Chapter 45: Rumors
She knew that if she disagreed, they would all start overthinking, so for their sake, Gu Cheng’an would have to deal with it himself. Seeing her agree, Grandpa He, along with the others, got up. “We’ll go for a walk and come back for dinner later.”
He Wanqing watched as the four men, including the ones who had just come home from work, were pulled out, and she shook her head with a smile, lowering her head to play with her nephew. She never doubted her family’s concern for her. She only regretted that she was too naive in her previous life, believing the Xu family’s words and eventually drifting away from them.
“Alright, you take care of the children. I’ll go talk to your grandma.” Grandma He glanced at her granddaughter, gave her a few instructions, and pulled He’s mother away.
Seeing that only she and her two toddlers were left in the house, He Wanqing turned her gaze to He Jiakang, who was about to leave.
“Sister, don’t look at me. I’m going to hang out with my classmates.” He finished speaking and had already run to the door.
At that moment, her two cousins who were attending high school in the county came back, almost bumping into He Jiakang at the door.
“Jiakang, where are you going?” Seeing her energetic younger brother, He Wan’yi pulled her cousin behind her to prevent her from being bumped, and asked with a bad temper.
“Second Sister, you’re back. I’m going to talk to someone in the village. I’ll be back soon.” He didn’t give her a chance to continue lecturing him. He glanced at He Wanlin and then ran past them.
“He…” He Wanlin interrupted her as she continued to call out, seeing the man disappear in a flash. “Alright, Second Sister. Jiakang might have something urgent. You can scold him later when he comes back. Should we go see Big Sister now?”
Thinking about the rumors they had heard as soon as they entered the village, the two sisters frowned in unison.
“Let’s go!” He Wan’yi said, and then quickly walked towards the living room. He Wanlin, carrying her schoolbag, followed closely behind her.
The two sisters first went to the kitchen to greet the few sisters-in-law who were cooking, as well as their own mothers, before finally entering the living room. As soon as they entered, the two sisters looked at their elder sister, who was playing with her nephew. Seeing that she wasn’t affected at all, they breathed a sigh of relief. They casually threw their schoolbags onto the kang, then sat down on the edge of the kang beside her, each taking one of the nephews she was holding.
“Sister, how are you feeling now? Are you feeling better?” He Wanlin asked.
“Big Sister, after dinner tonight, let’s go beat up that bitch He Cao again!” He Wan’yi, who was always quick to anger, said.
“That’s a good idea. Big Sister, let’s all go together tonight. You just watch. We’ll do the beating.” Thinking about He Cao’s sly look, He Wanlin felt that beating her up once wouldn’t be enough. They had to beat her up several times. It was a pity that they only had two days off and couldn’t stay home for long. Otherwise, they could beat her up three times a day.
He Wanqing, who wasn’t holding a child, smiled at her two cousins’ angry faces, her gaze a little distant, her thoughts flying far away. In her previous life, when she was bullied again and again, besides her few cousins, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law, it was these two, along with Shen Ping, who stood up for her. It was because of her that her sisters also married the wrong people, and it was because of her that their bodies broke down early, and they passed away before her.
Thinking about her previous life, He Wanqing slightly raised her face, forcing back her tears, not letting herself cry.
“Okay, let’s go beat her up together tonight.” In this life, she would never let anyone in her family get hurt again. She swore this to herself.
“That’s settled then.” He Wanlin, not looking at her face, put the nephew she was holding on the kang and went to the kitchen to help with dinner after the matter was settled.
He Wan’yi, who was left behind, leaned close to He Wanqing and nudged her shoulder with her hand after she left. “Big Sister, at the village entrance, Aunt Wu said that you have something going on with the educated youth. Is it true or not?”
She and He Wanlin didn’t believe the rumors. She believed her sister wasn’t the kind of person who would change her mind. She wouldn’t be involved with anyone else while she was still engaged.
“They’re all saying that?” She looked down at her, a flash of gold in her eyes.
“They said that the reason you broke off your engagement with Xu Weijun before the wedding was because of He Cao and because you were in love with the educated youth. Then, to make you feel less guilty, you framed He Cao. They’re like this now because you schemed against them. They also said that this educated youth is from the county, and you must have had your eye on him when you were studying in the county. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have come to our village to work in the countryside, and he wouldn’t have gone up the mountain to find you alone that day, and he wouldn’t have hugged you.”
He Wan’yi finished speaking, and before she could answer, Aunt He, who had heard He Wanlin say this in the kitchen, walked in, her face dark. “They’re full of crap! Who schemed against them? If they weren’t guilty, who would scheme against them? Don’t forget that He Cao’s baby is almost three months old. Is that something a person can scheme against?”
Aunt He, who was getting angrier as she spoke, finished her sentence, shouted twice at the kitchen, and then rushed out. She looked like she was going to fight someone.
Seeing this, He Wan’yi got up. She was about to apologize when He Wanqing patted her shoulder. “Wan’yi, you did the right thing. If you and Wanlin came back and hid this, our reputation would really be ruined by Xu Dahua and Zhu Sanni. Alright, stop looking. Let’s go see what’s going on. Maybe we can help beat them up later.”
She didn’t expect them to come up with such a flimsy rumor. Then she thought about what Gu Cheng’an had said in the afternoon, and her eyes flashed. It seems like they really were planning to do this! If so, they couldn’t just beat them up once tonight. They had to beat them up several times.
“Big Sister, it’s okay if you’re not angry. Let’s go!” She finished speaking, put shoes on her two nephews and put them on the ground, shouted to the sisters-in-law in the kitchen, and then pulled her away.
He Wanlin followed closely behind them. She was talking to her mother in the kitchen, but she hadn’t finished when she saw the two of them run out. She immediately followed them, asking the sisters-in-law to watch over her nephews, and then ran out quickly.
Aunt He, who had left earlier, was getting angrier and angrier. Knowing that Xu Dahua and Zhu Sanni were planning to ruin the reputation of all three girls in the family, her eyes were filled with hatred.
He’s mother, who was just leaving her mother-in-law and mother, was about to go home to help with dinner. Not far from the door, she saw her elder sister running towards her with a dark face, and her heart skipped a beat. She immediately went to ask her.
After asking, she learned about the rumors spread by Zhu Sanni and Xu Dahua, and Shen Yu Niang’s violent temper flared up again. She looked around, and when she saw the carrying pole at the neighbor’s door, she rushed over and grabbed it. “Big Sister, let’s go one by one. Xu Dahua’s house is closer. Let’s go there first. After we beat her up, we’ll go to the Xu family.” She finished speaking and rushed into He Daniu’s house with the carrying pole, randomly hitting the family who was eating, without even looking to see if she was hitting the right person. After all, they were all bad people.
