The car finally stopped, and Qianye was the last to slowly get out. Zhou Ran followed closely behind Zhao Nanzhuo, who was waiting outside for Qianye.
“Is she your older sister (Jiějiě)?” Zhou Ran couldn’t help but ask him.
“Do I look that young? She’s my younger sister (mèimei)!” Zhao Nanzhuo had always followed his parents’ instructions and referred to Qianye as his younger sister when talking to others.
The three of them set up their tents, and in the evening, the tour group arranged a barbecue. Someone suggested playing a game while eating, where the loser would perform. The first round involved taking turns singing a song with the word “sea” in it. At first, it was easy, but as the game went on, it got harder. Qianye wasn’t fond of these kinds of activities and quickly got stuck. Amidst the cheers of the group, she reluctantly stood up.
“I can’t perform, really,” Qianye said, still unaffected by the atmosphere around her, responding coldly.
The group murmured in disappointment, but at that moment, Zhou Ran stepped forward. Boldly, she said, “How about I perform a dance for her instead?” As she spoke, Zhou Ran’s gaze lingered on Zhao Nanzhuo.
“Sure,” the group responded enthusiastically, and Qianye let out a quiet sigh of relief before sitting back down. Zhou Ran performed a peacock dance. Although Qianye didn’t understand dance, she could tell that Zhou Ran’s movements were graceful, her posture elegant, and her expression captivating. When the dance ended, the crowd erupted in applause. Zhou Ran’s face flushed with the warmth of their praise, and she glanced at Zhao Nanzhuo before sitting back down.
There are always some people in this world who are naturally gifted and extraordinary. They can boldly pursue whatever they want, and Qianye couldn’t help but feel envious.
After the meal, the three of them chose to camp by the seaside. The wind swept across the sea, and Qianye sat in front of her tent, watching the waves tenderly roll towards the shore. After splashing, they would return to calmness, tirelessly and endlessly, like lovers forever chasing after each other. With each wave that rose and fell, there was a long sigh, waiting for the sun to rise the next day and leave all the beautiful morning views on the surface of the water.
Qianye sat alone by the tent for a long time, faintly noticing Zhou Ran approaching Zhao Nanzhuo’s tent to call him. Her thin skirt fluttered in the sea breeze, looking somewhat lonely.
“Nanzhuo, are you asleep? I didn’t expect it to be so cold by the sea, I didn’t bring enough clothes…” Zhou Ran’s voice trembled from the cold.
At that moment, Qianye suddenly thought that Zhou Ran was quite cute. A woman who could truly love someone from the heart couldn’t be all bad.
Zhao Nanzhuo politely came out of the tent. “I have an extra long-sleeve shirt, you can take it.” The moment he stepped out, he noticed Qianye still sitting outside her tent late at night. He quickly tossed the shirt to Zhou Ran, and Zhou Ran’s face flushed. When she realized he wasn’t asking her to stay longer, she hesitated for a moment before heading back to her own tent.
“Hey. What are you doing out here in the middle of the night?” Zhao Nanzhuo ran over to Qianye.
Qianye didn’t answer. Looking at her always cold expression, he felt a bit angry, but there was nothing he could do. She was like a stone statue. Staring out at the deep, mysterious sea, there wasn’t even a ripple in her eyes. Zhao Nanzhuo felt an unprecedented sense of defeat and walked back to his own tent. Before leaving, he reminded her to get some rest, since they had to wake up early the next day.
