Chapter 51: Dad Will Buy You Another One
“Mom, this isn’t the time for this. Look, we absolutely must leave before they get married; otherwise, we’ll be letting Jiang Xiangxiang off too easily.”
“You’re right!”
Upon hearing Jiang Rourou’s words, Ye Meiping’s spirits lifted momentarily, but soon drooped again, unsure of what to do. This was a police station; even if they, mother and daughter, possessed extraordinary abilities, they couldn’t escape.
What to do?
Seeing her expression, a hint of disdain flickered in Jiang Rourou’s eyes, yet she continued to persuade her.
“Mom, think about it. Father listens to you the most. He always does what you say. As long as you find him and use your wit to shift all the blame onto Old Liu, he’ll definitely forgive you.”
“But…”
Ye Meiping, firstly, didn’t want to ask for help, and secondly, felt that Jiang Chengshan didn’t deserve her. If she hadn’t been desperate back then, she would never have married him.
Over the years, Jiang Chengshan had been indifferent towards her. She had tolerated living with him; that was already giving him too much credit.
“Mom, think about it. No matter how bad it is, it’s better than being imprisoned here.”
“Jiang Chengshan doesn’t seem like the type to come see me.”
Ye Meiping said weakly. Although not very clever, she could read people’s expressions. Jiang Chengshan clearly didn’t care about her.
This was also the reason for her anger. Just thinking about Jiang Chengshan’s indifferent attitude made Ye Meiping feel betrayed and hurt.
Jiang Rourou had already planned everything. With a determined expression, she said, “He will. The police will surely call him in for a statement. We still have a chance. As long as we see Father, you explain properly, and there will still be a way out.”
Her life hadn’t even begun; she couldn’t let it rot here.
Ye Meiping hesitantly nodded. It seemed there was no better way. She didn’t want to stay in this place either. Eating, drinking, and using the toilet in this small room was unbearable.
Jiang Rourou breathed a sigh of relief. As long as Ye Meiping didn’t act foolishly and spoke to Jiang Chengshan properly, they still had a chance to get out.
Jiang Xiangxiang listened to their scheming with a mocking expression. Two small stun guns appeared in her hands. Even in this situation, they were still plotting.
Heh, they were truly shameless.
Thinking this, she circled around them, suddenly appearing and striking them, one on each side, ensuring neither escaped without a beating. The goal was to leave them speechless and defenseless.
Ye Meiping and Jiang Rourou were shocked to see Jiang Xiangxiang appear. How could she be here?
Before they could call for help, they were already on the ground, convulsing and trembling, looking utterly pathetic.
Jiang Xiangxiang didn’t give them a chance to question her. The previous slaps hadn’t relieved her anger, and now, hearing their conspiracy, how could she not be furious!
After knocking them down, she proceeded to give them a thorough beating.
Kicks and punches.
Jiang Xiangxiang refused to believe that after beating them until they couldn’t speak, this mother-daughter pair could still plot. They were like rats in a gutter, utterly despicable.
While beating them, Jiang Xiangxiang tried to keep her movements light, fearing she would attract the police.
If she put on a show of transformation in front of them, that wouldn’t be good.
Ye Meiping and Jiang Rourou had no chance to resist. They couldn’t even call out, only passively enduring the beating.
Jiang Xiangxiang didn’t waste words, targeting areas with more clothing, aiming for bruises that wouldn’t be visible on their faces.
After all, it was winter, and they were in the police station. They couldn’t strip and show their bodies to others.
Besides, even if Ye Meiping and Jiang Rourou were shameless enough to show their bodies, the police wouldn’t necessarily believe them.
In this era, surveillance wasn’t as advanced as it would be later, so there was nothing to fear.
Soon, the mother and daughter were subdued by Jiang Xiangxiang, completely compliant, typically breathing more out than in.
Jiang Xiangxiang gave them a final kick, knocking them unconscious, before silently returning to her space to prepare to leave.
The police station was some distance from their village. To avoid any complications or being seen, she used her old method and secretly returned.
From start to finish, Jiang Xiangxiang’s time in the village didn’t exceed half an hour, perfectly controlled.
Returning, Jiang Xiangxiang checked her watch. It was almost 8 pm. She estimated Jiang Chengshan hadn’t finished washing yet, so she needed to wander around a bit before going home.
Before she could take a few steps, she heard a shout from afar.
Jiang Chengshan, looking worried, called out, “Xiangxiang, where are you? Come home, Xiangxiang!”
Jiang Xiangxiang’s cheeks flushed slightly. For the first time in many years, she experienced this – being called home by an elder, just like when she was a child.
Jiang Chengshan was anxious. After a quick wash, he rushed out to find her. The water his daughter had boiled was different; after washing, he felt much better.
It was a feeling of lightness and pleasantness.
Hearing him approaching, Jiang Xiangxiang quickly emerged from the shadows: “Dad, I was just taking a walk; I would have gone home myself. Why did you come?”
Jiang Chengshan: “You’re here! I was worried about you. It’s not safe for a girl to be out late at night. Come, let’s go home.”
He switched on his flashlight.
Jiang Xiangxiang was slightly stunned by his action. Flashlights were rare in this era, especially the old battery-powered kind.
Jiang Chengshan hadn’t used it when he came earlier…
Seeing her looking at him, he smiled sheepishly: “This is from the mine. We use it in the mine shafts to see in the dark, and it’s good for lighting at night. I brought it back to give to you.”
The village conditions weren’t good; they still used kerosene lamps, which weren’t ideal.
Jiang Chengshan thought that in all these years, he hadn’t given Jiang Xiangxiang any decent gifts. She must have missed him to come looking for him.
He brought something practical back, just right.
When Jiang Xiangxiang left earlier, Jiang Chengshan wanted to stop her and have her take this with her.
As he spoke, he handed the flashlight to her: “Here’s the switch. On, off. One battery lasts a long time. If it runs out, tell Dad, and Dad will buy you another one, heh.”
Jiang Xiangxiang: “…”
