Chapter 54: The Urge to Become a Parent Begins
When Shen Qiuyue and the others saw Jiang Xiangxiang come out, their eyes lit up instantly. It’s hard to describe, but she seemed like she didn’t belong here.
They had practically watched Jiang Xiangxiang grow up, yet at this moment, she seemed different.
She had been completely transformed. Compared to before, she possessed an extra… what was it called… a refined and elegant air.
A trace of confusion and bewilderment flickered across Shen Qiuyue’s brows, but she quickly dismissed it, blaming everything on Ye Meiping. That damned woman, what had she done?
She had raised such a good girl into… what?
Shen Qiuyue’s biggest regret in life was not having a daughter. She had two sons, and it was incredibly frustrating.
It wasn’t that there was anything wrong with sons, but her sons were all scoundrels. When they got married, wouldn’t they drag her down as their mother-in-law?
The mere thought of becoming a mother-in-law terrified Shen Qiuyue. It was impossible to get it right; no matter what she did, it was always wrong.
If the daughter-in-law was as sensible as Jiang Xiangxiang, it would be fine. But if she wasn’t sensible, Shen Qiuyue would have to act like an ancestor and cater to her every whim.
Jiang Xiangxiang was unaware of her aunt’s thoughts. Seeing her staring intently, she was a little surprised.
“What’s wrong, Aunt? Is my outfit inappropriate?”
“What’s inappropriate about it? Our Jiang family daughters are all beautiful,” Shen Qiuyue said, immediately linking arms with her and pulling her forward.
She spoke and laughed as they walked.
As for the luggage, the large and small bags they had brought to the Lu family were left to Jiang Chengzhong and Jiang Chengshan.
Jiang Chengzhong and Jiang Chengshan walked behind them. From their backs, it was clear they were close. Jiang Chengshan felt his eyes welling up.
He always felt that his family atmosphere should have been like this.
Jiang Chengzhong glanced at him sideways: “Alright, stop making a fuss. Mistakes happen. It’s not a big deal. Just let it go.”
When Jiang Chengshan wanted to marry Ye Meiping, he had strongly opposed it.
But Jiang Chengshan was like he was possessed, insisting on marrying her. Now, he had shot himself in the foot.
Jiang Chengshan felt a little embarrassed. He mumbled softly, “I didn’t expect her to be like that. If I had known, I definitely wouldn’t have…”
Jiang Chengzhong: “I told you you’re stupid, and you still deny it.”
Nonsense.
He only knew how to work, blindly working day after day, without any sense. Thankfully, Jiang Xiangxiang was alright. If anything had happened to her, he would have cried.
Jiang Chengshan was so rebuked that he couldn’t speak, and didn’t know how to respond, so he could only awkwardly change the subject: “Brother, is everything prepared? Are we missing anything?”
Jiang Chengzhong: “Money. Do you have any?”
He knew Ye Meiping had emptied his brother’s savings.
Jiang Chengshan completely shut up. Who didn’t need money? He needed it badly. Thinking of his mistake, he felt even more upset.
That damned Ye Meiping.
Jiang Chengzhong: “Alright, learn from your mistakes. Think before you act. Find some time to go to the police station and divorce her.”
Jiang Chengshan: “Brother!”
Jiang Chengzhong: “What? You’re not willing? You think that woman is good to you? Jiang Chengshan, have you worn the green hat for so long that your brain is also green? You’re so stupid, you must divorce her!”
Jiang Xiangxiang: …
Whoa, whoa, this is some juicy gossip!
She was still wondering how to persuade Jiang Chengshan, as he didn’t seem like the kind of person who would be cruel. Whether he would agree was uncertain.
Unexpectedly, Jiang Chengzhong spoke for her. This feeling was really good.
Jiang Xiangxiang’s favorable impression of her uncle and aunt increased infinitely. It seemed not everyone in the family was eccentric or strange; there were still some normal people.
Jiang Xiangxiang turned around and gave Jiang Chengzhong a sweet smile.
Jiang Chengzhong’s voice softened considerably: “Oh, Xiangxiang, watch your step, don’t fall. After your father divorces, we’ll find you a new mother-in-law, okay?”
Jiang Xiangxiang smiled: “Okay, Uncle.”
There was nothing wrong with that. Someone would take care of Jiang Chengshan, and she wouldn’t have to worry too much even if she went to the military.
Jiang Chengzhong felt much better instantly: “Look, even a little girl is more sensible than you. It’s settled then.”
Jiang Chengshan shook his head: “Divorce is fine, I don’t want to get married. I’ll just live with Xiangxiang. After she gets married, I’ll help her with the kids.”
He had made one mistake, and he couldn’t make another.
Jiang Chengshan couldn’t imagine what he would feel if Jiang Xiangxiang was hurt again because of him.
He would probably collapse, so he couldn’t gamble.
Jiang Xiangxiang’s expression twisted for a second at his words. Wow, they had just recognized each other, hadn’t even gotten engaged, let alone married, and they were already talking about having grandchildren.
Suddenly, marriage didn’t seem like such a good thing. Maybe she should reconsider?
But thinking of Lu Jianshen, she hesitated. It all came down to looks.
Lu Jianshen’s appearance perfectly matched her aesthetic. He wasn’t exceptionally handsome, but she found him very pleasing to the eye.
So, he was perfect. Jiang Xiangxiang was really reluctant to give him up.
Jiang Chengzhong didn’t notice her thoughts and was about to persuade him further when Shen Qiuyue glanced at him.
Shen Qiuyue lightly snorted: “That’s enough. They haven’t divorced yet. Let’s talk about it after they divorce. It’s not too late.”
Her voice wasn’t loud, but it was very intimidating.
At least, Jiang Chengzhong glanced at her silently and quickly fell silent, not daring to say anything.
Jiang Xiangxiang was surprised. Her nominal uncle looked burly and fierce, not easy to talk to.
But he was different when facing Shen Qiuyue. She didn’t expect her aunt to be so capable.
Shen Qiuyue noticed her gaze and chuckled lightly: “Don’t worry, Xiangxiang. After you marry Lu Jianshen, be yourself. Say what you want to say, do what you want to do. Don’t let these men restrict you.”
Jiang Xiangxiang nodded: “Okay, I understand.”
Shen Qiuyue immediately felt relieved: “If you really understand, that’s good. But it’s fortunate that we live nearby. If anything happens, we’ll be there for you, we won’t let you suffer any injustice.”
Jiang Xiangxiang replied: “Thank you, Aunt.”
Although she didn’t think she would be bullied, Shen Qiuyue’s words showed that she genuinely cared for her.
After all, what Ye Meiping had done was inhuman.
