Even an Orange Cat Can Win Over a Sick and Deaf Handsome Man
Even an Orange Cat Can Win Over a Sick and Deaf Handsome Man | Chapter 11

Fei Mao Mao Is a Little Stove

After the golden light completely faded, Fei Yan slowly opened her eyes.

This time, she didn’t dare to move recklessly. She first lowered her head to check her fluffy legs.

Hmm, good. Still just the legs of a well-behaved little cat.

Then she carefully opened her mouth and let out a meow, as soft as a mosquito’s buzz.

Hmm, not bad. Still speaking cat.

So what was the use of this setting, exactly?

Fei Yan wrinkled her nose and looked around, but didn’t notice anything special.

In the end, it was Thirteen who couldn’t hold back and timely reminded her:

[The host can take a look at her left hand.]

Fei Yan raised her left paw at the prompt and was surprised to see a blue glowing dot on the soft pink paw pad. “What’s this?”

However, Thirteen didn’t respond again.

Fei Yan waited for a while but got no reply. Then she remembered what Thirteen had said before: “Before an attribute is used for the first time, the details cannot be revealed to the host. You must experience it yourself.” So she tentatively touched the glowing dot with her whiskers.

The next second, an interface appeared before her eyes that looked like an in-game storage menu. The interface was divided into three small slots, all currently empty.

Fei Yan tilted her little cat head, staring at the interface in confusion.

She absentmindedly lowered her paw and accidentally touched an abandoned medicine jar next to her. Instantly, a new window popped up on the screen.

[Would the host like to store the medicine jar in the space?]

Below the prompt were two options: “Confirm / Cancel.”

Fei Yan: “!”

Wait, wait, wait.

[This is your second attribute. You may store up to three items in the space,]

[Please note two things: First, time inside the space is frozen. Second, the total weight of stored items cannot exceed the space’s current capacity. As the system upgrades, the storage capacity will increase accordingly.]

Fei Yan instantly lit up. This setting had come at exactly the right moment.

She was just worrying about how to swap out the herbs in the medicine bag—this space was clearly the perfect solution. If she stored the herbs she needed inside now and made the switch after returning home, things would be much simpler.

She immediately reached out a paw toward a drawer of herbs. But before she could proceed further, she heard Chen Miansheng’s lazy voice call out.

“Little Orange?”

Fei Yan froze. She was about to pull her paw back when Chen Miansheng bent down and caught her paw in one hand.

With his eyes slightly lowered, he turned Fei Yan’s paw over a few times, inspecting it carefully.

Fei Yan’s tail went stiff. Could he see the blue dot? If so, wouldn’t she be completely exposed?

Panicking, she tried to pull her paw back. But she pulled too hard, and the claws she hadn’t had time to retract accidentally scratched a shallow line across Chen Miansheng’s palm.

He clearly hadn’t expected such a sharp reaction from the little orange cat. For a second, his expression turned blank from surprise.

A faint line of red appeared from the scratch. He raised an eyebrow lightly, snapped out of it, and used his thumb to wipe the blood away. Then he glanced at the wide-eyed cat and let out a silent chuckle before slowly hissing through his teeth:

“Hiss… that really hurts.”

Fei Yan hadn’t had time to look at Chen Miansheng’s expression. The moment she saw the scratch she’d left; she froze slightly. And when she heard his words, she became even more flustered.

Oh no, oh no! How could she have scratched Chen Miansheng?

She instantly reverted to her clumsy, silly self and hurriedly tried to nuzzle his clothes with her head in apology.

But Chen Miansheng calmly took a step back, letting her head bump into empty air.

The little orange cat froze, then looked up at him with wide, confused eyes as if to ask, “Why did you step back?”

Chen Miansheng let out a low chuckle and flicked her forehead lightly with his fingers, his eyes filled with amusement as he scolded her.

“You ungrateful little rascal.”

Fei Yan flicked her tail in protest; she was not an ungrateful rascal! But when she looked down at the scratch on his palm again, she admitted defeat and sheepishly leaned in to nuzzle him.

This time, Chen Miansheng didn’t dodge. He let the little orange cat rub against the hem of his robe to apologize. Then he gently pinched the back of her neck and asked:

“Is your paw bothering you?”

Fei Yan didn’t immediately understand what he meant.

Not until Chen Miansheng lifted her left paw again, touched her palm, and said, “You kept staring at this spot just now.”

Only then did Fei Yan realize that he couldn’t see the blue dot at all. He had only assumed her paw was uncomfortable and had come to check it out.

And yet she had misunderstood and scratched him in return.

Fei Yan immediately felt extremely guilty.

Chen Miansheng’s scolding… was well-deserved.

She shook her head and very obediently rubbed up against his robe again, as if to apologize.

Seeing that the little orange cat didn’t seem to be in pain, Chen Miansheng didn’t ask any more questions. He patted her fluffy head a couple of times, showed her that the scratch had already stopped bleeding, then got up and calmly went back to his reading.

Fei Yan didn’t waste any time either. She quickly located the three herbs she needed—Astragalus, Perilla Leaf, and Mustard Seed—from the cabinets. With a light tap of her paw on each one and a confirmation in the interface, the herbs were instantly stored in the space.

With everything done, she strutted over to Chen Miansheng, gave a push with her hind legs, and leapt into his lap, curling up in a comfortable position to sleep.

Mmm… being a cat was tiring.

After returning to the small courtyard, Chen Miansheng first opened a packet of medicinal herbs to prepare a decoction.

Fei Yan watched his every move. The moment he peeled open the mulberry paper, she dropped to the ground like she had planned it all along, flopping around and howling dramatically.

Although Chen Miansheng couldn’t hear the little orange cat’s tantrum-like cries, her exaggerated movements still caught his attention. He chuckled. “What’s the matter now?”

Fei Yan sprawled on her back with her snowy-white belly exposed, rubbing her paws over it and blinking her big round eyes at him.

Amused, Chen Miansheng looked at the little orange cat’s antics and asked uncertainly, “Hungry?”

The little orange cat quickly wagged her tail.

“Be good. I’ll make you something to eat after I finish decocting the medicine,” Chen Miansheng said as he turned to fetch the medicine pot. But before he could take a step, he felt something blocking his feet, making it impossible to move.

Looking down, he saw the little orange cat clinging tightly to his boot with both front paws, her watery eyes filled with grievance.

“You’re that hungry?” Chen Miansheng tilted his head. He hadn’t seen her act like this before, and his heart softened. “But you have to let go first. How else can I cook for you?”

Fei Yan understood his words right away and obediently released her grip, watching as Chen Miansheng disappeared behind the woodshed door.

Success! Plan complete.

Acting cute really was the most powerful move.

She had already thought it all through on the way back. Tearing open the medicine packet herself and swapping the herbs would definitely be suspicious.

Better to wait until Chen Miansheng opened it himself—then she could seize the moment to distract him. Swapping the herbs after that would be a piece of cake.

While Chen Miansheng was still occupied, Fei Yan jumped onto the desk, opened her space, and pulled out the three stolen herbs.

Afraid of raising suspicion, she deliberately used her paw to crush them slightly and mixed them as evenly as possible with the rest of the herbs.

After carefully handling all the details, Fei Yan casually hopped back to the ground and laid down in a comfortable position.

Then… her belly let out a loud growl

Honestly, she really was a little hungry.

Why was Chen Miansheng taking so long?

Speak of the devil—as if on cue, Chen Miansheng’s voice rang out: “Little Orange.”

Fei Yan perked up instantly and darted over to the door to greet him.

So, when Chen Miansheng walked into the room carrying the dinner, this was the scene he saw:

His little cat was sitting obediently in the middle of the doorway, looking up at him—well, at the bowl in his hands—with sparkling eyes and a tail wagging nonstop.

He had to admit, she really did look a bit like that yellow puppy raised by Butcher Wu.

Still, he remembered clearly how the little orange cat fluffed up angrily the last time someone compared her to a dog.

Suppressing a chuckle, Chen Miansheng didn’t say what he was thinking aloud.

He placed the bowl in front of the little orange cat. “Go ahead and eat.” Then he turned to retrieve the medicine packet.

Only after confirming he had taken the medicine did Fei Yan lower her guard and begin to eat heartily.

But just halfway through the meal, a violent coughing fit sounded from afar.

Fei Yan immediately looked up. Abandoning the rest of her food, she dashed out of the inner room and raced toward the woodshed. The moment she stepped inside, she saw Chen Miansheng bracing himself against the stove with one hand, coughing so hard his back had hunched over.

This time, the coughing was worse than ever. His face had gone pale, and the fits were so intense it sounded like his insides might come up with them.

Fei Yan panicked. Then, remembering something, she turned and ran back to the inner room. She clawed open Chen Miansheng’s wardrobe, fished out a fur-lined coat, bit one end of the collar, and dragged it all the way back to him.

Still unsatisfied, she spotted the now-cooled medicine bowl sitting on the stove and quickly leapt up to push it toward him.

Watching the little orange cat busying herself like that, Chen Miansheng—despite still coughing—let out a raspy laugh.

He lifted his free hand to rub her head. His fingertips were ice-cold, making the little orange cat shiver involuntarily.

Tch.

Why were his hands always so cold?

Fei Yan grit her teeth and simply jumped into his arms. Her fluffy tail curled tightly around the back of his hand, covering it completely.

The little orange cat was soft and warm, like a tiny heater in his arms. The part of his hand under her tail slowly began to warm.

Feeling the warmth, Chen Miansheng’s heart softened. After finally calming his cough, he tried to take his hand back to give the cat’s neck a gentle squeeze—only for her to impatiently wrap her tail around it again.

He chuckled, his voice gentle. “Little Orange, are you keeping me warm?”

Without lifting her head, the little orange cat stretched her limbs out as far as she could, trying to cover as much of him as possible.

Chen Miansheng’s expression softened. Through the propped-open window, he gazed into the distance, as if remembering something. A warm, faint smile tugged at the corners of his lips, lingering there for a long time.

Outside, snow continued to fall softly. The fire in the stove still crackled now and then.

Without the sound of his coughing, the courtyard fell into peaceful quiet. Fei Yan’s worry gradually faded, and drowsiness crept in.

She shifted slightly, resting her little head in the center of his broad palm, and drifted off to sleep.

She slept deeply and didn’t hear the faint mechanical chime that sounded in her mind.

[Affection level between host and designated target has increased. Congratulations, host. The setting “The Siren’s Three Sentences” has leveled up.]
