Chapter 49: Beating and robbing
He Wanlin, silently holding her nephew, opened her mouth to say something, but closed it again when she saw her disappear. He Wan’yi, who was beside her, looked back at the room, then turned to look at her house, and finally concluded that she was shy before continuing to play with her nephew.
He Wanqing, who was misunderstood by the two, was at her desk in her room, trying to recall her past life. As she recalled, she wrote it down with a pen and notebook, afraid of missing anything, in case there were changes in her family later. It wasn’t until He’s mother’s voice came from the door that she hurriedly tore up the paper filled with words and sent it into the space.
“Mom, I’m in my room. Come in.” She pretended to be writing a letter and responded to the door.
He’s mother, who pushed open the door, saw her writing and hesitated for a moment before going out. Instead, she walked over to her, sat on the edge of the kang, and told her what Grandpa He and the others had said. Seeing that she had no reaction, she added, “Daughter, if you don’t want to, Mom will take you to see your dad.” Although her anger from this year hadn’t subsided yet, she was willing to take a step back for her daughter. After all, her daughter’s matter was the most important right now. They could have their little marital fun next time.
He Wanqing put down her pen and looked at her mother, who was looking conflicted. She knew about the fun between her parents every year. She shook her head. “Mom, I’ll tell you after I go see him later. But about going to the army, are you really willing to go now? Don’t you want to wait until my dad apologizes before going?”
They, as siblings, had never understood the fun between their parents when they were young, and they were speechless when they grew up. Which couple was like them? They missed each other terribly when they were apart, and they could exchange five letters a month. After they met, they could last at most a month and a half, and then they would start to get sick of each other, finding fault with each other. Finally, they would have a big fight, one staying in the army and the other taking them three back home.
Thinking about the annual play, and this year, her father’s confession, apology letter, and guarantee letter hadn’t been sent back, she couldn’t help but raise her eyebrows at her mother. Actually, she still wanted her mother to go to the army. It wasn’t just that she wouldn’t have to work there. Her father’s army had changed locations, which was perfect for her to go. Besides, her brothers were there.
Her mother rolled her eyes, blushing as she got up. She walked away, saying, “Don’t worry about our adult matters, little girl. Just take care of yourself. Anyway, your dad and I have been like this for years, and it’s our unspoken agreement. You wouldn’t understand.”
But her messy steps told He Wanqing that her mother was really embarrassed.
“Mom, I’m an adult, okay!” She had just urged her to get married. Now she was saying that she was a child. Women are truly a mystery, so difficult to understand!
“Okay, I know. Don’t worry about your dad and me. Just remember that we won’t change partners.”
“Okay.” She responded with a smile, listening to the sound outside.
Then she lowered her head, looked at the pen and notebook in her hand, thought for a moment, and picked up her pen to write a letter to her two brothers. She wrote down everything that had happened at home recently, and then wrote a letter to her father, who was away. After putting the three pieces of paper in an envelope, she tidied up her desk and turned to leave. “Mom, I’m going out. I’ll be back later. You go to sleep.”
She looked up at the dark sky, turned and walked towards her backyard.
“Okay. Be careful.” Shen Yu Niang, who had just learned from He Jialin that the educated youth was following her daughter every night to protect her, didn’t have any worries after she finished speaking. Instead, she looked at the letter she had received yesterday. Seeing the three covers that appeared on it, a slight smile appeared on her lips, showing that she was in a good mood now.
If He Wanqing were there, she would know that her father had already sent the letter without her knowing, and he had sent it several months earlier than usual.
He Wanqing, who had climbed over the wall, didn’t see Gu Cheng’an in the corner, but she did see He Cao sneaking around. Thinking about the money she had been searching for fruitlessly for the past few days, she looked at the location Gu Cheng’an had mentioned, hesitated for a moment, and then followed He Cao’s footsteps.
Gu Cheng’an, who was following a step behind, saw her leave and silently exhaled a breath of relief. Phew, it’s good that he had a feeling and came early, otherwise, he would have been the one who broke the appointment.
He followed behind them with light steps. After walking for a few minutes, he watched as the two of them entered the dilapidated courtyard.
Soon, just when he thought nothing would happen, a loud scream came from the courtyard.
“Help!” Before she could finish, she was knocked unconscious by He Wanqing, who was covered in white cloth and had her feet off the ground.
Seeing the big black stone she pulled out from the abandoned stove, she smiled. Good, very good. It was worth her breaking the appointment and coming here.
She pulled out several stoves, took all the money inside, beat He Cao up, and finally dragged her into the cesspool behind the broken house before humming a tune and leaving.
Gu Cheng’an, who was guarding the door for her, saw her come out smiling and knew that He Cao had been beaten up again. Thinking about her recent proficiency in beating people, he looked at her with a smile in his eyes. If you looked closely, you could see the indulgence in his eyes.
As soon as they went out, they saw a pair of big white teeth in the moonlight. He Wanqing paused. She was about to sit down and prepare to attack, then she remembered what Gu Cheng’an had said and put down the wooden stick in her hand and walked towards him.
“Gu Cheng’an?”
“It’s me.” Gu Cheng’an’s eyes flickered as he looked at the wooden stick in her hand.
“When did you follow me?” He didn’t see her searching for money, did he?
“When you left.”
“You didn’t go in?”
“No.” After tracking her for a few days, he had a good understanding of her fighting ability. He felt that guarding the outside was the most important thing.
She looked at him, saw the sincerity in his eyes, and didn’t doubt him anymore. She turned and took him around to the other side, walking towards the foot of the mountain.
Along the way, Gu Cheng’an looked at her profile and thought for a moment before asking the question. “What about the marriage? Have you thought about it?”
When she heard this, she stopped and looked up at him. Seeing the panic on his face, He Wanqing, who already liked his face, smiled. It was like a spring breeze blowing into Gu Cheng’an’s heart. In the future, whenever he thought about this night, he wouldn’t remember anything else, only this gentle smile, making him careful and cautious every time he went on a mission.
“Did your marriage report get approved?” Her clear and melodious voice rang out on the quiet road, making Gu Cheng’an blush. He quickly lowered his head to look at her, and when he saw she hadn’t noticed, he breathed a sigh of relief.
“Yes, it’s done.” His low, hoarse voice rang out, making He Wanqing stunned. She didn’t expect the marriage report to be approved in just half a day. That was too fast!
Looking at her bright eyes, Gu Cheng’an pursed his lips and told her about applying for the report and his thoughts at the time.
