite this time.
Jiang Xiangxiang nodded. The village chief seemed moderate and mild-tempered, not easily offended.
Interesting.
Such a person, seemingly gentle, wouldn’t easily offend others, but when angered, he could be quite frightening.
After asking, Wang Fugui led the people to the main hall, heading towards the room where Ye Meiping and her daughter were. Before they even entered, they heard rustling and amorous sounds.
What in the world? Wang Fugui thought. Even though he thought he was prepared, he was shocked.
What nonsense! Ye Meiping and Jiang Rourou couldn’t be sleeping together! They were mother and daughter! People have heard of men and women, but never women and women.
If this got out, the village would explode.
He stepped forward and broke down the door.
